Cavani

Featured Replies

I feel we need to do better than Cavani. Let's buy Werner and loan him back for the rest of the season and make do with Tammy, Bats, Giroud.
How would that help us for the rest of the season though?

The purpose of the Cavani signing would be an immediate improvement while not standing in the way of any long term plans e.g. Tammy's development or signing someone like Werner (next summer or now with loan back, which is obviously not gonna happen).

So the appeal of the Cavani deal is that it isn't competing with summer signings like Werner Sancho etc as opposed to targets like Zaha and Dembele...

For me Cavani would be a good option in the short term to maybe get us over the line in the top 4 race. He has great movement and more importantly a fantastic header of the ball which would suit the James crosses.

Not keen on massive wages or anything over the £10M transfer wages but would be i good purchase for 18 months.

No just no. Too old. Paid way too much. Why is everyone saying it's ok for the short term? We've been down this route so many times now, we need to build for the future, why on earth waste time and money on a player that will need replacing in the short term, who is making these decisions time and time again, let me guess as long as it's good for pr and shirt sales that's more important than team building and harmony.

We shouldn't be buying anybody at 33.

Because we need to inject some quality into the side. We aren't going to be able to sign the likes of Werner, Sancho etc at this moment in time. Most of the quality players are too important to their current clubs.

Most clubs will wait until after the Euro's to sell anyone as you can potentially sell a lot higher if players perform well to.

Difference between this time and previous times is we already have a heavily productive striker so we won't need him to recapture former glories, even basic competence will be a huge step up from Michy.

SSN say he's on 300k a week.

and there lie's the problem. At that money he has to be a success, though if he propels us into next years champions league it would be a good investment.

The real question is ...Do we see Tammy as the long time project? If so Cavani probably is the answer .If we are having doubts about Tammy for the future we have to look for a younger better model.

Timo Werner doesn't look like an option this window, and perhaps will be hard to get even in the summer when we are no doubt competing with other big European teams. But I don't think Cavani would be the answer even in the short term. I would rather see us go for a player like Dembele who may prove to be good enough to be a first choice player for many years.

Of course Cavani will cost lots of money, all good strikers too. If we are serious about the top 4 and beyond, we need to sign him. Money spend could be recovered next year when we make the CL. We do nothing this window, pretty sure we will miss out the top 4, and there's no europa league to bail us out this time. No CL money next season, we can kiss the ideas of signing Sancho etc good bye.

What is the point of that? We need a player now. We need someone (or two) to come in and strengthen us. We are still in cup games and have the chance to make top four.

At this point it looks like he is our only option? Higuain is a few years younger than him and he was here under his favorite manager and he still flopped, I'm afraid that Cavani lost his place in PSG simply because he's too old and if he can't do well in France anymore I don't know how he would fit here.

He's a risk no doubt. Cavani is a better player than Higuain in my view. He has more to his game apart from goalscoring. His effort and mentality is much better for starters.

Cavani lost his place because Icardi joined who is in his peak and attitude aside probably among the best 5 strikers in world football. No one is thinking Cavani will save us alone but he'll be good support for Tammy and a big improvment over Michy.

At this point it's a risk worth taking I guess, there are no signs of anyone else coming as Dembele might just go to Man United.

And who knows, he could fire us to a top 4 finish. I’m losing patience with Abraham slowly, sick of seeing him not taking these chances.

He’s scored a lot already, but we do create a lot of chances for him. It’s like he needs 3/4 chances to get a goal. Maybe he’s just on a bad run of form at the moment.

I’ve always been a fan of Cavani. He has tons of experience but we’ve seen that with other temporary fix strikers from other leagues don’t always work out. For 18months I’d say it’s worth the risk especially if we can nab Werner in the summer or another top striker then.

All strikers run into bad patches from time to time, especially young players. I am confident Tammy will be back on a goal run again soon.

For the record, I don't believe any of the Cavani talk.

The papers manufactured the story by asking Lampard a question in a press conference and are now running with it because all their other lies about our "£150m WARCHEST" have failed to materialise.

F**ktards. Every single one of them. And while we're at it, every single member of Sky Sports News "Transfer Talk" team needs taking out with a breech-loading rifle.

Looks like Cavani is off to Athletico Madrid. Their interest makes sense being that Diego Costa is out injured and they may be willing to offer PSG an actual transfer fee vs. a loan

Thank goodness looks like he's insisting on Atletico, just look at the Higuain & Pato January debacles, Torres as well (only 1 goal in that 2nd 1/2 of the season). Giroud too, has been alright in the EL but hasn't set the world on fire by any  means. Cavani will likely take time to settle in, hes 32 and will not be able to handle the pace of the league, his wages are sky high. I can only see a turkey, and the reason we are in this mess is because we bought Giroud in 2 years ago as a panic back up signing, sometime the cycle has to be broken, the club is paying for POOR recruitment all over the pitch why waste more millions and perpetuate it ? So keep Bats & Giroud until the summer then recruit wisely. Unless the recruitment is fixed to be in line with City/ Dippers this club will never seriously compete for 1st place for a very longtime. That 2 bob lack of a vision short term planning may work for Man U as they are the richest with a massive stadium , not for our club though.
