Right, the academy 'project' went out the window at the first sign of trouble, and just as our form seems to have started to turn around. I think the names you mentioned could be alright since they're already established, but up-and-comers such as Gilmour and Anjorin might struggle.

I dont think Abraham will play much now, the new manager will go for tried and tested. Mount may have a chance but I cant see James playing either as defensively he has made mistakes lately. As you say the other ones wont get much time now, maybe a run out in a cup with a load of other academy players which wont dont them any good at all.

For whatever reason, it's just not in the club's DNA to have a long-term coach and this won't change under Abramovich.

The last time we had a coach who lasted 4+ years in the job was John Neal in the mid-1980s, and Dave Sexton (1967-1974) was the last coach to last 5+ years in the job.

There was a time where I've lost my cool with some of the board's decisions over the years, but I guess I've come to accept that this is the way we operate and my views as a supporter won't change what the board wants to do.

When I've seen events like today happen in previous years, you grow desensitized to the whole process.

It's not a good way of running the club and we're rightly criticized for conducting ourselves in a hollow manner. It's even worse when this happens at the expense of a club legend.

while it is true that a single fan has no power to change anything, it is completely fine to stop purchasing any merchandise, or going to games

I didnt buy anything from the club when they sack Mourinho in the second spell, it wont change much, but I still decide to do it

Can i ask someone who wanted Frank out who do you suggest we get next ? Semms more than a few wanted Frank gone but never put their balls on the chopping board and suggest any names, preferring the comfort of their fence.

Personally,

Nagelsman or Rodgers I would have been happy with. I'd have been happy with Benitez, Schevchenko as an interim until the summer.

I'm on the fence about Tuchel because I just don't know enough about him.

Abraham is tried and tested. So is Mount. So is James. A new manager will 100% play them.

Lampard stopped trusting youth this season. Billy was behind Jorginho in his pecking order. Anjorin never gets a look in. Billy was the only youth player getting games in the cup!

Lampard did a great job getting the 3 players into the team, which I will be grateful for, no manager is going to undo that.

Chelsea’s timing is always slightly odd. Can’t argue the bigger picture and lack of progress and player integration. On the back of 3/4 wins though - had things turned?

Here we go again! Best wishes Frank - just like your playing days, you were nothing but the consummate professional. Legend.

Do people really think this hire and fire strategy is still working? We've not been near the league or CL for 4/5 years. I'd much rather Lampard had overseen a project. Then again, maybe the board's idea was hire Lampard for short term.

Maybe some people were right about the club only hiring Lampard due to not having a transfer window. I really don't know. Just fed up with the hire and fire strategy. It hasn't worked for a while.

On top of that our recruitment has been sub par, apart from a small handful of players since Hazard. How much money has been wasted on average players like bakayoko, drinkwater, emerson, alonso, luiz, morata, batshuayi, zappacosta etc.

We`ll see. Billy was ahead of Jorginho last season before injury, Billy is now back ahead of him.

Very sad day for the club. Never easy to part ways with a club legend in these circumstances.

Despite our recent form slump, I think the club is in better shape going forward than when Frank first became head coach.

The positives of Frank's coaching tenure:

  • Several academy players made big strides under him (e.g. Mount, Abraham, James, CHO, Gilmour).
  • Helped navigate the club through a tough period after losing Hazard and having a transfer embargo which handicapped it's ability to rebuild quickly.
  • Finished top 4 last year despite having a transfer embargo, and made the FA Cup Final. A real shame we couldn't prevail in the final.
  • The quality of the playing squad has improved, and set the foundations for his successor to move it forward in the right direction. It's a shame that he couldn't get them firing recently.

Absolutely adore Frank. One of my favourite Chelsea figures and his legacy at the club will never be diminished.

I really hope that Frank continues gaining more experience in the managerial craft and this experience doesn't deter him. I think he has all the hallmarks to be a great manager, and with more experience and wisdom down the line, I wouldn't be shocked to see him come back one day even if it's raw right now.

Thank you for everything, legend! Gone, but never forgotten!

Frank will be alright. He will forever be Super Franky Lampard.

He's had an amazing career with us and nothing will change that. I am gutted, but this appointment, as romantic as it was, was high stakes roulette and it hasn't worked out. Only this time the house doesn't win really.

Nothing should surprise us at Chelsea. Onwards and upwards.

I don't think Lampard stopped trusting the youth this season, Billy was coming back from a serious injury and therefore Frank was trying to slowly reintegrate him into the squad.

Tammy was ahead of Giroud in the pecking order until Giroud put 4 past Sevilla and James had dislodged Azpi as the starting right back, in my view CHO would've moved ahead of Pulisic had Lampard been given a few more games.

They may not have been his choice but when offered he may of agreed they were a good signing, then went and talked to them. Are you being purposefully obtuse.

I am being realistic in saying if the only player Frank wanted and got was Chillwell then that would say a lot about how much the board trust him and this was doomed project before it started.

I cant see Chillwell being the only one he requested that got signed,

No, you're glory hunting because you jump on a mid-season slump and being 5 points off of a top four position as "going down the toilet".  You, and the f**king board, need to get a grip.

I haven't started saying Frank was the wrong one only 5 weeks ago but from day nunero uno. In that sense, the board are a lot better than me.

It's not hard to resolve and I have offered this to you and others that like to criticise the board several times.

Scrape your millions and get in there. Until then, you look after your heart interests whilst they look after their business interests.

I said I'm not a Tuchel advocate, but I would have him over Lampard definitely, as I would many other managers who offer more experience and a better CV.

I've already declared my position on this many times, I said, get an interim and in the summer go for a top manager like Zidane or Simeone and give them the resources to build a team and get them going. Both have great accomplishments to their name.

Come on then negative Nancy, who's your choice for new manager,????? you couldn't wait to get rid of Frank, so at least tell us who you want to replace him with.

Ok for the record you back Tuchel.

Did not see it coming to be fair, I thought the board would pull the trigger after the Leicester game, but seeing they did not, I genuinely thought Lamps would be given the full season.

I'm not from England, but Lamps, JT, Drogba were the core of the club I fell in love with more than 15 years ago, seeing a Chelsea through and through get sacked today was a truly sad moment for me.

I wanted Lamps to be a hit here, but the decision today we all kind of saw it coming for some time, although we did not want this to happen. It's been more than a month since we've been looking very poor by our standards and only God knows what happened after that long unbeaten run where we lost against an Everton team that never should have lost against given they were missing many first team players and were poor overall and then we lost v Wolves from a winning position. That is when everything got broken and the cherry on the cake was the Arsenal match where, as much as I love Lampard, I was truly disgusted by the attitude and the lack of hunger and tactics.

I wanted Lamps to succeed here, but the atmosphere lately was simply toxic, Jose Mk II vibes, lots of things must have happened behind the scenes for the past weeks. I did not want him to be sacked, but somehow it was bound to happen sooner rather than later.

Good luck Frank, always a Chelsea legend!

dont understand why we dont go for Allegri

can we stop this possession based attacking football nonsense? It is so boring and it is a failure, stop it

with Werner, Pulisic, Odoi and Havertz our front liner is so deadly playing counter attack football...look at United

Excellent post. Frank may one day be a great manager, but he isn’t now. Think if you are going to sack manager better to do it early and Tuchel is about as good as can hope for mid season.
Journos only a week ago were writing how Frank had time. What can you say.

Wouldve preferred Ten Haag, or Nagelsmann, but Tuchel could be interesting. I think one of Tuchel's biggest problems at psg, was trying to get ego's like Neymar to buy into his work ethic, I remember the Liverpool game last season, when they all worked hard, Mbappe and Neymar included, and they won the game pretty comfortably. So he definitely has some coaching pedigree. Just hope we dont see another conte situation with the board.

When I saw the news, my heart sunk. Regardless of where we are or trophies won, Lampard will always be a successful manager in my eyes.

Tammy, James and Mount and to a lesser extent Tomori, CHO and Gilmour were all integrated into the first team. Yes, we had a transfer ban but I couldn't think of a better role model and club figure than Lampard to do it.

I think Frank handing the captaincy to Mount yesterday was a beautiful and poetic thing. I don't believe we will give up on these young players because they've saved us many a time when the supposedly mature players didn't
