August 29, 20205 yr Ziyech will be the main man this season. I don't think people understand the value of accurate pass. Not a good pass, not a pass to the man but accurate pass that a striker or winger can finish. Cesc was the last player that possessed that skill at Chelsea. You could see how effortless his pass was to CHO who totally blundered it as he is bad at headers. Giroud will have a field day with those. Not to mention Werner who can beat any defender with his pace.

August 29, 20205 yr Knee problem is never great because it comes back, I hope it’s a minor strain he looks like he will be a key player
August 30, 20205 yr Not good, even Robben managed more than 54 minutes without getting broke. Hope he is back before it takes off next month.
August 30, 20205 yr https://www.si.com/soccer/chelsea/news/timo-werner-hakim-ziyech-react-to-first-chelsea-appearances-brighton-friendly Doesn’t look too worried about his injury.
August 30, 20205 yr His pass was an absolute worldie. I can’t remember ever seeing a winger make that pass from where he was. The last winger who could make that sort of pass was Mata, and he was a special player. Can’t wait to see more of Ziyech.

August 30, 20205 yr Can't wait to see Ziyech on the pitch with Mount, Jorginho and Pulisic... So many options for the final ball it will be a lot of fun.
August 30, 20205 yr Just saw how he got injured. Damn. You don’t twist a knee like that - not sure why lamps is saying there, and clearly not a knock. That is a concerning one for me and something definitely tweaked inside.

August 30, 20205 yr Reminds me of Joe Cole and Juan Mata - lacks the pace to be a consistent, top-tier threat in the EPL, but an amazing eye for a pass and the ability to consistently pull it off. Edited August 30, 20205 yr by SydneyChelsea
August 31, 20205 yr Reminds me of Joe Cole and Juan Mata - lacks the pace to be a consistent, top-tier threat in the EPL, but an amazing eye for a pass and the ability to consistently pull it off. That pass is what we need. He is also a major threat shooting outside the box.

He has better pace than both of those, plus his passing is on another level as well as being more of a goal threat to. Edited August 31, 20205 yr by Malcolm9
August 31, 20205 yr He is very Lampard player. All about end product. He is way more artistic but he gives you end product....remeber the times when we really didn't create that much in games but we always just scored the goals for win. Last term it was pretty much reversed. Frank has bough quality in terms of scoring.

You’d be hard pressed to find a Chelsea fan who doesn’t love both of those players though.

Mata was very consistent when he was here imo, it was only under Di Matteo his form sank a bit due to the defensive approach we played with throughout the rest of that season. I don't even recognise Juan Mata at United, it's hard to believe it's the same little magician we had here. Ziyech looks a player though, he caused us so many problems in both games last season.

My point is, we shouldn't expect him to be our answer to Salah or Mane, a player who will look to stay wide and dribble past opponents, because he doesn't have the pace to do that. Generally, these sorts of players are the most successful in the EPL. However, Ziyech is very much a player in Mata's mould who uses his skill to create time for himself, either to shoot or to play a perfect pass. David Silva's more recent success among the other glitterati at Man City shows the value of such a player. I don't see Ziyech being a 15+ goals player in the EPL, but I can see him turning up in big moments - arguably, what we need. One of Ziyech's big highlights is his ability to pick apart a deep defence. Teams will sit deep against Chelsea even at home and even players like Pulisic or Hazard are no real threat against a well organised defense. As we've seen already against Brighton, and from his passes to Quincy Promes against Chelsea in the CL, Ziyech takes a defensive organisation out of the equation by creating one-vs-one situations in the air for other attackers at the back post. Pulisic and Mount have already shown they relish these sorts of chances, and even more excitingly, it appears to be bread and butter for Kai Havertz. 9 hours ago, Slojo said: Mata was very consistent when he was here imo, it was only under Di Matteo his form sank a bit due to the defensive approach we played with throughout the rest of that season. September 2, 20205 yr Any update on his injury? Hope it's nothing. He has the best passing technique in the team despite playing for just half a game.
September 2, 20205 yr Not wishing to turn this into a Mata thread, but he was outstanding for Chelsea. I was beyond gutted when he left us as he had so much more to offer. He was consistently great for us over a number of seasons and I'm really glad he won the CL with us (his penalty aside!).
