Anyone know what Tuchel is like with playing youth?

Dembele, Weigl & Issak were brought under him at Dortmund. He also played a couple of youth players at PSG. I don’t think there will be a problem playing them under him. We might even see him promote a few more to fill  holes in the squad.

Who knows what has happened behind the scenes so it is too early to jump to conclusions. Time will reveal if he lost the dressing room or whatever is the reason.

I have never felt this disappointed because of a manager sacking. Not even when Jose got sacked.

What Frank had started was a work in progress, he was building a team for the future and I still think we were going the right way despite this current form. What he achieved last season was incredible, and I am pretty sure we would have reached the top 4 by the end of this season with him in charge. Anything else was an unrealistic expectation.

Hoping for an interim manager until May, then we'll see what happens...

Tuchel has lasted 2 years at Dortmund and PSG. I give him 1 year here.

End of season is easily enough time to get us to the top of the league competing with all these world class players wev'e just bought..

Really sad news but can’t say it wasn’t coming.

All the best to the legend that is super Frank for his future. Here’s to seeing the best from the players we have.

Maybe Frank knew from the start he is probably here on project basis and he knew this could come to an end pretty quick. We don't know what is spoken behind closed doors. Sad news naturally but expected.

I just checked Dortmund's managerial situation and after Klopp it has been even more of a rotating door that ours. Maybe this is the new normal.

You always hear people talking about Wenger, SAF and other long terms managers being the absolute idea of football managing. Maybe we should think about this in another way.

It is the new normal though in European football. Bayern, Dortmund, Juve are quick to change managers if things aren’t working. As long as we have a template, we will be fine.

Nothing against Lamps, and wish him the best.

Very sad day for the club. Never easy to part ways with a club legend in these circumstances.

Despite our recent form slump, I think the club is in better shape going forward than when Frank first became head coach.

The positives of Frank's coaching tenure:

  • Several academy players made big strides under him (e.g. Mount, Abraham, James, CHO, Gilmour).
  • Helped navigate the club through a tough period after losing Hazard and having a transfer embargo which handicapped it's ability to rebuild quickly.
  • Finished top 4 last year despite having a transfer embargo, and made the FA Cup Final. A real shame we couldn't prevail in the final.
  • The quality of the playing squad has improved, and set the foundations for his successor to move it forward in the right direction. It's a shame that he couldn't get them firing recently.

Absolutely adore Frank. One of my favourite Chelsea figures and his legacy at the club will never be diminished.

I really hope that Frank continues gaining more experience in the managerial craft and this experience doesn't deter him. I think he has all the hallmarks to be a great manager, and with more experience and wisdom down the line, I wouldn't be shocked to see him come back one day even if it's raw right now.

Thank you for everything, legend! Gone, but never forgotten!

Very mixed feelings about this...

First of all, I thought we got rid of all the cancerous players to the club? The likes of Willian and Luiz andd some others who would turn the dressing room against the manager and do underhanded sh*t like that? Who else is currently still at the club that has that sort of influence in the dressing room?

Secondly, this is a very odd time to announce a sacking.. I could understand if it was after the bad loss against City, or the loss against Leicester. At least the way the new manager has time to come in, get an easy game against Luton and have some time to prepare for the Wolves game. But sacking him now, just giving the new manager a day or 2 with the squad in a must win game against a fairly tough team? Pretty stupid.

Thirdly, I do feel bad for Lampard as he has tried his best, but there were clearly some glaring faults with his management style. The fact we still have no real style of play apart from going wide and crossing is not good enough imo. Also seems like he knew he was on his way out, so just wanted to give Mount the captain's armband before he left.. Typical!
I mean no offense to Mount, but he just isn't captain material.

On the whole, I think it was the right thing to do, but the way it was handled wasn't good, and the timing was pretty awful. Im sure Lampard does have a future in being a a manager, but this job was definitely far too soon for him. I get that its hard to turn down his dream job, andd nobody can blame him for taking the job too early, but unfortunately thats just how things are sometimes.

Im betting we do rehire Lampard at some point in the future, but it will be at least 5 years away. He needs to get much more experience first, but its hard to imagine where he will go from here... Id imagine it'll be back to the championship

I have nothing against him, and wish him well if he becomes our new coach but this concerns me.

Surely the club is aware of his history and his fieriness at previous clubs.

Anything but top four and a trophy is an utter and complete failure now. We sack the manager because we demand immediate success then we must have immediate success.

It's embarrassing for whoever recruits the players that we have spent £280M on midfielders and still don't have a decently performing DM or AM ... Frank asking repeatedly for Rice just emphasises the magnitude of that embarrassment ...

Jorginho £51M, Kovacic £40M, Havertz £72M, Kante £32M, Drinkwater £34M, Bakayoko £36M, Barkley £15M  ...

Then factor in the large fees for Kepa and Werner, neither of whom seem to have many of the basics of football let alone the advanced stuff ... far easier to blame the coach than the players and whoever signed them ...

I thought he’d be given a few more games tbh, and said so after Leicester. Wrong. Such is Roman’s MO, and there’s not much i or anyone can do about it. As I’ve said before, it’s insanely hard to succeed in football management, requiring an incredible commitment and a very broad skill set. If I’m honest, Lampard probably doesn’t quite fulfil enough of the criteria (the man management id suspected may be an issue) but I’ve always been willing to give him time to prove me wrong. Alas the owner is less patient than me and many others. We have to accept it, no use crying over spilt milk etc. Would advise keeping an open mind and not going straight to the doom scenarios re Gilmour and other academy players. They may well have a role to play.

Feel sick about this. Massive gulf between true fans and the board. Frank needed to have been given 3 years.

Massive gulf between the true fans and the bitch-whining toxic trolls on twatter and in here who displayed no loyalty, no integrity and no character, with their disgusting knee-jerk self-entitlement and their playstation football knowledge.

Those people, and you know who you are, disgust me and all true Chelsea fans,

Fully agree with your bulletpoints, if/when we challenge again Lampard will have more than played his part.

It hurts, and it is always tough to separate sentiment from these things. From the club's perspective, they are running a business and will no doubt be looking at protecting their investments. 70mill kepa dropped. 75mill Kai dropped. 60 mill jorgi dropped. 35mill Werner dropped. Kova a bit part player. Alonso banished. Not saying that any or all of these decisions are correct or incorrect, but as a business, they will be looking at the amount of money tied up in those investments and be sh*tting a brick at how lamps handled those players.

I expected this at the end of the season not now so WOW!!!

I did say Roman doesnt do sentiment and billionares have EGOs.

And lets be honest we all expected it to end badly it always does the next manager 2 years tops and we start again THIS IS THE CHELSEA WAY.

Chlease is a business and it will continue to run that way. Chelsea do not do Sentiment when it comes to results

Wasn't it Klopp that brought Pulisic through?

Klopp brought him to the club but he broke into the first team under Tuchel.

A lot of the negative statements being touted by the Athletic, people need to realize that a lot of the statements are coming from insiders who want Lampard gone so are not exactly going to be giving a glowing review.

For example only talking to people he likes, the guy has always backed Kepa despite his absolutely atrocious form for the full Lampard tenure. Lampad made mistakes but I don't for 1 minute believe he would deliberately ostracize players and damage squad relations without good reason.

I struggle to recall a time when a manager was sacked having come off a victory.

That in itself makes the timing unusual.

Frank’s been sacked after winning three of the last four games.

Wholeheartedly agree.

But the more I think of it, I feel like Lamps was always being setup here. He was brought in to drastically change the squad and the way we operate. The fact he got rid of so many unnecessary players and implemented youth properly into our squad, I think these changes will be massive in the future.

He has spent a lot in bringing in quality to the team (and I still believe all the players he signed still have great potential) and the fact we have quality youth players coming through constantly, I think we have the basis of a good squad for several years to come.

And once these changes were implemented by Lampard, he was always going to get sacked for a more experienced manager in my eyes.

I just hope one day he comes back to the club as manager, a much more experienced and seasoned coach who can take us to trophies, but as I said before his time right now was just too soon
