So Utd have signed Fernandes. Spurs have signed that lad from PSV, and are also looking at another striker. Meanwhile, we are no nearer bringing anybody in. This is frustrating, it happens almost every season. Why does this club never learn?

Can't believe people think Giroud should be our second choice to Tammy. We like to press and Giroud moves like a snail.

Or it could be that our targets aren't available this window (Sancho, Werner etc) and we don't went to end up with dross like we previouly have gone for.

Fernandes to Utd is probably the best deal done so far as he could potentially give them vital goals and assists, early days though.

Agree, Giroud isn't mobile enough for our style of play, that lack of pace really kills our attack (which isn't amazing as it is), so we need someone more clever and mobile with an eye for goal. Short term that could be Cavani or Mertens, and then move for Werner in the summer.

Would you prefer signing the sort of mediocre player that is available in January, just for the sake of signing someone? Most cool, calm and collected members of this forum have pointed out again and again that marquee signings or hidden gems (as if they're so easy to find), are hardly ever available in January. And please don't anybody mention Van Dijk again, he's been touted as the the only exception a bit too often now.

Some Italian outlets claiming Napoli have asked for 30m+ for Mertens. 😅  ADL does have a sense of humour. 

Its been reported now that we've given up looking for a replacement and Giroud is staying

Paco Alcacer has gone to Villareal for 20m.

Go all in for Villarreal's Gerard Moreno I say, wouldn't surprise me if his value rockets at a bigger club in a couple of years. Must have something about him if he's selected for the Spain squad.

I get your point about the press but we can only press teams who attack us and want to move the ball. The press was useless against Newcastle,westham, Bournemouth because they parked the bus and just kicked it long to escape the press. In those situations giroud would have been a better choice because you don't need speed to beat a parked bus ,you need a presence in the box...

      Besides all that press talk is overrated. Giroud started and scored in our super cup final loss to Liverpool with a goal on the counter. He starts for France and of course they press the ball.  The fact of the matter is that he is an all round better striker than Batshauyi.. watch him BALL for spurs if Jose gets him..

France have scorers on the wings. Mbappe and Griezmann running off Giroud, what wingers do we have on their level if Giroud manages to win the flick on?

Liverpool, City, Barca, Madrid etc. Top teams playing attractive football don't use target men anymore.

So I guess if we had the chance to get Harry Kane we should not.lol.. just pulling your legs. I am not saying Giroud is great, my argument all along was that he was better than batshauyi.. hopefully we replace them both with quality strikers in the summer.. 

Also we have Pedro who has scored lots of goals with flick ons for giroud but lamps benches him also.

That wasn't my point. You said there's nothing to buy except over-priced dross. So either all those players are crap or you went a bit OTT with your statement.

As far as the actual signings go, each club have their own needs and positions to fill/strengthen. How well the new players will do only time will tell, but I'm not prepared to call Spurs or MU transfers dross just because we signed nobody. We knew what our issues were and failed to address them, the rest is just speculation from fans.

Time to close this section off until the summer it seems. Hopefully the board are understanding towards the management team should we miss out on top 4.

Yes it does. Lampard asked for signings to make up for the lack of transfer activity last Summer. Not necessarily first choice targets. But a couple of signings to deepen the squad, add more experience. Take the pressure off Abraham specifically. The Board had several weeks to bring in at least one option. To support Lampard. It was a test. And they couldn’t manage it. Says a lot about where we are as a club and where the Board are in relation to the manager. Really doesn’t bode well. 

Just as a manger gets the sack based on results, so too should heads roll on our board.

This lack of urgency and meaningful activity has happened too many times now.
