October 25, 20223 yr Forgive me if I'm sounding too cynical but I'll start getting excited when we play this kind of football in the league.
October 25, 20223 yr Author You expect a better quality finish from a seasoned striker, not good enough from Auba.

October 25, 20223 yr We went through. Poor phase this first half, but after the goal we are playing great football. A shame that Auba and Havertz have been taken by the spirit of Werner.
October 25, 20223 yr Great from our front 2 so far eh? Havertz manages to hit the most delicate header right at thr keeper from 6 yards out, then be offside and block Aubameyang from getting to the ball. Aubameyang himself finally benefits from some good sterling and havertz play and cannot score right on HT.... Poor.
October 25, 20223 yr Why didn't we play like this against United and Brentford? Consistency is still one of this team's greatest weaknesses.

I don't think either one are playing too terrible, although I think they are playing higher up the pitch than natural WB's. My concern is more if they don't expose us defensively since neither are natural defensive players.

October 25, 20223 yr We play so much better in the Champions League and it's all because we are given so much more space to play. Teams in the Premier League just don't allow you to play this way and we can't cope with it. We don't have a team built to play well in both competitions. Edited October 25, 20223 yr by Scott Harris

October 25, 20223 yr Turns out Potter's team selection was not so insane after all. Took a while to get going but we're playing some good stuff. Really need to stop wasting chances though, I don't trust us not to f**k up and concede a daft goal.

Forced a good save from the keeper to be fair, not sure there's a huge amount more he could have done given the speed at which the ball came to him and the amount of space he had. A half of two halves there really. Initially the midfield were man-marked and spells of possession weren't really happening; the game was stodgy and attacking moves were truncated. One hilarious fluke from Kovačić opened up the game, and with the extra space the attacking combination of Sterling, Havertz and Kovačić down the left has really thrived, it's been great to watch. We've created a couple of big chances, hope we play some more sexy football and put a few more goals past them. Sterling is wasted at wing-back though, so is that other guy on the right, I forget his name.

But they're too deep to contribute much in the final 3rd.
