Perhaps you have misunderstood the meaning of the word "gritty"

And as for "Lamps with a silver spoon in his mouth." I think you are just taking the piss, or don't understand what that phrase means either.  Lampard was born in f**king Romford, FFS.

And " onlookers who want a hero, " is bollocks.

"onlookers", or fans, as we call them, want good or great players, regardless of how societal norms or twitter twats perceive them.

Gaelic football at that age is just running around, with none of the fun, games and delicate interactions of the adult version

Seems to be a problem here (uk) than other places, something in the water, whether that’s press or just the culture. Non-Chelsea people don’t want to praise him, anyone who comes across as schoolboy, or teachers pet or had a good upbringing gets snubbed. I think that whole forum/online discussion thing of people who take single words out of posts and magnify them seems to be one of those things, would look so ridiculous in a real life conversation between people.

No, I think if you said the same thing down the pub, I'd still think it was a stupid thing to say and that you really didn't have any true understanding of what you were on about.

But then we're all entitled to an opinion, so you carry on with yours 🙂

Anywayyy....

Hopefully the agenda from the non-Chelsea lot does die down in time for the Euro’s and we’ll see less of the teachers pet stuff, maybe Mount can crash a Range Rover or something to appeal to those twats. Frank did nothing wrong but is still hated by many because he is perceived to be middle class in a working class sport.

I think they 'hate' has definitely died down since Tuchel took over, and Mount has proven himself all over again. Still does a few frustrating things going forward, but he is getting better and better. He has outshone pretty much every other top european takent he has come up against this season, I think the future is bright, and he will be even more of a fan favourite when he has contributed to inevitable trophies. Then it will just be the odd nutter on twitter that wants to criticize him every 5 mins. Cant get rid of them unfortunately.

I think you are very very wrong on that if you look at social media. There's a very weird hatred of him from mostly African and American fans for some reason, the majority of UK based fans seem to see him for what he is, a very very good young English player who has made the huge step up from our academy to play a very important role in our first team, even possibly being our best player overall.

Not seen much of that myself, although aside from this forum I mainly gravitate towards more neutral venues and voices online, I see the debates on Maddison, Grealish & Foden, Mount is always bottom or discredited. At the moment, Mount is most famous for being a teachers pet and people are still furious Southgate mentioned his name when asked about Brumy hero Grealish. There is thankfully now a bit more respect going his way but it’s a long way before he will be fully accepted.

I don't really read any Twitter sh!te about football, but I get the impression the media tide has turned in his favour, especially given the form he has shown under TT.

I personally don't think its a social class thing or anything of that sort that he is underrated in the world of social media, it's simply a case of Mount not being a flashy player. The lad is an honest hardworking footballer who values footballing efficiency over unnecessary stepovers, failed nutmegs and blinding haircuts.

He would be considered world class if he changed his hairstyle on a weekly basis & completed a no look pass once in a while.

The American ones might be thinking he is keeping Pulisic out though not sure on the African ones as CHO plays for England and can't think of any Africans he is keeping out of the side.

You disagree with dkw being clueless to uk perception then based on this post which is right, as for ‘whatever the reason is’.... social class/not being flash enough/ etc etc, he’s not had the same plaudits as the aforementioned. Only now is it seeping in as mentioned but I feel there is still something about him not resonating with people and for all the wrong reasons of course. In the end it doesn’t matter it’s just a peeve of mine when in-house appreciation doesn’t quite filter out as it should, so tired of the twitter/ social media accounts (yes I know.. shouldn’t read them but still) with the whole agenda against him for England especially.

Spot On re the Americans. Many were inconsolable in Lamps first season if Lamps selected Mount and left Pulicic out. The bile and hatred on social media when their all American boy didn't start games was pityful.

Not sure on the Africans though. Perhaps they're blaming Mount for Mikel not being re-signed?!!

What?  Do you mean to say that there are two Romford Pele’s?

Don’t insult Frank by comparing him to that fraud who’s career only exists in his head.

Look at Messi breaking one of his ‘records’, next day he’s gone out and found some more goals down the back of the sofa!

Another good game for England topped off with a goal. ITV panel of Roy Keane,  Ashley Cole and Ian Wright say he is the all rounder midfielder and a starter for the Euros.

Does make me wonder how people didn’t see the potential or even now with the results he’s achieving.

Well I heard one club manager saying that any decent top club side could win the world cup sonot  sure how far we can judge.

I thought Mount did well, involved in the build up to the first and took the second very well.

It is because most people expect am to be technical/esthetically pleasing or they produce number.

Anything beyond that doesn't count. The fact that Mount press hard, fill space very2 well, help build up, etc mean nothing. Right now mount is producing number but the moment Mount stop producing, everyone will start complaining again.

Cemented himself as a starter for England in last night’s game I thought. Southgate is no fool, he can see that Mount is undroppable from the squad now. Happy for him.

Yup, Mount is one of those versatile player that is easy to put into the team. He does not have to play specific role to be effective which is a dream for any manager, you can design your team based on your undroppable player (sterling, kane) then play Mount in a role depending on your player selection and your opp.

So the Midfield Azpiliqueta?

Watched the first half of England against San Marino (yes, yes, it's only San Marino). Mount was absolutely incredible and linked up so well with Sterling. Describing him as versatile does him a disservice... he's a very very talented footballer with so much energy who has a really high ceiling!

Same Azpi who has won it all with us while playing everything from LB to RB to CB to even wing back at times?  Whom Mourinho famously said could he win the CL with 11 Dave's?

Yes the same Azpi. You can still be a good player even if you are limited player. Azpi is a very good defender, good passer for a cb  and more importantly azpi gave 110% every game and the most professional player in the club (this why why Mou said his famous quote and he is our Captain)
