The John Terry Appreciation Thread

Plus love the fact JT is sticking up for himself, name checking Savage against who JT obviously admires as players was surgically done, would of destroyed savage on the pitch, remember Savage was a dirty dirty player.....

Pundits can dish out digs consequence free.

Nice to see a player having a dig back.

Humanises JT a little more.

I agree, that wasn't my issue with the comment.

I suppose it could seem that JT is commenting negatively about what one might call 'journeyman' players. Savage didn't have a bad career as such. He gained a reputation as a dirty player and was and is a self-publicist.

As a pundit, he's honest and he'd probably accept that players he criticises are not always going to take it.

Share your sentiments remodez. Terry was wrong calling him out like that, because he didn't have an illustrious career? Bet if he retired at utd or pool, he wouldn't have. No matter how wrong savage is with his opinions, he's only doing his job as a pundit.

I fully agree with Terry's conclusion which is to ignore Savage but you don't need to have had a successful career to be a good analyst.

This is why I said I hope it was said more as a dig just to annoy pundits like Savage, cause let's face it he is a bellend at times, rather than a serious opinion he holds seeing as he's working for a manager who didn't have a successful career himself and is now one of the best managers in the world.

I actually don't mind Savage because at least he states his opinion rather than most boring, media savvy pundits. He's alright.

Most of the times I don't mind him, probably cause I don't really consider him a proper pundit. He's mainly just there to give a player's insight into the life of a footballer and to be the butt of jokes.

But on the other side, in terms of criticism from a fellow/former pro who performed at a much lower level, you don't expect the top heart surgeons to care about criticism from some no name doctor, do you? What about a top-firm name partner lawyer getting criticized by some no name associate in a small firm, would you expect the former to care?

Ya Savage is paid to do a job, but if you're like Terry and have operated as one of the best in the world at your chosen profession then you don't have to take much heed of someone who was relatively run of the mill. I don't think Terry said Savage has no right to an opinion, just that he doesn't really care about it. What's wrong there?

would love drogs, lamps and terry to have roles at the club together; would be amazing for team morale and motivation.

I'm waiting for there to be an announcement for the new manager. The camera then shows JT and Lamps at the table, who then engage in a game of rock paper scissors. The winner is the manager; the loser is the assistant.

I remember Robbie Savage when he was a player digging out a TV reporter in a post-match interview saying;  'you've never played the game', 'you don't know what you're talking about if you've never played at this level' etc etc. So it's an argument Savage is already familiar with because he's used it himself.

So Savage should just have said: JT did a great job there.

Savage can criticize as he likes, and he should have that freedom. Those he criticizes should also have the freedom to ignore him or even fire back with criticism and ridicule him.

This is the thing, Terry didn't actually say savage couldn't criticise him, he just said he wouldn't listen to criticism from a talentless no mark like him. As usual its been taken out of context and twisted to suit agendas.

Savage has tried to have a dig back at JT in his newspaper column.

The fact it's taken over half a week to retort means it's all a bit sad from Robbie.

That he felt the need to respond and stick up for his career means JT's comments worked.

If you're referring to this, I actually thought he made some valid, fair and honest points. It wasn't attacking or vengeful even though it could have been.

Even if he didn't want to write an article the Mirror would have pressured him to.
