September 7, 20223 yr Absolutely deserved the time to turn things around. Also deserved a lot better given how he handled the Abramovich sanction when he was essentially the spokesperson for the club in front of a hostile media and still managed to grind out results. As other have said there must have been a bust up behind the scenes. It has also not been a good look with him sitting on the bench constantly railing against the players in the earshot of the substitutes. Thank you Tommy for the good times. Maybe try and find your inner Zen now that you have a break.

Same reason why Tuchel balls looks great against the top teams that come at us. You can't counter attack against a 10 man bus which is what we have to deal with every week

September 7, 20223 yr I like Tuchel as a person but it was pretty clear we were falling away and he had no idea how to correct it. Our attacking play has been stale for too long and too many people noted we play with the handbrake on and just don't trouble defences. There was no fear factor. His integrity was top notch during the sanctions and I'm sure we all appreciate and thank him for that period but the recent results were too bad for a top six team. Disappointed at the timing - thought he'd get thru the WC atleast, but the more I think about this the less surprised I am. Terrible results this season (42% win percentage, 42% loss) - that pattern stretches back to April. Barely improved, but to me this actually goes back to Nov 6, 2021 vs Burnley Including the 4-1 loss to Brentford, our PL record since then is 7 wins, 4 draws, 5 losses (25 points in 16 games). If we kept going on at that rate, we'd barely scrap 60 points at the end of this season. That's the form of a team at best finishing 6th, but more likely ending up around 7th or 8th. All our wins this season have been less than convincing if we're honest. I thought we might have turned a corner for the better after the Tottenham match, but the Leeds match was horrifically bad. I couldn't see any evidence of improvement and Tuchel sadly looked clueless to fix our problems. The more I digest the news, the more I think it's the right decision but the timing of it is poor. However, it would have been good to see how he went with all the new signings first before making a definitive judgment one way or another. Edited September 7, 20223 yr by Jezz

Sky always does this with stats. They compare a handful of games to season's worth of games which is one of the biggest crimes in statistics.

The recent performances against the likes of Leeds and Southampton weren't outliers they were starting to become a predictable outcome. But I agree on Rudiger, His drive and energy was huge for how Tuchel wanted to play. We lost a hell of a lot letting him go.

You can't counter attack against a 10 man bus which is what we have to deal with every week In Potter's defence, he has attacking wingers as his wingbacks in Trossard and March which helps him more in attack. Direct football has a tendency to break down opposition better than an endless recycling of snail pace possession. Just look at City and Liverpool at their best. It's why I am surprised Tuchel never changed his tactical approach on the matter. Always possession and zero directness.
September 7, 20223 yr On Paddy Power, Graham Potter is 2-9 odds on, presumably because Chelsea have already asked Brighton for permission to speak to him. Second is Pochetinho is 4-1, Zidane is 14-1 and Mancini is 20-1. But........................................................... What about if we totally fu**ed Spurs up and made a bid to bring Antonio Conte back. That would make my day 🤣🤣🤣 Edited September 7, 20223 yr by coombsie

To happen this early however, when there is genuinely no structure in place, is shocking. Tuchel steered us through absolute sh*t last season so he warranted far more time than 7 matches, not to mention they backed him the entire summer. Tuchel, must have tarnished far too many relationships looking from the outside in, as this makes no sense. Honestly wasn't his in-ability to get along with other people in the front office what lead to him being let go at PSG? It would not surprise me if he broke a lot of relationships with players and front office beyond repair. Honestly his intensity may have just gotten too overbearing and just slowly turned off all of the players. I remember last year we where beating Norwich bad I think it was like 4 - 0 at that point (ended up winning 6-0 I think) and Tuchel was still up barking at the players. I even commented that he looked a little surly for a manager who's team was winning 4 - 0. Didn't think of it much at the time because we were mostly winning. But I can imagine that level of intensity can really grate on a team to the point where they just stop responding. I mean if you are getting yelled at while you are winning big you probably start to mentally come to the conclusion that the manager simply can not be pleased no matter what you do. Based on results, not knowing the backroom stuff I would have given him to the World Cup break. But honestly if the backroom stuff was pretty bad you could see why they might pull the trigger early. September 7, 20223 yr Forget about the new owners it’s felt like somethings been wrong since the whole Lukaku interview. The team has been playing some dire football at times, we nearly lost the WCC Benitez style against some pretty average opposition. No question the CL win and performances at the start of his tenure including a tremendous start to last season showed Tuchel to be a world class manager. However the down turn in performances has been going on long enough that if there was to be a turn around it would have happened by now. Clearly something hasn’t been right. Part of me is really disappointed with the sacking, but another is slightly looking forward to hopefully some entertaining football again. Tuchel will never be forgotten and I will always be thankful for the amazing times he gave to the club.

It's an absolute embarrassment that we lost against them.

Facts really cloud an emotional time! But goodness, that does not lie. If you cut apart 2021/22, you'll see a tale of two halves there also (pre and post Nov 2021).

September 7, 20223 yr Wow, what news to wake up to. Can’t say that I am shocked by the decision, our football has been absolutely lifeless, predictable and boring. We are like an empty husk or shell when we play. And the press conferences were just cringy. I agree TT is an elite tactician for the big occasion, but his inflexibility and nous for breaking down the lesser teams was terribly exposed. The team had no fight and spirit towards the end, and to me that falls on TT. This is a results driven game nowadays, particularly at CFC, and sadly ours have not been up to snuff. I would’ve certainly been all in on giving TT more time if the lads were fighting for each game, with spirit and the desire to win at all costs. But that has been absent and sucked out of the team. What signs were there that this was going to improve? That question alone helps me digest this and look forward. Thank you Thomas for the memories, wish you the best and saddened you left in this manner. KTBFFH Edited September 7, 20223 yr by ForeverChels

September 7, 20223 yr No part of this or the summer makes sense. Ship off a £100 mil asset and buy £100's million more in players for a manager only to get rid after a few games. Then replace with an unqualified manager who never managed at this level and has won nothing. Todd may as well give himself the job.
September 7, 20223 yr I remember when Chilwell tore his ACL in the Juventus game, although a great performance I felt a very large dark cloud over the club after the match. A premonition of the sh*t storm to come. That was the beginning of the end.
September 7, 20223 yr Relieved now it's done. potter has built a good team with players who are on board with what he wants. Bit different managing a team of egos who will get you the boot if they don't fancy what you want them to do
