Sorry but potter has to be one of the most boring mangers we have ever had there’s no fight or self belief in him . It’s Been a massive mistake hiring him and hopefully he’s gone sooner rather

I hand on heart believe he will get another free pass next season with all the nonsense excuses I've heard from the Board.

Hopefully, I'm wrong, but they gambled big on Potter, and I think they will be willing to play the long game with him unfortunately.

I can see this club going through a banter era like Liverpool, United, and Arsenal had.

The fact there's talk of emergency board meeting alone means his job isn't even fully safe for the rest of the season let alone next.

Sunday I actually think is close to a make or break game for him. This team have always been up for Spurs regardless of the form leading upto the game and we will have our strongest team fielded since Milan at home.

ten Hag's football is pretty sustainable.

Is it? Maybe he's phoning it in until he's got more suitable players but I'm really not seeing this great football everyone else is.

I don't buy that for a second. That was clearly a reactional post after going 1-0 down last night, they improved a lot in the 2nd half and it got them the win, something they never would have done last season. Their aggression, the speed of their play, it's a lot better than it ever was under Solskjaer. Performances are still a bit up and down, which is to be expected, but they are a lot better than they were last season. Rashford actually looks like a player now, Maguire is out, they have two good CB's and even the likes of Fred are pulling out decent performances now and again. Anybody that thinks this United are only a bit better because of Casemiro is talking rubbish. If it was as simple as that, then we would easily be top 4 because of Silva. Ten Haag has improved them and they continue to improve as the season is going on. Even when they aren't performing at their best, they are still getting results.

Ofcourse he's doing better than Potter (the excuses are wearing thin since Enzos arrival let alone anything else but worth noting pre world cup he was marginally ahead of us) but he's been massively helped by Casemiro. If I was pushed into a comparison I'd compare it to Sarri/Hazard.

no doubt there will be some on twitter too, horrid place at times.

Do you reckon it could be other team's fans being arseholes? or just the Twitter'esque (alleged) Chelsea lot!

Weren't there some racist remarks a few years ago on insta or something, that turned out not even to be Chelsea fans!

These are the takeaways I got from Potter's laughable presser

he cracked a joke about being late because of attending a 'Crisis' meeting - a dig at the hacks sat in front of him, funny really Graham ?

Then a lady journo asked if he had The Board's backing - he reiterated that he did

some Chelsea fans (like on this forum) are "fair and understand the position" I suppose I don't fall under that category since after the WC

Then he proceeded to give out excuses to excuse his ongoing performance as a wanna be élite manager

- "there are things that were a contributing factor" to losing vs Soton last time out, he didn't elaborate upon the "things"  maybe his tactics ?

- he's not here "to convince" us but his "actions have to convince" us , assume he meant he was not there at the presser today to convince anybody he knows what he's doing in this position

- some players have told him the pre season to 22/23 was "the worst they ever had"

- there has been a "manager change"

- Old players leave new players come in"

- "Unprecedented injury situation....played Newcastle" he then listed all the players on the treatment table  at that point of the season

- Then of the new signings they are not "28 year old 400 game elite players they're young .....take time to adapt"

He then said the above 7 excuses were all "inconvenient facts" to those of us judging his performance to date.

A team reflects its Leader......our teams's leader has just given the team all the excuses they need not to show up and perform, I turned off the presser in disgust what a MUG he is !

Re idiots threatening him &his family, I don't call those types Chelsea fans. He seems like a decent bloke, I think he's been set up for failure by Bully and co, shame we all have to suffer the poor performances on match days. He is defo here to stay for the not too distant future so I've resigned myself to suffer the 2 bob performances on match day now and hope that by a very very longshot Bully & Co are correct in keeping faith with him currently.

Makes you wonder if there is another meaning to picking a username like TimesUpPotter....

Real sick b@stards whoever they are, won't write it off that they indeed are "Chelsea fans", as every club has their share of idiots. We all love our clubs whoever we support, but some take it way too far.

Yeah, I don't think our fans are uniquely vile. The abuse Steve Bruce got at Newcastle, Rafa got at Everton and the England players (mainly Saka/Rashford/Sancho) got after Euro 2020 was way worse than what I've seen Potter get to be honest. Obviously who ever wrote death threats to him should be arrested but I don't think this is a Chelsea thing in particular.

There's always a thick group of people within all the big clubs who feel the need to prove to themselves that they are real fans.

Hope him and his family get a bodyguard, disgraceful for people to send death threats just because they don't like the manager. At the end of the day, football is a sport and we're all human. Hope they track down whoever did that and ban them from Chelsea games for life.

Whatever we think of his performance, completely out of order for people and threaten his family. Internet is full of vile people unfortunately, I hope police and club follow up and punish those accordingly.

Pre-season was terrible, even Tuchel admitted it. Was it Tuchel's grand plan for a tour around US? I doubt it, but let's not point out whose fault is it. However, pre-season was August, and we had another pre-season during the world cup, and we done f* all in that as well. So, whose fault was it, again?

What's your spin on the current win % stats and goals scored per game stats, as per tables posted up the thread ?  🙂

I mainly deal with crime stats - without going into the weeds simply looking at the table that you posted (if that's what you are referring to) to my mind a lot of that data is not relevant to today's game so you are comparing apples to oranges, so you'd have to put an * in some cases. The game has changed, especially in terms of the offside rule and the use of VAR, which of course has only been introduced for a couple of seasons, so trying to compare GF for instance for Potter first 25 games against say Docherty in 66 is nonsense, or Williams in 1905 is pointless, same goes for GA in my opinion especially since the introduction of VAR.  Those days you had a linesman with a flag, if he missed the offside the goal stood; any goal today is checked by VAR and can be ruled out by a whisker of offside. I would be comparing era to era perhaps. I'd also want to be comparing tactics and formations - i.e. what was his % win rate etc when playing 433 over 532, then compare that for example against the the other CFC managers of the same era who played the same formation. Does weather play a factor? Does travel play a factor? players available play a factor and so on.  There are so many variables and sets of data you can look at an analyze, that's why teams here in NA have a complete data analysis team to drill down to fine details, which we know Boehly and his team are doing.  NA sports have been doing it since at least 2003 with the infamous 'Moneyball' Red Sox team and then it became widely used a few years later, although they were using a form of analytics even earlier especially in NFL.  Even football teams in the England and Europe were using data sets early on players in particular.

On the surface, we know that Boehly looked at Potter's stats including no doubt his tactics, formations and xg, despite Brighton not scoring a lot of goals and I suspect that Boehly would have been looking at players that could turn that xg into actual goals and turn those Brighton draws and close margin losses into wins with the expected conversion rate.  Problem is it isn't working at the moment.  Based on what we've heard, this is a long term project and Boehly has set fire to the Bridge and basically tore the heart out of everything to start afresh...a new company start up if you like and there are going to be bumps along the way, but I am sure that the start that Potter has had maybe has Boehly 2nd guessing his stats. But would Potters stats be any different if he had walked into a healthy squad and not one decimated by injuries, regardless of the new signings since he came in.  My guess is they probably would be better than what we are seeing.  The injuries together with new players sure isn't making life easy for him, again all these are factors to consider when looking at some of the data sets.  Are we passing the ball more forward than we did under TT or Conte..probably, so the chance creation will naturally increase.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Potter as I think despite his stats which Boehly looked at, in my mind he's not got the experience to for a club this size. This is being thrown in at the deep end and he'd better show signs of improvement now more or less everyone is fit.  But you never know with Boehly, unless we are flirting with relegation he will rely on his stats and data to eventually show that Potter was the right choice....even if it takes a few years.

Sorry its a bit long winded...

If every person who had death threats got a bodyguard there would be not be enough bodyguards in this world.

And who's to say they're Chelsea fans as well? I'm not saying I agree with the death threats because I don't, at all, but can you imagine every manager or player at every press conference saying they get death threats or what sort of abuse they get on social media?

There was no need to reveal this to the public but Potter used this press conference to take the heat off him by saying 3 things.

1. Came in and started laughing about just being in a crisis meeting.

2. Blaming Tuchel and the pre-season for our current form.

3. Revealing that he and his family are getting death threats (This should have been kept and dealt with internally).

No doubt this was all pre-meditated. Some people will quote me and say "Hurr you agree with the death threats because of what you're saying!! You're a terrible person!!". When you're in a pressure situation at the highest levels of any field in any workplace and especially in a field where you need good PR, these things are all calculated, don't be too naive to think that they aren't.

I don't wish anything bad personally on Potter but I am waiting for the day he leaves, and obviously those that are making the threats need to be dealt with internally.

Ok this is what I'm getting from this chart. 34% of people cry when they get a flat top haircut, 14% of people have eyes in their ears and  baseball caps as part of their skin and 14% of people wear blue hoodies. Would help if you gave a little context mate but thanks it cheered me up😁.

If he manages to get a win this weekend, plenty of articles will be written about a man overcome adversity and hatred of certain vile fans. If he lose, same old again. He probably should be a bit careful commenting about the pre-season tour, granted we will do it again next season, with or against his wishes.
