For the German speakers on this forum, I am reading a book that mentioned a ‘bund’ , which means ‘league.’  So I got me thinking what does ‘Bundesliga’ mean? It seems to me that it means ‘league league’?  That makes no sense.  Any help?

"der Bund" which i would translate to "union" or "federation", as in "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" in english "Federal Republic of Germany". In combination with "die Liga" which i would say means "divison" or also "league", combines means "the Federal league" i would say.

"der Bund" in this case means the highest political order in a country like in my example before "Bundesrepublik Deutschland".

"der Bund" in general means "union" something is "merged together".
