Erling Haaland

Featured Replies

I really don't want us throwing that kind of money on Haaland given our absolute sh*te luck when it comes to strikers. Imagine the f**king hue and cry if we do get him and he turns into Morata. Apart from getting laughed at, it would put off any high profile striker ever signing for us again. I know we still continue to attract top players and we probably always will, but it would be an absolute dampener for both the club and the fans if Haaland doesn't work out. After all, you also have to take into account that he's only had a couple of good seasons. In fact, I'd say it would be wise for Haaland to stay at Dortmund for one more season and prove that he can perform consistently.

We paid big money for Drogba (well at the time it was) and Diego Costa wasn't exactly cheap either. Not buying potentially world class players, just because other, completely different signings in the past didn't work out, and because you are afraid of being laughed at, is stupid.

Of course there is the risk he could flop. Just as there is with any player in any position. They are all just human beings and whether they are able to perform, comes down to a lot of different variables. But believing in a "striker curse" is superstitious nonsense.

The amount we paid for Drogba and Costa was high but not ridiculously high. Even taking inflation into account, the transfer value wouldn't be anywhere near as much as Haaland is commanding right now. It's not about being superstitious but being cautious about spending ridiculous sums on "potential" world class players. Again, it's ridiculous that Haaland has had only a couple of good seasons and he's already being billed as the next Ronaldo/Messi.

The problem is, if we don't go all out for him, someone else will.  And if he ends up banging in 30-40 goals for City or United and we end up with someone barely scaping double digits, we'll stay in the second tier of clubs.

We need a goal scorer, and we need one who will keep us competitive, regardless of the cost.

And we need players to create, kova, James, Werner,  excepted, .

Forget Haaland. Without CL next season there is absolutely no chance to get him.

Agreed. He can get big money from a number of clubs but he wants to win trophies.

I wonder if other Chelsea fans are also bemused over the hysteria with Haaland? As we know only too well, scoring a shedload of goals in the Bundesliga doesn’t guarantee success in the PL! Then there’s other prolific European strikers like Sheva, Morata, Kezman, plus others who I’ve  thankfully forgot! On the other hand, who had really heard of Drogba before he turned up here?

Yeah certainly a risk. Have to say I haven’t watched him much. From what I’ve seen, he’s not MY type of player but that’s my bias. Drogba was very well known when he joined us though, so while I sympathise with the idea that we should be digging a bit deeper / looking for players off the beaten track rather than just swinging at today’s “hottest” prospect, I’m not sure Drogba is the best example.

Sheva arrived at the wrong end of his career, it was a bit of a vanity signing from Roman.

Morata was never good enough which is why he moves clubs every 2 years. He was a pretty poor plan B after failing to sign Lukaku.

Kezman was signed for peanuts to act as back up, there was never much expectation on him as a signing.

Haaland's only 20, already banging goals in for fun. There's a good reason basically every top club in Europe is trying to sign him at the moment.

Dogsh*t for a good few years? Between them they've won 6 out of the last ten European Cups and 17 out of the last 20 Spanish titles.

We keep talking about debt. Debt is only ever an issue if it can't be repaid. Madrid and Barca seem to have endless influence with government and banks to get by with huge debt. They also have huge revenue streams.

Haaland will not be moving to a second tier club. We've got to prove ourselves a first tier team again to sign him. Simple as. If not he'll be off to Barca, Madrid, Bayern, PSG or Juve.

Completely agree, we have a perception in this country of thinking everything is draped in gold over here. I would absolutely love Haaland to come here, but what european footballer would honestly choose us over Barcelona or Real Madrid. The only thing we have in our favour is money, and if we have  strong Champions League campaign this year, it may be able to add some food for thought.

Haaland has scored 20 goals in 14 CL games, he has pace, he has power, he can shoot with both feet and is good in the air. He got one decent run at the City defence last night and he took Ruis apart and was a little unlucky to stumble so he had to shoot off balance. I think he has everything to be as good as any striker we have seen since Ronaldo (the real one).

We have got to be bottom of the list of clubs he'd join, the only way I can see him joining us if we were the only team paying up, even then he'll probably think to himself wait another year and then join one of the other clubs

Is that the one mentioned in Gregorys Girl?

He would cost us about £370m, which is about $500'000'000, which is the same price for the most expensive house in the World which i was looking at today, not even winning the Euromillions could buy that house or Haaland.

Understand that Haaland hasn't found the net in 5 games now? Sounds just like our kind of striker..................sign him up.

Regrettably I can only see City signing him.

For all the money city have spent, they have never made a signing of this magnitude. Im not saying they wont break the british record for him, but i think its more likely us or United would spend that big. Also we have seen them miss out on players because they didnt want to pay excessive agent fees and wages, so imo I think city is unlikely this summer. If he wants city, and city want him, then I think he will stay another year at dortmund, and leave for his buy out clause price.

You could be right - I hope you are.

Would love us to sign Haaland as he is the REAL DEAL.

But I think with Aguerro going, City WILL spend big on a striker so it's either Haaland or Kane. Play under a great coach, in a great squad with almost guaranteed CL football every season + play for a club his Dad played for. Be surprised if he ends up anywhere but City and if it's us I'll be absolutely ECSTATIC!!

Imagine what a statement it would be to land him! Interesting summer coming up again, Pep has already started the mind games saying City are skint. We need to make top 4 though 1st to stand any chance.

Hasn't scored in his last six games .... 🙂

As soon as he heard we were interested, he made sure that he showed us he is the perfect kind of striker for us by having a goal drought.

Nah, he's just THAT desparate to leave so he's working on their asking price. 😉
