I think we simply have to try something different. We are simply conceding far too many goals. Dont get me wrong, I love the guy and delighted he is with us, but something has to change and us conceding goals is part of the reason we're not winning games. If we can't play a high line when pressing, it's because a simple ball over the top and a foot race isn't going to be won by Silva.

I reckon we tighten up and can play further up the pitch without him which is needed to press in an opponents half. No other side in the EPL plays a 40 year old centre back and it is the quickest league in world football.

A high line is much more about tactical understanding than winning a footrace and if that's what you are concerned about then you could always pair him up with Colwill instead of another slow CB in Diassi. Point is Silva isn't the problem.

Like the lad but that 2nd Everton goal pissed me the f**k off. If he wants to establish himself here and be a club icon, needs to learn to put his body on the line.

We can say with absolute certainty that Terry, Cahill, Alex, Ivanovic, and Carvalho would of done everything to try and block that shot.

My guy just stood there.

He chose number 26, a number that holds significant meaning for Chelsea and its supporters. To live up to this legacy, he must go the extra mile and work incredibly hard to uphold the fans' expectations and hopes.

He doesn’t impress me at all, neither by the way he plays and his attitude seems off too, seems to have a massive ego but granted so do a lot of 20/21 year olds.

Id be willing to cut him further slack if his mistakes were due to being played at left back like being pressed out on the sideline/burned by a winger etc but they’re not.  Yesterday he just stood and watched when it was clear for an eternity a shot was coming and then during the week he just dived on the ground rather than contest a header.

Playing out of position or not, needs to do a lot better as a defender in the box. You don't see lots of goals at this level like the first one we conceded. The rebound didn't exactly land at the perfect spot for the eventual goal scorer, any good defender would have at least made a body block or throw his head onto the ball ( if it was JT). Again, can't just use the usual excuse of ' he is just a promising youngster' to cover player's poor performance and lack of effort.

Given Sanchez was out of position on the first goal Levi should have rushed the scorer rather than act like an extra goal post.

The man who made the 26 famous would have thrown his body in the way and likely blocked that goal, the boy who wears it now has a long, long way to go.

I was very surprised when he just stood there. It made doucoure job very easy. If he could delay doucoure shot for just a couple seconds, Sanchez could have get into position and that goal won't happen

What is the idea with him? Is he the leftback solely because he's tall? I know Poch's said he's worried about the height of the team but we keep conceding goals down his side so whats the point?

He's not a good leftback so either bench him or move him to CB.

I'd seen it as part of the system we're looking to use (given the injuries across the back line, not necessarily a system to use long term), not having wing backs flying down both sides at the same time and leaving us vulnerable at the back.

Rather, 1 larger CB hybrid and 1 traditional wing back. 4 at the back whilst out of posession, 3 in possession.

When we have the ball Colwill occupies the lcb role, silva central, disasi/badiashile in rcb. The RB pushes up into a wide midfield role providing width and allowing palmer/sterling to drift more central and impact play.

Think we've seen it with the subs too, he'll often move disasi to RB and reverse the system when colwill goes off

He’s a CB who is filling in at full back

it’s not his position at all he’s doing it for the team

he’s probably the best of the rest there. I can’t be too harsh on him

I’m sorry but this guy must be the most over rated player we have!

playing out of position currently I know but that is no excuse. He’s a professional footballer but had Championship standard striker and winger making him look silly tonight time after time.

anyone who thinks he will turn into greatness when played at centre back needs to give their head a wobble!

looks like we will have to spend another pile of cash on centre halves to replace Thiago as they all look woeful to me ( maybe Badashieli just about cuts it)

I don't fully agree. You can't play a CB at LB with a bunch of players not capable of turning possession based football into an attacking threat. We clearly need to play players in their right position and play a more counter attacking style to improve.

It's a sorry situation for all involved. We lost 2 left backs ( cost over 100M), the third choice is loaned, so either we don't play LB, or someone has to play out of position. Gusto played there, did a decent job but then the RB was left to a CD. Regardless what exact position he plays, he needed to defend better. I get he may not contribute much going forward, but can't keep losing his marked player.

I am not confident Colwill would be moved into the middle even if Chilwell was back. Chilwell was being played left wing earlier in the season.

Doesn’t matter where he plays he needs to up his game the mistakes made or irrelevant to his position. You can CB so have to move across and cover LB if the LB is out of position. I haven’t see a player who has been so ineffective at stopping crosses and gets turned so easily.

Step it up!!

I don't like how petulant he is as well. He has hands all over attackers, gets rightly penalised, and then loses his sh*t with the ref - happens all the time.

Needs to grow up a bit.

I guess we all forget he's essentially still a raw 20 year old, and probably being played more than his performances merit due to injuries to other players.

But Chilwell will only be back for two or three games before being out for another six months. So definitely not a long term solution.

We can’t sign another LB though; we already have 2 LBs on big money. The mistake the club made in the summer was falling for the agent putting word in the press that Pep was after him.
Long term the club will have to make a decision in the summer and sell one of Chiwell/Cururell/James. Without European football its unsustainable keeping 3 fullbacks on ridiculous wages.

This also i hate it just get on with the bloody game it’s you who’s not doing your job not the ref.

He gets bullied by most forwards easily, Preston front many toyed with him whenever they got the ball up to him.

Unfortunately doesnt justify the hype.. has been quite average to poor this season..

His performances at Huddersfield and Brighton justified the hype.

The entire back line is sh*te, i'm not going to blame the CB playing LB too much, questions need to be asked of the manager.
