Agree though that he needs to play either as a RB/RWB to develop his game & work on his deficiencies at a young age, not at RCB. IMO you can apply the same to Mount further upfield, CHO as a WB, Pulisic also been experimented as a WB. That is my biggest concern with the 3-4-3 formation.
August 10, 20214 yr We need to sign this guy. What makes Thiago Silva so world class is his incredible calmness and composed build up play, which has an immense impact on the goalkeeper and our other defenders. That's what I see when I see Koundé play. He's technical, imposing and keeps his cool. Since we've signed Thiago we've all been sighing "if only he was 15 years younger" and this could be our chance to make that happen. If he get's to learn from the master for a season I'd be very optimistic about the future of our backline, even a back 4 with Koundé-AC4 or Koundé-Rüdiger wouldn't make me sweat. Oh, and his height doesn't bother me for a second.

Other parts of his game let him down. Thiago Silva has that whole package in place and we are witnessing it.

I agree TAA crosses lots but IMO often crosses for the sake of crossing. Reece is far more accurate and I think we will see that this season with lakaku on the end of them .

They also have 800-900 forward passes and 300-400 backward passes, James have 450 backward passes and just 395 forward passes. James got criticized for this in his game against Scotland, all he did was backward and sideways passes through the whole game. He is good at the defensive part, but against low block teams we need more then 1 goal and 2 assists. The best attacking wingbacks can provide 10 goals and 10 assists. They have twice as many crosses as thats there the Liverpool attack is almost completely concentrated on, just compare that stat to pretty much any other team in football and you will find its totally disproportionate. And you cant base it on any of the England games when you see just how risk averse Southgate has them playing. He was outstanding playing RB over the past 2 seasons, including the CL final and plenty of other big games. Sticking him in at RCB is a complete waste of his talent.

RJ crosses have no pace, almost like he floats it in and it's bread and butter clearance for the CBs. In contrast TAA's crosses have ferocious pace.
August 11, 20214 yr ESPN “reporting” Madrid looking at Kounde as replacement for Varane/ Ramos sort of makes sense.

Ofcourse i appreciate first team level is a whole different ball game but the narrative we're sticking him in an totally unfamiliar position simply isn't true. And I don't think he will be wasted attacking wise atall, how many assists and chances did Azpi create coming forward into the half spaces in that position (especially to Morata)? If anything the crossing angles are better from that position. Edited August 11, 20214 yr by Argo

I thought Kounde was pretty much a nailed on buy but this is sounding far from it,your right about Real Madrid, and although Tuchel wants him someone on the board feels he is to much money and to short. And although we offered a player and cash apparently they want another player whom we are not willing to let go.
August 11, 20214 yr Latest fro you know who “Sevilla director Monchi on Chelsea-Koundé deal: “Many clubs have asked for Koundé. Of course there’s interest but no official bid on the table. I don’t know what’s gonna happen... if an important bid arrives, we’ll sell as this is our policy to improve the team”

August 11, 20214 yr Real makes a lot of sense, but they could also be being used by Sevilla to get a to cough up the full 80mill so they can get on with business.
August 11, 20214 yr I imagine we’re wanting to ship zouma first otherwise we have too many CBs. For this season at least
August 12, 20214 yr Granted it is a media webpage so might be bollox, but if Chelsea are interested in paying for Kounde in instalments because of concerns over fair play, how does any of that reconcile when we could be getting £34m for Tammy and the fee for Kounde is £68m, yet PSG who already, prior to Messi, were at 95% of their income spent on salaries, are paying Messi a £25m signing and £25m per year (Net).
August 12, 20214 yr It will take a while, maybe end of the window but I think if TT really wants him we deliver him. Just as we did Lukaku for him.
August 13, 20214 yr If we can't land Kounde just stick with Zoum. If he wants to leave promote Chalobah. Now I see what the club wants with Kounde. He is a ball playing CB like Rudiger. Zouma or Chalobah are more "d-first, safe pass" type of defenders.

A deal involving Zouma and maybe one other going the other way + money Im good with but straight cash hes not worth it imo and id rather Real Madrid go for him. if we are going to spend that much money on a CB my choice would be between Marquinhos, De Ligt and Bastoni and all 3 of them look unlikely to leave their clubs Ideally, Thiago Silva, Christensen, Rudiger, Chalobah and one of the 3 I mentioned and we are sorted for this season and probably the next few years as well

At 22, he's experienced as he can be already, just didn't have a hype run like De Ligt on the CL. If you're up for the dutch, then I believe you should be open for Kounde as well because they're just as good by the sounds of it. Hoping we settle quickly either on this deal or say we're sticking with Zooms and Chalobah because the season's started so let's stop that bs of transfer rumours clouding the minds of our players. Absolutely hate that the transfer window runs through the start of the season.

Absolutely hate that the transfer window runs through the start of the season. I meant hes an unknown in the prem. Its one thing playing and getting experience in another league but its another in the prem. And judging by how some players have looked great at other leagues and poor in the prem, its still a worry. Not saying Kounde is a bad player either, I just dont think its worth that much money unless we can offload a couple of our fringe players going the other way. You're right though, whatever the case may be, it needs to be solved quickly. I would personally like to see Chalobah be in the squad, and get a fair shot at starting some cup games and league games where we're resting players.
August 14, 20214 yr For me he was a must but now with Chalobah emerging as a real quality option maybe this transfer can wait.
August 14, 20214 yr Make a hell lot sense to wait another season , with Silva leaving and potentially Rudiger. Buying him now would be a distraction to the team as we are overloaded in that area, and chances are we won;t persist with 3 defenders for the whole season.

Even if Chalobah keeps improving, I think signing Kounde is as important as ever, if he is as good as some are saying that is. Rudiger and Christensen's contract issues are a very real issue and we can't assume the pair of them will be here next season. We will be in a bit of a sh*t position if they don't sign and we have nobody here ready to replace them. We also need to think about Thiago Silva as well. I know he wants to play in the next world cup, so I am sure he will want to extend his contract with us for another season after this one, but still, football changes very quickly, and however good Thiago Silva may still be right now, his age means his body could stop him being so good any day now. I wouldn't fancy going into next summers transfer window with only Thiago Silva, Chalobah, Azpilicueta, James and Zouma (if he stays this season) as our only CB options. It would leave us in a desperate position.
