f**k it, get Frank back on the books. He can add to his goals record and we can revert back to the 90s with our obsession of player/managers!

Why stop at Frank ? Would be rather amusing to see Lamps, Jody and Ashley come on as a triple substitution with a combined age of 122 🙂

Would you take Ronaldo ? Reckon he would be ok in the PL? He would tear it to bits at 35 and his is a position that requires a lot more speed, agility  and Fitness than CB.

Zlatan just signed a new contract at 39, nutrition and sports science is greatly improved these days, you will see a lot more players stay at the top level into their 30’s I would think.

No one's arguing that certain players are exceptional athletes who can still perform at the top level well into their 30s, and that clearly includes our new signing Thiago Silva and I'm very happy we've signed him.

My only point is, if I had a choice, I'd still take a 27-year old Thiago Silva over 36-year old version of him for obvious reasons, just like Ronaldo or Messi in their prime were better players than they are now (and I'd happily take either even now).

Yea no doubt but we need organisation more than athleticism we have 4 top athletes running about like benny hill cleaning windows.

There are not many top CB’s on the market especially as strong leaders as TS.

Under the circumstances this is exactly what we need and we didn’t pay a penny what’s not to like, that’s the way I see it anyway

Jokes aside if frank had been more Athletic, never his strong point, he is one of the few people that could do that in the modern era, look at Pirlo taking over juve, a few years ago could have been exactly that, even Buffon could do the same...come to think of it has a goalie ever become a manager?

So yes he did decline due to age but he's one of the best defenders of his generation so if he can keep a steady 6.5-6.9 rating he's still our best CB.

Think he'll prove to be among the top three CBs in the league this season alongside Van Dijk and Laporte.

Silva is by no means slow despite his age. Sure, not as rapid as he once was but he's plenty quick enough still.

The first word that comes to mind when watching Silva is control. He’s always in control, no matter what he’s doing. Never rushed on the ball, confident in his positional sense, and leads from the back.

Check in here at half time of the first match of the season

literally LOL'ed at this one.

0-0 at HT versus Brighton - f**king sell them all, sh*t players, can't adapt to the EPL, shoulda bought Regulion, etc

That rating picture is ridiculous.

Not sounding like a fanboy or anything, but I remember a few days ago when he was clearly the best CB in the world, and he's still definitely up there as well.

On paper, he'll easily be top 3 CB's in the league. I'd still probably put VVD as 1, but the 2nd spot is up for grabs and I think Silva takes it ahead of Laporte. As good as Laporte is on the ball and stuff, when it comes to actual defensive duties like throwing in a last ditch tackle Silva takes him.

Silva is top quality. If he's lost some pace he is still magnificent at winning duels and his positioning is spot on. Similar stretghts than JT. He is also a natural leader. Rudiger will be a small boy listening to his every word.

Happy with this signing could well look back on this one as a steal. Shown at the highest level he’s still got the ability, had lewandowski in his pocket in the final.

Brings that much needed leadership and experience to the back line which was sorely missed last season.

this graph is so misleading..we are debating from an average of 7.3 to a drop of 7 ? Ratings of all stats are the worst and highly subjective.. If anything the PPG for PSG has been highest of all seasons last year. He also only played 20 games last season.

It shows that he's still a top player and while he did drop a bit overall he is still a top player with such a high level of ability. Like I said, one of the best in his generation, he has been winning for 10 years in a row now and possibly only Chiellini can match him.
