Been fairly solid when he’s gotten a chance. Good blocks at the end against Everton and tonight saved points.

Totally agree. While he may have his limitations, he is one of our more consistent defenders. He also offers an attacking threat for us from set pieces.

Um, can we talking about that defending for the first goal? He just lets Bowen get a free shot off.

Yeah you're right that was totally the reason we conceded, nothing to do with Colwill's hospital pass 🙄...

This goal is 100% Colwill's fault.

I would rather we talk about his excellent block at the death to keep us ahead, wouldn't you?

If you looked at the Colwill thread I already said it was a bad pass. I am not blaming the whole sequence on him.

Once the bad pass has already happened, Tosin has the chance to defend the resulting attack properly but instead backs off and lets Bowen shoot.

And yes that was a good block, I wish he had done something similar for the first goal.

Theres no way any blame can be allotted to Tosin on that goal, he was immediately on the back foot after an horrendous mistake and did well to get back to even pressure him.

He actually did really well to recover. Here's the goal, from about 20 seconds in.

He closes Bowen down very well but then just slows down/stops instead of trying to get a block in. Some will say he was blocking the passing lane to the other attacker but priority number one should be to stop Bowen, if he passes it then that's the RB's job to cover not yours.

Please bear in mind I am not blaming Tosin for this entire sequence. Colwill makes a very bad pass but it is not the end of the world and will happen regardless of who plays back there as it's part of the risk with this system. The resulting attack is still savable as the defence are mostly well positioned afterwards.

I think he is better than people think.

We kept 11 clean sheets in the PL and Tosin started in 7 of those games. Does seem to make Colwill play better too.

good stat - hadn't realised that. I suppose there is probably also an argument that Sanchez started most of them though - and he isn't good enough.

I actually like the fact that his first thought is usually a forward pass. He is always looking to break the lines.

Deserves credit. Tbh, I was happy with the signing from the get go. He always impressed me at Fulham. Good in the air, good pace for a CB. His pace is really underrated. Good at passing and as poster mentioned above, always looking to break the lines. He is really underrated and was very solid at Fulham and us getting him on a free is fantastic business. He has been very good since he stepped in.

Colwill and Chalobah have always looked better in my opinion and I think this stat is more to do with Chalobah only being here for 6 months.

Tosin is fine, I do think he switches off at times and his passing under pressure is normally questionable. Had the game of his life today so credit there.

Fair enough. I just put him that bracket with Chalobah as a squad player. We're Chelsea, so we expect the absolute best. Someone that can rival the likes of Saliba and VVD. I think Colwill has that potential and if not for injuries, Fofana too. Tosin for me is just very reliable and solid who doesn't have a ceiling to become World Class.

I think we have to look at it as a process of stepping stones to get back to a team of starters that can compete well for the top titles. I think players like Tosin and Chalobah might not be the end result of that process, but they can certainly be a big part of the journey.

Massively under rated player and the one with natural leadership qualities. Not world class and probably never will but I've enjoyed his style. Good purchase in every way.

Sorry but he lost his man in the United game and gave the ball away twice that I remember against Forrest just last game.

This is a really strange stat and must be something so specific it's not worth posting about.

Was about to say. Must be errors leading to goals, because I have a visual catelog of mispalced passes under zero pressure from Tosin.

That may well be true, however i would say that he is the only defender that we have whose first instinct is to look for the forward pass, look to break lines and look to advance us. This is where stats becomes bollox, which you have called out before as well @Sconnie Blue. I would rather see a CB looking to have a positive impact upon the progression and pattern of the game, than the human ironing board standing still with the ball at his feet until the opposition make a move towards him at which point he passes it sideways to the next player for him to deal with.

i do agree with @evissy (crikey where did that come from?) that he is an underrated player and whilst not elite is still a solid squad player to have.

I think that Tosin always plays better than the players that he is better than. I know that appears a bit reductive but i have seen many of our players who are measurably better than the opposition but just stoop to their level or have brainfarts for no reason. Look at some of the laboured performances against relegation fodder. I don't think Tosin does that. I think there is a limit to him so if he is up against a Haaland, a Kane, a Dembele, he's going to get torn a new one, but there is a whole catalogue of players that aren't at that level, that flatter to deceive and i think a player like Tosin doesn't drop to their level. Haaland he gets owned, but Hojland is in his pocket. Every time. He is consistent for the level that he is at, imo and that isn't a bad club to have in your bag to pull out when you need it.
