i thought we had already signed him up.. cant believe we sacked him. Uncle hiddink - back to the bridge now.

No, he was in discussions about extending his contract beyond 2024.

His current contract was signed in June 2021, which took him until the end of the 2023/24 season.

hmm i think where it broke down for him was every time Boehly was in the stadium we lost or just about drew.. but seriously very harsh in my opinion

A f**king farce and sadly typical Chelsea. Yes, we've had some poor results recently but begs the question who is to blame. I've followed the club for more years that I care to remember and should be immune to all these sackings etc by now but Tuchel's sacking came as a shock. Who next to manage the club and will they be given time to develop a squad and style of play. Also who would want to take on the job given it's a poison chalice.

Anyone here actually believe if we got Pep or Klopp they wouldn’t be sacked within two years?

Two years? I'd expect nothing over 18 months after they tell Pulisic and Ziyech to f-off, and ask Mase if he still thinks he's playing for the academy.

I agree it's harsh, but I just had this unfortunate sense of inevitability that things were fast deteriorating and he didn't have any idea on how to turn things around.

All this talk about wanting someone with the same vision as the owners and all that bollocks, seems to me the owners had a new manager lined up the second they come through the door and Tuchel rejected Ronaldo. Clueless idiots running this club.

I’d hope that the new owners would be willing to at least attempt break the cycle of sacking the manager every 18 months though, will be amazed if the new guy is here in 2 years time after this.

Or, having them win the FA + PL title convincingly in the first year or two but having a hard time directly afterwards with tons of arguments that it's not necessarily manager related to be sacked and start a new cycle (after spending hundreds of millions once again of course).

The Mourinho departure in 2007 hit me hard. I was numb for days on end.

I shook my head when Ancelotti and Di Matteo were let go. The manner of their departures really disgusted me.

The Mourinho departure in 2015 was the final straw for me. From that moment onwards, I stopped emotionally investing in our managers.

Now every time we have a departure like this, I think I've become desensitised to it. I don't know whether that's a good or bad thing.

Time will tell on that front. Guaranteed it wouldn't happen if Roman was still our owner.

I'm willing to give them a chance to see if they appoint someone they want and stick to a long-term project. If we're here in 18 or 24 months time talking about this again, then the answer will be crystal clear.

Oh dear what have we done?  I understand the new owners wanting their own man, but why spend quarter of a billion on a manager you’re not sure of?  What’s worse is a big portion of the money has been spent with a back 5 in mind.  Are we now looking for a new manager who only prefers the back 5 system?

I have to admit although I’ve tried to remain positive apart from the odd cup game I’ve been bored sh*tless watching the football for the last 8 months.  As we all know nothings ever boring for too long being a Chelsea fan.  I thought things would be different after Roman, but long live the king.

Wow that was quick! Even under Roman Tuchel would have gotten more time. Anybody else thinking that something significant must have happended behind the scenes? He was heavily involved in our transfer strategy this summer and just two weeks ago there were talks about a contract extension.

Anyways I'm gutted for him. He took the team from 8th place to the top 4 and won the Champions League in the process, making us one of the toughest teams to play against. Then he has a great start to the season until Covid derails the season and afterwards he has to guide us through on of the most difficult periods in our club's hostory which I think he handled exceptionally well. Then we have to spend a whole summer replacing Rüdiger and AC because the old regime screwed up the extensions and now he gets fired after just seven games while we're sixth in the league and have lost one CL group stage game. Of course there were problems for a while now and the football we're playing at the moment is horrible, but he's a proven top coach, who has done a lot for us, I think unless something significant has happened behind the scenes he would have deserved more time.

All that's left for us now is to thank him for delivering us only the second Champions League trophy in our club's history, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup, and for guiding us through a very tough period. Thank you Thomas and good luck in your further managerial career! 👏

Wow, shocking I figured he had at least until the World Cup break and I thought they would most likely keep him on until the end of the season.

Exciting!! Who's next? Will we win another Champions League this season? Will we start shooting at the goal more than twice in a match? Is Roman still secretly running the club?

Ha, forgot about our proud tradition to win the CL (and the Europa League) with an interim!

Look, that's absolutely fair - you thinking he didn't have an idea on how to turn things around. And there will be others (including myself) who would be of the opposite opinion. But what you absolutely do not do is take his time away - especially from someone who has committed so much to this club in a short space of time. If this can happen to Tuchel at this point in the season, it can, and probably will, happen to his successors. We will remain a club that values inconsistent trophy hauls over legacy. And when the money dries up, what happens?

Unfortunately thought this might happen if results didn't change soon, but was expecting it around the World Cup break in winter, not now!

Really unsure how this is gonna go, especially when we signed so many new players, seems a bit too soon to sack Tuchel, know performances have been bad often recently, but thought could give him a couple of months at least to try and integrate the new signings and get the team gelling and performing again.

Will remember well 2021 as a great year for Chelsea with Tuchel, with the Champions League victory and team performing well - but 2022 been a slide down in performances and results on the whole, and except for the Club World Cup win, it's been generally a disappointing and troubling time mostly.

Curious to see who the new manager is, but potentially a bit of a tricky time to come into the job - hope Tuchel takes some time out to clear his mind a bit, will be interesting where he goes next, but mainly when considering his time at Chelsea will think back on the CL and CWC successes.

Sadly I agree with his sacking...too many poor performances...too much loyalty to out of form players...we need a fresh start at a point where we can still make inroads in the league and cups...Potter or Poch for me...
