October 2, 20214 yr I think the biggest compliment that I can pay him right now is that he doesn't look out of place in the team.
October 2, 20214 yr I don't mean to be a party pooper, but when I was watching the first goal today, it seemed clear to me that Chalobah was offsides. The replays that were shown on the TV were not useful in seeing if that was indeed the case. Was he offsides or not?

I’m pretty sure Dean would have chalked it off if he could!

His confidence must be soaring having the manager show faith in him. This is exactly how to bring young players on… now Thomas show CHO the same faith and reap the rewards.

From the two views I saw of it the one with Chalobah slightly out of picture it certainly looks off side when the ball comes to him. On the other view you can clearly see he is on side when the ball is flicked on. I think it’s just because the defender was moving out while Chalobah was attacking the ball makes it look off. Phillip you really should invest in one of these new TVs that are all the rage. They got freeze frame, colour and everything. 🤣
October 2, 20214 yr Think I called this one right. So good already and so much potential too improve. Seems to have a great attitude as well.
October 16, 20214 yr Bit of a learning experience for Chalobah today I thought. Did not handle Toney when he wisely moved out towards Trevoh after having no luck against Christensen. Also lucky escape when Toney was a fraction offside for that penalty which i'm 100% sure Taylor would have given.
October 16, 20214 yr He was decent. Saved a certain goal but almost foolishly gave away a penalty. Thank god Toney kept falling over all game or else that'd be a nailed on penalty
October 17, 20214 yr He played well, that was never a pen in a million years. If it was will see 12 pens a game to each side minimum. It was barley contact and a dive.
October 17, 20214 yr Played well, needed his height there, saved a goal bound shot on the line too. Tuchel deserves credit for keeping and playing him, a Jose or Conte would have sent him away before the season starts.
October 17, 20214 yr Yesterday was part of the learning curve. He didn't stand out, but was mainly solid. The tug on Toney made my heart stop, and we were lucky there, but every player, even a very experienced one, can cause a penalty (isn't that so, Chilly?). It will be interesting how more often he and Sarr will play together and form part of our defense for the next few years. Edited October 17, 20214 yr by Valerie

They'd have also subbed him at 60 minutes for Reece James and put Azpi in the three.
October 17, 20214 yr Zouma had a bit of a habit of giving up and watching on when he thought there was nothing he could do. Fortunately Chalobah looks like he's more proactive and came up with a goal line clearance Ashley Cole would be proud of.

Yep, I'm still to be convinced he's every game starter quality but the difference in stylistic fit between him and Kurt is night and day.

He's got a long way to go yet but I think Tuchel/Chelsea can feel fully vindicated in their decision to allow Zouma to leave and putting faith in Chalobah. I think there's still room for a top quality centre back in our squad, particularly a left sided one, but swapping out Zouma for Chalobah feels like a better fit for Tuchel's system/playing style.
October 18, 20214 yr I never noticed that Trev ran to cover the line. That is fantastic awareness and he’s contributing a lot. Obviously Saturday was a tough game and the makeshift defence wasn’t ideal but they did survive the onslaught.
October 18, 20214 yr I’ve been quite impressed with him so far. He always seem to produce a steady 7/10 performance. I’d still have him down as #5 centre back with everyone fit but he’s shown himself as a more than capable back up so far.
October 20, 20214 yr Great start to the season from Chalobah. Hugely impressive defensively, and chipping in with a few goals too. I'd agree that he's currently 4th/5th choice, but it's players like Chalobah that help teams go far domestically. Someone who can slot in for 20/25 games a season, allow for rotation and not impact the quality of the starting eleven. Fergie relied on these type of players for years, Park, Fletcher, O'shea.
October 20, 20214 yr I predict that down the tracks we will have the "Triple C" as our home grown defensive line ... Chalobah, Christensen and Colwill ! No midgets at the back :-)
October 23, 20214 yr Another 90 muns for Chalobah and another clean sheet. Brilliant start to the season for him.
October 25, 20214 yr Should he be ahead of Dave going forward in that RCB role? Love Dave to bits but Chalobah hasn't put a foot wrong yet and do we look to the future now.
