Mason Mount

Featured Replies

Needless to say but he's been at a completely different level since being moved back. Now he looks like he could go on to be genuinly world-class.
Feel we get even more out of his pressing and workrate when he's in midfield as well. It's like having two Kante's in there for the opposition to worry about.

Been our best player over course of the season so far.

Immense talent already and he can get better too.

That he is outperforming players like Jorginho and Kovacic who are extremely experienced players at the highest level is testament to just how good Mount has been for Chelsea.

I’d argue Mendy but I wouldn’t disagree with Mount. I was fuming early in the season when Mount was being played LW and receiving criticism continuously. It wasn’t his fault he was shunted to accommodate others. Since being played central, he’s been outstanding.

It’s actually difficult to see when Havertz fits into the team now and Kante, Kovacic and Mount should be the 3 starters in midfield and the front 3 will be Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech.

Mendy, best player so far ?? Maybe, but I think we were all so traumatised by the Kepa experience that anyone who played in goal and did at least the basics of what you would expect a goalkeeper to do was such a relief, that it’s possible to get carried away ? That said, Mendy has definitely done that and more and will surely be a star for us this season and for many seasons to come.

Mount playing on the wing, whether we agree or not, was obviously the decision of FL and for reasons best known to him - for all we know Mount may have hated playing wide? but it should be noted that Mount never did anything but his best and as far as I could tell he never spat the dummy or got attitude and he always always gave 100%.

You’re absolutely correct, since playing centrally he has been outstanding and that coupled with his willingness to play anywhere for this team, it’s not difficult to understand why Frank thinks so highly of him.

Agree with your last sentence too, although I expect Havertz to give Frank a selection headache as the season progresses - good problem to have we hope !!

He hasn't been our best.

He's been one of our best since the Burnley game though, as have numerous others. He really suits playing deeper as compared to playing on the wing. Early in the season I would say he was below average, not his fault though, that was mostly because he was pushed outwide.

When he gets back into shape Havertz walks right into the team, he's one of our best players.

Havertz played 1 game less than Mount in the league but has the same amount of goals and assists, in CL he also has 1 game less than Mount but both have 1 assist each, and that's Kai without having a pre-season and just jumping into a new team, new country and so on. Make no mistake, Havertz is one of the best talents in the world, him and Mount will destroy teams together.

My personal opinion is that he's been at worst decent but often great so far this season.

He's only missed one game so far so although some players such as Ziyech have had better individual games, Mount being an almost ever present elevates to being our best performer to date through the number of games he's played well in.

Considering his age he's so reliable.

I'm a massive fan of Mount. Of the current squad he's probably one of maybe 5 players I'd pick every game.

If Frank gets Mason working on finishing, he will be the complete midfielder. His workrate has massively increased since he first broke through.

He gets into great positions too, similar to where Lampard often found himself, however he’s not anywhere near as clinical. I’d love this to come. He could end up my favourite player, which in amongst the talent he is surrounded by, is remarkable.

It's no surprise Mount is such a good player in the 8 role considering he's been playing that position since he enrolled into the academy.

That's at least 12 years of experience

Best player in the last 2 games by a wide margin. Does it all, just a bit unlucky with his timing and decision making at times.

He's actually one of the most unlucky players I have seen. So many incredible shots have brought out world class saves or have hit the post. I remember Mata used to continuously hit the post with free kicks.

I have to give credit where it's due. I wasn't bis biggest fan and thought that in the long term he wouldn't be more than a squad player for us. I also thought that he wouldn't be too well suited to the number 8 position and would be better of as a 10, but at the moment he is playing brilliantly. It's the best I've seen him play and if he continues to improve there might be a world class midfielder in there.

I hope he continues proving me wrong!

I must admit Mason is proving me wrong, he's stringing together some very good games and one more player giving Frank a serious selection headache. Since he's still so young I fear he will drop off a bit later in the season if he doesn't get rested enough (though nobody could blame Frank for that last season).

I’d love it if he got player of the season after the unwarranted sh*t he got from a certain section of our ‘fan’ base!

Agreed. Plus the England fans.

In comparison Frank Lampard scored 7 and assisted 2 in his first season for Chelsea at 23 in the year 2001-2002. Mount will surpass those numbers at 23 if he indeed is becoming a goal scoring midfielder.

Can't think of any Central Midfielder in the league who is playing better then him at the minute, contributing defensively and posing a genuine threat up top.

Fernandes & Grealish come to mind but they both have much more freedom in their respective roles, Hojberg is too defensive and does not contribute from an attacking front. Ndombele is probably one who comes close, unbelievable player considering his age.
