Surely the Poch Out brigade didn't imagine his successor would probably be a championship manager?

This is an absolute joke.

They certainly don't seem to have realised that Kieran McKenna spent more years at Tottenham than Pochettino did LOL.

I fully expect top 4 minimum from whoever the next manager is otherwise there was no point sacking Poch.

After the Arsenal thumping I was Poch out because I was upset and having a knee jerk reaction, but once I calmed down I realised that my position before the Arsenal game was correct.
My position before Arsenal game was sacking him would be stupid as there is no one else available who would make use better and judging by the end of season form that’s correct.

Poch would have been our best chance of getting top 4 next season and continue the progression.

We will be back to the square one and building again from the start the so called “Project” again.

Poch isn’t the end goal but he was the right person at this time to steady the ship.

All the names mentioned just scream Football Manager.

Yup.

Couldn't care less if we appoint McKenna or Enzo. Top 4 better be the minimum.

I’m going to throw a name into the mix, Glasner…

He is the flavour of the month just like Viera and De Zerbi were in their early premier league days.

Never thought Zidane would be a good idea, but at this point I think I'd take him over the options we have.

Didnt palace quote Bayern ridiculous money to buy his contract out. Cant see us being able to pay that, already sold 2 hotels and the training ground.😂

Doesn't speak a word of English and, more importantly, he's waiting for the France job after Deschamps goes.

Let's say we hire manager A. He want to play a style. He said I don't think Enzo, mudryk and Caicedo can play my football.

What next?

Almost zero chance of that. The club have a vision with these players, and the managers role is to get a tune out of them, and build a system that suits them.

It is far cheaper to change a manager than it is a squad full of players.  So the manager adjusts.

What does speaking English have to do with it?  Any signs of speaking English and the pure profit Gestapo chuck you in the back of a van and sell you to the highest bidder.

Which is why they probably should've done more to ensure he was happy to stick with us next season.

My position on Poch was always that I liked him, and that he was the best we could do considering the wider context. Keeping him in place until a) the squad was ready to take the next step, and b) a top candidate was available to help us take that step, was crucial.

The list of candidates doesn't fill me with hope, it's a lot of "can they step up and manage a big club" and "will they get time to implement their style", two questions I don't think anyone can confidently answer.

Tactically Poch kept things pretty vanilla, the focus was on getting our young, hastily assembled squad to play like a team. Honestly I think we'd be best served with someone who will do more of the same, and slowly introduce tactical tweaks/wrinkles as the team grows in confidence, trust, and ability. Who that candidate is I couldn't say though.

BOL LOCKS

If any manager doesnt want to be here, then they can jog on. We are CHELSEA. Dont forget that.

After a season where he failed to establish an identity, failed to coach the team to be able to defend a corner, and failed to get us out of the slow and stagnant backwards football - HE was the one who needed to convince the owners he deserved a 2nd chance.

Personally, I would have kept him - but not because of his performance. Only due to there being an underwhelming list of replacements.  But that doesnt mean the club should bend over backwards to "make him happy".   Jeez.....again, WE ARE CHELSEA. He was lucky to be here, and should be privileged for the chance to manage us.

Can't say I am loving this situation what with how much - it appears - is and will be dictated to the manager.

But at the same time I feel it's being a little over-dramatised. Managers having to mostly play the players they were given is more common than not - either due to who they inherit or, in some cases, with recruitment being decided by the board. Overhauls are rare.

Sure, one hopes they get a little freedom to (a) buy a couple of their own players and (b) not play a couple of unsuitable players - but overall, they play what they have. And this squad is not - overall - that bad. I can't imagine managers out there are looking at this squad and going "f**king hell, I'd need to completely overhaul this mess - this is unplayable".

So yeah, there might be some odd cases such as - reportedly - Mudryk, who the board are invested in, but a given manager might not want. Or cases where the board will force a sale of a wanted player (Gallagher). But overall - it's not that unreasonable  that a manager would be able to come in and get these players to play.

As much as I don’t want him, I’m pretty sure it will be De Zerbi. I dont want him but Hes certainly better than the championship managers that’s being rumoured.
