Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

Well I never thought he would make it past Dortmund anyway so well done to him and shame on me.

Doesn't change my view on if he fits the bill to manage Chelsea though. He was selected based on the owners likes, not based on his competency and he has not achieved anything in his career to make me think he is the next big thing in manaagement or one with the ability to propel a big club to Laurels.

He might just fit the bill since the measure seems to be stability so enjoy a few stress free days GP.

As for me, heading to go dump a pile of cash at bookies that he won't be manager come start of next season. Wonder what kinda odds on that are out there.

Kane is  one of the best no 9 in PL but you sign kane if you are ready to win now. So far we haven't shown that we are only a 9 away from winning pl/cl.

Kane's style is one where he won't decline much with age, similar to Lewandowski. His finishing and link up play will still be sublime. He could still give us a top 4-5 years minimum.

I'd disagree, league performance from now until the end of the season is pointless.

I really disagree with this. How can it be pointless? we need to see some improvement to the team. We can't go into next season the same as we are now if results remain the same and the football doesn't improve. If nothing improves in the league for us, then what's stopping that from being any different next season? With the money we have spent, we can't afford to be finishing mid table or lower.

Without context it sounds bad, but when you figure in #new owners #new project #squad overhaul part 1 #winter WC #squad overhaul part 2, all that in the first 4/5 months.

No other manager has had to deal with so much turmoil in his first 4/5 months.

You missed out #appalling injury list Coco.

I cannot remember an injury list like we have had this season in all my time supporting Chelsea.

Yeah, it did affect us heavily those injuries, getting into the CL last 8 sort of proves that because the bulk of the injury spell happened in the break between the CL group stages and last 16.

Let's say every new player needs at least 10x90minutes (900 minutes) to be bedded in the system, side and club on average we are far away from the situation where we can expect the best football from all of them. Highly hypothetical and the number is just from my head which is just a number.

My point is we are only beginning to be a team with players that are somewhat settled.

Under here minutes played for first team this season from Hutchison 49 minutes to a 'settled' 1120 minutes Chilwell.

If we get to the CL final, then I don't care what our performances are like in the league.

Everything we do in the league is practice for the CL QF and hopefully then semi final.

But what that means is trying things out, but also a consistent team, it maybe means less games for players like Madueke and Badiashille. It means tactics that are consistent that might not be the best solution for teams who want to sit back.

Somewhat agree here, it should either be the CL final or top 6 as the expectation. Either one is alright.

And this is where I disagree with most of you. I put first the performance over what position or title. Had we dropped out of the CL, I would have been content because the two games were very good performances by the team. If we get to watch Chelsea play at a similar level until the end of the season, I’ll be happy going to the matches because I will know that the team will play well and make the effort on the pitch, and more often than not we’ll win. But results are irrelevant for me at this point, I want to see progress and that will be enough for me for Potter to continue. Obviously CL or top 6 (can’t we get top 4?) will be welcomed, but should not be the sole objective, if we do that but play boring sideways football and I would be hoping for a change of coach in the summer.

Proves that all this fancy new sports science and diets and prehabilitation is bunk. Players should just warm-up with a few pints at the pub, like the old days.

Did you ever see Kerry Dixon do stretches?

Agree. Potter is not a caretaker and there won't be a complete squad overhaul next season. So this season especially in the league is about Potter building the foundation for next season.

If we keep playing the way we played against West Ham, soton or spurs. What is the point continuing with Potter?

I didn't think we'd get past Dortmund so I'm reassessing my views on Potter.

He will have to learn on the job if he is to succeed.  Currently he has no experience of top European football or challenging for PL so we need to see improvement at times if not in every game. He's already used up a lot of credits as far as I'm concerned so this current improvement needs to continue.

After a performance like Tuesdays we should be on a roll and be beating teams like Leicester. We have the players and any loss of momentum would reflect badly Potter. We will see.

Was Tuesday because of Potter or despite him? I think our first Champions League title happened mainly because the players were so determined amongst themselves that they had to win. Maybe Tuesdays result happened for the same reasons.  I hope I'm wrong but I still feel that Potter isn't in control and that the players are doing this for themselves.

History indicates that the best teams have the best managers/coaches and I'm still on the fence about Potter.

Let's hope he is learning on the job and we get a good result at Leicester.

It's totally arse about face that he is doing very well indeed in the Champions League, but very average (being kind) in the Premier League. You'd think it would be the other way round, based on his CV/experience etc.

Our worst injury spell came in the break between the CL group stages and the last 16. Now we have the players back and match fit things are starting to pick up.

Let's hope we have genuinely turned a corner and that our winning run continues.

A few more goals would be nice.

City and Arsenal have scored 3+ 14 and 11 times respectively in the PL so far, vs our once. That's the benchmark if we want to be at their level to challenge for titles. I'd like to see us do that in at least a few games between now and end of the season.

Let's hope so, Away at Leicester City will be a test, always is.

I honestly feel that Potter is faced with a most difficult position with the number of roster players. He has to take a stand now and pick what he feels is the best XI and stick with it. Egos will be bruised but rotating a roster is not going to build and type of consistency.

Not so sure about this. I think apart from CL we don't have to chase results. We are not going to get 4th. I think it is better to bed players in like GP is doing instead of going full-Jose or Klopp and just play the same guys game in game out.

In long term we need the spine but we don't have to lock that down asap.

An interesting take but if there aren't results, will Boehly, et al, stick with Potter? I understand your train of thought but as you are well away, managerial futures are built on results.

And why not make a flying run at a European spot? Fourth would require a miracles but there still remains a realistic chance (if the planets align correctly) of getting one of those  other spots on the continent.

Is also not mentioned enough that Kante has not played even 1 minute for Potter.

With all due respect Kante being out has a greater impact than anyone else at the club imo. We feel the pain without Chilwell, James and Silva but Kante at the peak of his powers is something else.

Is like City without KdB, Pool without Salah, United without Casemiro, Spurs without Kane, Arsenal without Partley. Imagine that for a whole season, only City would cope, but I dont think they would be champions.
