August 28, 20205 yr I fear for him if Frank is looking to put Rudiger next to him and try to turn a donkey into a thoroughbred. Would have loved to have seen Tomori next to him, someone who could learn plenty from him.

We manage a keeper and we may awswel go streaking Definitely our best window since summer 2014. Marina and co are knocking it out of the park with all these new signings.

August 28, 20205 yr Thrilled with this one.. pace and age for CBs (good ones) is overrated.. if you are usually in the right position you don’t need to be running towards your goal or having to make last ditch tackles.. most average defenders once they lose pace look average as their poor positioning catches up.. the only thing I am worried about is his ability to head the ball because strength / jumping and agility certainly declines.. having said that there are ways to compensate for that.. I also have this huge hope that someone like an AC can learn to be a real defender from him since their style is similar.. I don’t think he has had that previously- a mentor..

August 28, 20205 yr https://theathletic.com/2021586/2020/08/28/thiago-silva-chelsea-move-contract/ Some interesting bits in this article by Jack Lang, worth a read.

August 28, 20205 yr I'd love Christensen under tutelage from Silva suddenly become the New (Scando) Hyppia, he has bags of potential, just needs a rocket up his laconic arse
August 28, 20205 yr 2 hours ago, RIP Mourinho said: Coman and Gnabry are absolutely rapid. Pace isn't an issue for Silva. I think PL attackers are faster and from more varying positions. Muller & Lewandowski are usually their two main threats IMO and neither are known to be pacy attackers (obviously many many MANY more attributes). I don’t think he’d be able to catch a full flow Vardy, Salah, Martial etc but he’ll be able to nip in before it got to that stage. Just my opinion. I think he’s an absolutely quality signing.

An overreaction might be warranted then considering we'll be 6-0 up at half time with Werner, Ziyech and Havertz all bagging a brace. We're winning the quadruple!!

August 28, 20205 yr If this doesn't get played at the Bridge next season it will be travesty https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=7EJSLlsk5lE&feature=share
August 28, 20205 yr I like it as a stop gap til we can retool the defense better with younger players. Even if he can't play every game, keep him for the toughest or most important games.

Coming at 36 into the most physically demanding league in the world is going to be a challenge but I'm sure his experience and intelligence will help him adapt to it. Would you take Ronaldo ? Reckon he would be ok in the PL? He would tear it to bits at 35 and his is a position that requires a lot more speed, agility and Fitness than CB. Zlatan just signed a new contract at 39, nutrition and sports science is greatly improved these days, you will see a lot more players stay at the top level into their 30’s I would think.

I literally don't believe for a second that a 35 year old today can't be as relatively good as a 30 year old from 20 years ago. As you say, nutrition and sports science has developed so much. It's about mental attitude for me, do they want it? I feel thiago had so many easier options than Chelsea. Probably some with a higher pay cheque. That speaks volumes to me.

He can add to his goals record and we can revert back to the 90s with our obsession of player/managers!
