Kai Havertz

Yep. You'll find posts of mine this time last season saying I wouldn't want to lose him because there is talent in him and I am afraid another top club will take advantage of it, but there are clear characteristic traits he is lacking. He can perform much better every week, but he doesn't want to. He never feels any urgency to make something happen, be it the first minute or the 90th. We will never find the best position for him because no such position exists for a footballer with so little drive.

We can be 2-0 down, desperate for a goal, and Havertz will still try and score a goal like he has already scored a hattrick for a team that are 5-0 up. It's not even a case of being clinical with Havertz, he just doesn't have the sense of urgency to his game that we need from him.

There are a few like that in our squad, Ziyech being another and even James to certain extent, but nothing like Havertz.

If he does stay and Pochettino sorts him out, then I may buy into the talk about Pochettino being a quality coach who can get the best out of players.

The thing is I'm already convinced that players like Pulisic and Havertz, they might very well have good careers elsewhere, but I'm still very much convinced they won't have one here. It's time they all moved on.

I think him winning the CL for us may still be slightly clouding my judgement regarding Kai but I am happy to keep him and I believe part of the reason Pochettino seems to be too is that at the very least he works hard with his pressing.

There's definitely still time for him to turn it around but it has to be next season.

He used to work hard. This season he didn`t. Compare the way Havertz pressed in the CL winning campaign to the way he played in the PL last season.

He worked hard under Tuchel, which explains why he kept getting picked but yes as the season progressed he and everyone else more or less gave up.

Playing as a 9 at Madrid? Maybe Carlo knows a lot better about Havertz than our last 3-4 managers.

I suspect it's highly unlikely, just more gossip. But Carlo doesn't play a traditional 9, not even with Benzema. Benzema, Vincius and Rodrygo all circulate, creating space for each other, setting each other up.

I would think very carefully about selling Kai, say what you want about the lad in terms of consistency but he does love the club. Scored one of the most important goals in the history of the club and is still at the age where he can kick on and really cement himself as a top class footballer.

Kai actually looks like a Pochettino type of player, all he needs is regular work on his finishing because he has all the other attributes in his locker to play AM. Maybe Pochettino could have reinvented him as something else idk but I could have envisioned a scenario where Nkunku, Kai, Sterling and a world class number 9 formed a strong attacking front 4 in a 4231.

Unless it's a good offer I'd rather he stay and challenge Nkunku for the spot behind the striker. Pochettino could use him in a similar role to Dele. Also, other than Sterling, we're already short of experience up top (assuming Pulisic and Ziyech leave).

What is a good offer though? He has 2yrs left and has a book value of £30m, I would say anything over £40m+ is a good deal. There are more productive options you could buy on the market with that money, who will add more creativity to the side. Eze, Maddison, Szoboszlai, Spertsyan & Enzo Le Fee are more creative options.

Not convinced. All he brings to the table is good movement, you need more than that to be able to play as an AM in the PL. Compare him with a De Bruyne, Oodegaard, Maddison, Fernandez, even Eze and his lacks the tools to thrive in that position. He also has 2yrs left on a £150k/w contract, this is summer to get a max fee. If his average form continues, we will be lucky to get £20m next summer. That or he will be demanding a £200k/w+ contract also, which he isn’t.

I am reading elsewhere that Pochettino wants us to go after Valverde, although it is probably another puff piece rubbish story.

If Havertz went to Real to soften the blow of the overall cost and we got Valverde out of it, i'd be well happy with that, tbh.

I will be sorry if Havetz leaves. He is the only player in the current team outside of Enzo and Silva with the required character. And Silva is basically done. Havertz is one of those guys that makes the team better even without the goals. With the goals he would be an absolute world beater.

It is bizzare I have to defend Kai, because I am not big fan of player like kai, I prefer my am to be more like Mount.

However, kai is crazy talented. If we have mbappe and salah as two winger no one will ever talk badly about kai because as a false 9 he is very good. Receiving the ball high, connecting the play, pressing, moving side to side, off ball run, crashing the box. So many good stuff.

Then here come key question, what do you want from your 9?
