Lampard has a few big decisions to make with his regular first 11.

Left back and midfield.

I think Azpilicueta should be the regular LB. Emerson is decent, but I think that is all he has shown himself to be since he started playing more. I think Azpilicueta is a better LB than he is a RB and James can take that RB spot. Based on current form, it seems like an easy decision right now for Lampard.

Midfield is a lot harder though. I feel like he has to drop one of Jorginho, Kovacic or Kante, because Mount needs to be a regular starter. He presses better than any other player in our team, and when you have Jorginho and Kovacic as our link between midfield and defense, you need a player like that in the team. People will say that Kante has amazing defensive attributes so should be able to play Mount's role easily, but I don't see it that way. I don't think Kante is all that great at pressing, he's more of a player that just gets in your face and makes a tackle, Mount knows when to press and when to hold. Timing is everything. I also think Kante struggles a lot more with his defensive duties when he is playing further up the pitch, he is being asked to track back from further up the pitch and by the time he get's back, the damage is done. If you swap his position with Kovacic today, I don't think City would have had so many chances to run at our defense. For me, at this moment, Kovacic and Kante should be sharing their position. Jorginho's game is too important for us, so he has to keep his place. Kante and Kovacic should share a spot for now though.

It's going to become even more difficult for Lampard when Loftus-Cheek returns and gets back to his best.

He’s really showing that he is a top class manager. Despite losing to City last night, we had the most possession and looked pretty comfortable on the ball albeit a few mistakes. No manager have done that before at Etihad, we just need a few additions and I really can see Lampard turning us into world beaters

While I do think we were alright the possession stat doesn't mean a thing. About half of our possession was Zouma and Tomori passing it to each other, Pep was very happy to just let that happen.

Once Jorginho went off our build up was completely gone. He's looking like our most important player at the moment.

I think Rudiger adds more to our back line when it comes to picking forward passes. Unfortunately he seems to be blighted with injuries. We don't have other choices.

By the way, was watching sunday supplement a little bit this morning and one of the journos again brought up the narrative about would the club have picked Lampard if it wasn't for the transfer ban.

I am curious if this is true or not. I wonder whether the club were looking at bringing Frank in regardless. I guess the situation with Sarri helped as he maybe wanted to leave.

With you on this, Kante scores goals though. Some would say it’s a good problem to have but someone is gonna get upset.

I don’t think they would have to be honest, they’d probably have gone for a more experienced manager like Allegri who was free at the time or try to get Erik ten Hag after his good work with a young Ajax team.

At both us so far and Derby he’s bottled nearly every big game....

Just unlucky yesterday against a very decent opponent. No way has he "bottled it". If we had a couple of better finishes and players hadn't given the ball away in dangerous areas the outcome would have been different.

The job Lamps and Jody have done up to now with the squad they have is nothing short of miraculous. This is still very much in its infancy and a work in progress. I love the idea that rather than have a team with 1 or 2 academy players on the fringes we now have a side where the spine of the team is academy players / youngsters. Like the young Utd Fergie side in the 1990's we just need a few quality additions of real world class to put the icing on the cake. We need the equivalent of a Schmichel, Cantona, Stam, Keane, Sheringham when we have the chance to enter the market again to blend with the young talent and make us unstoppable.

Pretty certain he beat United at Old Trafford with Derby but ok...

Yep, and using the word "bottled" is just stupid. From what I have seen, Lampard has done anything but bottle things as a manager so far.

This big game thing is blown out of proportion. Yes, on paper it looks bad, but we played United at a time where we would've probably lost to Leeds given how bad our defending was and it was full of youngsters who've not played together, we were crawling with injuries.

We played a really good side in Liverpool who are currently undefeated, lost twice but gave them really good games. Lost a cup game against United where we played kids, they played their first team besides Lingard and a GK, we had three 18-year olds on the pitch. And we just lost a competitive game against, AGAIN a really good side in City away.

I guarantee if we had played Spurs or Arsenal we would've beaten them, home or away. We've just been unfortunate with the fixtures, playing Old Trafford away on the first game of the season with a squad such as ours was very unlucky.
