It's the industry. There is a lot of money in the football industry and TV revenue is the pinnacle. These footballers attract viewership and these sort of TV deals will only increase significantly.

Hence why these players are paid ridiculously.

You're right , football is awash with money, but still most clubs struggle financially,t

Butthat revenue doesn't have to go mainly to players.

Reducing ticket prices with some of that money would benefit supporters .

And reducing TV subscriptions would help us.

I reckon the majority of footballers would still play football as their living even if their wages were reduced to a few grand a week.

And if they choose to abandon the game and become scientists, Architects, Biologists, etc ..well that's good for society too 🤣

Supply and demand.

Footballers get paid that much because of the product and what people willingly pay to view it. Goes down to my point of boycotting I've made a few times, if people are that outraged about boycott it because really we are part of problem aswell by willingly paying their wages effectively. And if they don't go on footballers they go in already billionaire owners pockets.

Not aimed at you but it really annoys me when footballer are made the scapegoat of this climate, ofcourse nurses should be paid more but some of these 'much loved' TV personalities (whom many of the people who moan about how "overpaid" footballers are have posters off in their room and hero worship) make most footballers look poor but they get a free pass.

Yes very true and I think one can like both your comment and the one it’s in response to (as I did). It really sucks but, as you say, we created this monster and could slay it in an instant. Of course we won’t.

Should Reece have been given £250k a week when he misses half of every season then spends a quarter of the season getting ack up to match speed? The precedent was set.

One person is too crucial to the system and will be sought after by plenty of top clubs. The other person's true value is workrate.

James is clearly more valuable

f**king hell , how absurd is the World when nurses are on a starting wage of 27K a YEAR and a student debt of 30 k to be repaid, and footballers are underpaid on 100k a WEEK ?

Mental

Can a nurse score a 87th minute bullet header against Neuer in a CL final though in his own back yard though?

The point is that the player could equally score that goal if he was on a nurses wage couldn't he ?. He doesn't have to be a multimillionaire to score ..

And I know which of those two are more important no matter how much I love football

Great goal though wasn't it ?

Would someone dedicate their entire childhood and freedoms in adulthood to train every free second for a 10 year career at £27k a year though? When something generates so much money like the premier league, movies or any company they have expendable cash to attract top talent. No different from someone like Tom Cruise getting paid millions to spend a year making a movie.

I'll never understand the argument footballers are paid too much, its just the way businesses work when a product attracts so many viewers.

I don't disagree mate. And thank God there are people dedicated to nursing who are  making a contribution to  our health and for society.

I was only pointing out that in my opinion it's an absurd world where this is the case. My comment followed comments about some of our players being underpaid on more than £100,000 a WEEK.

But I agree it's irrelevant to compare football and nurses, I only made the comparison because nursing pay is a topic right now.

Thanks for your reply

Feels like we're beating teams in spite of Potter, rather than because of him. The quality we spent 600m on is seeing us through, but the tactics feel unconvincing.

Never mind we aren't even winning anymore 😂

I am desperately trying to support him. Truly.

But with mistakes like today and not learning from them (Leeds) it makes it that more difficult to get on his side.

Yeah, I’m right with you. The not learning is the worst part of it, it worked just as poorly vs Leeds but we somehow got away with it.

He's so defensive it'd make Mourinho blush.

sh*ts his pants every time we take the lead and starts hooking the attackers for midfielders. We had five defenders on the pitch at home to Everton with a 1-0 lead and you feel the need to hook two out of three attackers and finish with a 5-4-1 formation. Absolute travesty.
