Gary Cahill - PL CL FAC LC EL champion

Featured Replies

Interesting how he turned to be a hero after the United game and he has be slated by our own fans for weeks. As i said he was never brought to the club to be a starter, he is a good player but not World Class material. I like him, he is a fighter he does his job most of the time and i really think he grew fond of Chelsea as a club. I'd start Zouma and JT ahead of him, since Zouma is younger faster and has loads of potential, JT because of his experience and commanding skills, Luiz only because he has a bit more to his overall game but they should have equal chances of starting. Glad he turned a corner of bad spells and hopefully he continues his rediscovered form.

There is no room for Terry starting in the current setup unless it's a dead game/cup tie. You need decent pace across the backline. I don't think Cahill is great at all but he makes sense given the players available to Conte. I've grown quite fond of him actually. He's a solid squad member who always gives 100%.

Looking good again, I think Luiz takes a lot of responsible and allows Cahill to have more freedom. Cahill does a good job, he's one of our reasons for the clean sheets.

I noticed that he has picked up the pace of his passing now too, it's the same with Matic. Before the change in formation, both Cahill and Matic were taking too long to get things moving which was slowing down our attacks and causing them both to make mistakes, they aren't doing that anymore though.

Said a nasty thing about you today in the match thread.  Didn't deserve it, you are a Chelsea player after all so I apologize.

next time though I'd like you to use your left foot!

Forget the own goal, the moment where he let Aguero in was Cahill at his worst, and we've seen it a few times, although not recently. It was madness on his part, waiting for Courtois to come, completely unaware of the danger of the situation, a totally unnecessary risk but he's totally uncomfortable on his left foot, so he hesitated. Yes he got back and kicked it off the line and for that I'm grateful.

Cahill didn't see Aguero there. Luiz made mistakes today too. Two very poor defensive headers and the foul on Aguero in the 1st half when Apzi mis-controlled he was lucky to get away with. Things like that will happen against top class attacking sides like Citeh. The positive things they both did today, often under real pressure, far out-weighed the mistakes

On his day a solid defender and he's been very good at times this season, he's been a great servant to the club. We signed him for 7 million and I think it's safe to say, he's repaid that, he's easily exceeded expectations. However, his mistakes have undoubtedly increased and he has looked uncomfortable on a few occasions, it's a question of, can we stengthen in the market? Or do we wait until next season and play either Christensen or Ake in this position? Whether I appear fickle or not, that's my opinion.

Blaming GC for the goal we conceded against City is way too harsh.

He is not the best CB out there, but he can do his job better than most.

I think he should be here next year, as a 4th CB behind DL/Zouma/Azpi.

We should let go off JT and iva before even thinking of selling GC who despite some mistakes, has been quite good this season.

For me Zouma should come in for Cahill when he's back fully fit. He's got the pace and athleticism which Cahill is lacking and I'm sure working with Terry and the others day in day out for the past year or so will have nothing but a positive effect on his positoning and tactical awareness.

i'm worried because cahill got the captain armband now he becomes somewhat untouchable at least until a disaster happen like with ivan finally dropped only after we got humiliated by arse

don't get me wrong he has been solid since we went 3 at the back but last week's game showed he's still prone to errors and lost of concentration. if zouma's fit to play than he should play. it's part of the recovery to play in an actual competitive top flight football

to be fair, those 2 factors ain't the problem for cahill.. if anything, it's actually those 2 factors that made people think gary cahill is 'quite good'

If it has then he's failed to show it so far.

He hasn't played for about a year.... He could have spent that whole time learning and improving on that side of his game.

True and he's still only 22 years old, bags of potential.

Jamie Redknapp:

"Chelsea are crying out for a left-sided centre-back," Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail.

"Gary Cahill has done well there this season but the position does not come naturally to him.

"The reason he scored his own goal at Manchester City on Saturday was because he went for the ball with his right foot rather than try to clear Jesus Navas’ cross with his left."

There's still so much to be excited about this time. Young core and good coach!

Is it just me or are people quick to jump on a player when they make a mistake or two? Players are gonna make mistakes it's part of the game.

Quick?  They are faster than the speed of light!!  One minute a bloke is a legend, a hero, the saviour of a game, and the second he puts a foot wrong he is slated as the worst player we've ever had!

Cahill is a legend, scored some very important goals and saved us from many potential losses and draws.

A bargain buy that has served us so well.

Anyone talking him down, put your head in an oven.
