The long term solution is Nkunku though and that isn't possible right now. What would you suggest we do?

I think what he's getting at is that it's supposedly all about the future now with Potter & Boehly. That's what we keep hearing. Almost like it doesn't matter if we damn near get relegated as we have such a grand plan and will be fantastic in a year or two. Personally I have zero faith in that anymore with Potter at the helm.

And furthermore. If it was all about the future why invest £15 million in a player if this season doesn't matter as we keep hearing? We were prepared to pay Benfica about £90 million for Enzo. Surely if we were actually building for the future one would take the 15 million we just spent on Felix and add that to the 90 we were already prepared to pay for Enzo and therefore reach his release clause and bring in a player that will be here for more than 4 months.

Maybe we wait on Enzo till Simone takes over in the summer.

It still sounds like a short term solution for a manager that only performs in the long term.

Makes me think the injury to either or both Sterling and Pulisic is worse than the club is letting on.

I don't understand the purpose of buying up all these young 17-19 year olds for the youth team, but then signing 21-23 year olds for the first team.  Its not like you can have an understudy a couple of years younger than you.  Paying £100 million for Enzo only to block the path of the recently signed Santos, Casadei, Chukwuemeka, and any other centre mid we buy in the next 24 hours just seems pointless especially as we'll no doubt buy another young first team mid like Rice to block another pathway.

I pretty much chalked it off to being the first step towards the multiclub model. These players are just the right development profile for a club in France or Portugal. They are the kind of signings Benfica would make to turn a good profit or hopefully get them ready for the Chelsea first team.

Too late, we're not getting Enzo at all that train has passed a long time ago.

Aye maybe is more he covers us till Lukaku comes back from Inter, since he has been so sh*t there they are unlikely to keep him and nobody else will pay his wages lol

There was more noise regarding Enzo and then it ended in nothing. Will this be the same? I'm not particularly enthusiastic as I think that we need to address midfield first, our priority should be to get a strong midfielder and not getting more weak, attacking players.

I've lost interest in this market since the Enzo deal collapsed, genuinely believed he was Hazard/Kante level gamechanging.

The one that might peak my interest again is the Russian lad, and even that's only based on his metrics and what I'm hearing about him.

Lukaku will find a solution.

In this instance his big ego works in our favour, as said ego can't accept being a squad player.

Maybe, or if his body is screwed up he will just do a Bogarde and picket the money to sit at home.

if we aint got an option to buy, the only team preferring from this deal is Atleti, if he tears it up, his price will shoot up, and well be the suckers, for just taking him and his wages for 5 months, expensive loan ffs.....

After mulling over this for a day, I think this is a good signing. If we get James and Chillwell back and possibly Kante, Joao Felix in the team plus our other recent acquisitions can help us get far in the UCL and give us a decent end to the season.

Go far? We're winning it. That much is certain to me

In a weird way this is showing some forward planning.

We need a temporary forward to cover injuries (and maybe an exit if Auba goes) and instead of signing another expensive flop we hedge our bets and loan someone in, knowing we have some new players coming in the summer (Nkunku) and will have a recruitment team in place / better idea of what the team needs then.

The buy out clause would have been ridiculous anyway as Madrid bought him for over 100m and his still young. People talking like it would have been 50m.

They also need to be working on getting out players who clearly dont care, no matter how long they have been here for, even if it means loans.

Koulibaly, Aubameyang, Havertz,  Sterling and Ziyech for a start.

Cant see the point of this loan at all, reeks of a panic signing. Really does anybody on here expect this lad, who hasn't  done much for Atleti  in LA Liga and looked only ok in Portugal's failed WC campaign, to tear up the premier league with multiple goals and assists? Bottom line CFC is perhaps the only  prem club that would pay a large loan fee and cover all of his wages while Atleti are extending his contract to hedge their bets.

This has to be one of the most expensive loan deal if it happens. It's a pretty desperate move, although if it works Boehly and his crew will get the credit , if not it's down to the manager. We don't have any 'easy' cup games in ease him in, and with that much money spent you have to play him, expect him to be throwing into the starting 11 as soon as he's in. It's sink or swim time.

Its more hope than expectation, but I've never written a player off before hes had a game for us yet.

If The Fernandez deal is dead, as we all expect it is, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if we try to do a deal with Inter for Barella with Lukaku going the other way permanently. With them both here, you never know. There may well be a dynamism between them then that galvanises the whole midfield and attacking area. In isolation it looks inconceivable that Felix will be a blinding success, but again, in the right set up and an orgainsed structure he may do very well.

Well, looks like this has happened, he's in Cobham today.

There's enough negativity around everything Chelsea at the moment. Let's at least allow ourselves a few days of delusion that he'll come in, be great and solve all our creative problems, before we return to reality.

If he does work out and win us a bunch of matches it will be amazing, only to lose him once the season is over 😂

Excited to see him play, disappointed with the overall deal, just doesnt seem to have many upside to it, unless Felix somehow is the catalyst to us making top 4, which I highly doubt he will have that impact.

If he plays well, he will either stay at Atletico, or he will cost so much, we wont be willing to buy him with Nkunku coming anyway.

Or he plays sh*t, and weve just wasted another £20m.

3rd option is he does okay, and we loan him again for 12 months.

Cant be any worse than we have already, so hopefully makes the games more bearable for the rest of the season.
