Think we'd all like to sign a guaranteed 20 goal a season striker but don't think it's going to happen.

We finished 4th with the brain dead incompetent neither right nor left footed Jacko leading the line!

So aside from Delap being cheap, he knows the coaching staff, he's played with Noni, Palmer and others from England U21.

So he's a good fit all round and good competition for Jacko or someone else.

Won't be surprised to see us sign another striker of similar stature and keep Jacko out on the wing - where he actually looks more comfortable.

Outside of having 10 fingers and toes there are no similarities between Delap & Jackson.

Delap grew up having one of the best available footballing educations from a young age, he’s physical without being petulant, his movement is smart and he creates space for others without being perpetually offside, he’s got a great relationship with the 2 most important people involved in this side.

Delap will do great things for us and makes me so much more comfortable for a Top 4 finish next season.

Okay then. I have absolutely no reservations then. Sounds like we will win the Prem next season.

We aren’t winning the Prem, Liverpool have a better squad/coach, as do Newcastle, City have a better squad at the least. But we should comfortably finish Top 4, I believe this signing propels us above Villa & Forest and at least draws us level with Arsenal.

I’m all for this signing.

But what gets me is we are continually told how good our academy is yet we have Lavia, Palmer, Tosin, and Sancho from the City academy getting regular minutes over our academy lads. When you consider we have also been chasing OReilly and will soon have Delap it shows that whilst we have the talent in our academy we are miles behind them in actually producing top, ready for the first team players. Our “starlets” very rarely leave us for the biggest clubs whereas they have produced loads.

and even the fingers and toes are different....

Jackson's are all knarly and grim....imagine the damage and grot of playing barefoot until 17yrs old!

I'm not sure our academy is as good as it was a few years ago, none of the youngsters that have had cameos look particularly promising

City seem to be producing most of the the best talents at the moment in the UK

The more I think about it, the more excited I am about Delap being our No 9.

Love the idea of having a bit of an old fashioned, English centre forward. I said earlier in thread that it would be great if he became our Alan Shearer, but I would be just as happy if he was our new Kerry Dixon.

Wasn't this version of the City academy second best to the Chelsea academy at the time, or have I got my year's wrong?

I think you might have your years wrong although have lost track to be honest. We had that period where we kept winning the FA Youth Cup but that seems like an age ago now.

Nostalgia's a funny thing, the Palmer-Delap generation was a couple of years after Reece's generation

There are still rumours about our interest in Gyokeres. If we were able to bring him in as well as Delap, that would be an incredible coup.

I don't see it. If Gyokeres joins, why would Delap join us to play understudy? And that, he would because Gyokeres will be starting every game to whichever club he moves and I am sure Delap would have been assured of game time before he joined, otherwise I am sure he would look elsewhere. Delap, I am sure is ok being rotated but it is hard to fathom us buying Gyokeres and thinking Gyokeres will be a rotational striker.

TalkSPORT were saying today that it should be completed tomorrow. He’s done part of his medical today and other part tomorrow with final contract stuff being sorted tomorrow.

I just hope he works out and actually scores. I’m tired of us not having a proper striker than can score goals. It’s poor that over the last 20 years, our only successful/world class strikers have been Drogba, Costa and maybe Anelka. Pretty poor.

Wears #19 at Ipswich, which currently resides with Sancho at CFC (that could change if we send him back to United)

#9 shirt is of course available ! I hope he has the confidence to take that before our hierarchy do something stupid like giving it to Jackson LOL
