Mason Mount

Should we be worried that he won't be match fit for Wednesday? Hope he's not injured.

I think he'll be fine and worst case scenario we go with Pulisic, Timo and Kai. Mount's energy and ability would be missed but I think we could get by as long as it means he wouldn't risk making it worse by rushing back. I do expect him to be fit though, most likely just a little knock.

Speaking of Mason, what a pleasure it is to have a player like that play for your team. I coach an under 15s team and I would love to have a player like Mason Mount in my squad.

Just adds so much to the team, he really is top quality. Think I'll pick up his shirt next season.

Remember when he was overrated, inferior to Barkley and only playing because he was sucking off Lampard and Southgate?

Good times!

Ohh Gawdd... really did some one say that? Mount and Ross aren’t even in the same league

Ye you only have to go back to before 2021 on this thread to see half the fans calling for his head. Im just glad everyone is finally realising he is completely undropable.

Wait I thought Mount is overrated, Lampard son who doesn't score enough, doesn't create and he should play midfielder so we can just use his workrate to cover for our star attacker.

It was laughable at times on here, the American and Africa "fans" on particular really took a dislike to him, both on here and social media. Bunch of f**king morons.

In my opinion he is now the most important player in the team.

He's a joy to watch.

Always been a terrific player since Lampard to his massive credit game Mount his shot last season. But he's stepped it up even further under Tuchel and he's developing at a fantastic rate right now.

Should be our next captain.

Mount is very special.

I hear a certain argument quite a lot on this forum, something along the lines of: "Oh, Chelsea fans don't appreciate (INSERT NAME OF TAMMY, REECE, CHO) because he came through the youth team. I bet if he was a £50m (INSERT OTHER NATIONALITY) all of this forum would be crying out for us to sign him"

But basically, pretty much to the the man/women, we all adore Mason. That is because he is a truly special player, works his socks off, never gives up and is proper Chels.

Perhaps if those other players worked as hard and delivered as often as Mason, they would all be getting the same opportunities and would be less divisive.

A key player for Chelsea, and England, for years to come.

Just because Mason is operating at elite levels it doesn't mean that unless the other academy levels are at a similar level they shouldn't get an opportunity.

In my view all the academy grads who have become regulars in our squad this season are good enough to be part of a title winning squad. I would much rather the club give the time and development opportunity to our lads then bring in the likes of Batshuayi, Zapacosta, Drinkwater and Bakayako.

I don't disagree.

Agreed on the social media and forum part, but to be honest every Chelsea fan I spoke to in America (I live in the midwestern U.S.) had good things to say about him last season. It’s all anecdotal, I suppose.

Worth remembering guys and gals that there where several people who did not rate Mason. So let's remember that when James is getting stick, Gilmour got some on Saturday too. In general our youth are given a hard time early, more so than new signings imo.

We need to show patience just like the managers have and then Gems like Mason will appear.

JT was not great right away either.

I don't think the critism on Gilmour is down to him being wrote off I think it's more down to the fact there's debate on whether he should be playing right now so when his performances are being criticised it's in that context not because people think he's a write off long term.

Funny you mention JT cause at the same age Billy is now he made 9 appearances for us (all be it with a further 6 at Forest on loan), the latter is currently also on 9, certainly puts the notion we're wasting him into perspective.

A matter of patience both ways there.

I agree with you, but no one is saying Gilmour should be playing ahead of the three midfielders, but definitely ahead of Emerson in midfield and getting game time against the likes of Fulham, WBA, ... whether as a starter or as a sub.

If he's this good at 22, what's he going to be like in another few years?

Hopefully healthy because unfortunately Tuchel and Southgate work him like a slave. He is that one player that is never given a rest or asks for one because he recovers quickly for matches and has an amazing work rate.  I remember Kante being used like this by us and France and now he is showing to be human after all

I have worried about that since last season, I hope Mount doesn't burn out from playing so many games at 21,22...

Lampard was the same at his age. If you recover well and you can continue to play at high intensity why restrict the minutes? Some players have better physiology.

Thats exactly the same mentality that got Kante in the physical condition he is in. Coaches always felt like he was super human until the overloads of matches caught up. It doesnt help that both players play at 110% every game.  Lets not forget that at that same age Lampard wasnt a regular starter for England. Mount will definitely play every minute for England at the Euros if he can walk. I just feel like pretty soon we will be saying f**k Southgate the same way we blame Deschamps for Kante.

For someone playing in deep midfield, I think Tuchel has efficiently used him. Could he have played in more games? Maybe but we shouldn't be rushing kids into getting as much games under their belt.

Messi was the only player I've seen at his early 20's to really explode and maintain his level and even then he was constantly surrounded by world class players
