Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Fair point but the rest of the team have been awful so when I say he’s been the best player, I don’t mean to say he’s had a steller game but I think he’s done well under the circumstances. ‘Really well’ was probably a bit strong!

Ha ha, yeah a bit strong. Terrible display all round though, Eric dier had possibly the worst game by an England midfielder since Charlton palmer.

He is so incredibly raw.

Honestly I would prefer us to use mason mount next season, but I don't think that will happen.

There is definately a player in there with RLC, hopefully he fills his potential, but it's hard to see where his best position would be.

For me he's just lazy on the pitch and that's not gonna fly for Sarri. We'd get punished on the pitch if he moves around like that.

I thought Modric was quiet first half and in the second was given a free role by Croatia moving a defender into midfield. In the second half he did very well yet our midfield players run out of steam.

Southgate appeared to make errors here instead of shoring up our midfield he swapped Henderson for Dier.

I agree England lacks a good controlling midfielder and Henderson is probably our best.

I thought Southgate did well to get us to the semis.

Especially as Alli, Sterling and Lingard were bl00dy woeful for pretty much the whole tounament

Ross Barkley will outshine RLC this season.

I think he will too. Ross Barkley is more explosive and more suited to the Premier League than Loftus-Cheek. Loftus-Cheek has talent, but i have been getting the impression for a while now that he only plays at one pace, a bit like Ozil. I keep waiting for Loftus-Cheek to go up a few gears but it never really happens. If his team are winning, drawing, losing, need a last minute goal, he's still going to play at the same tempo.

The lads cut short his holiday by a week to come back early and train. Wise choice.

He's seen what an arse Bakayoko is making of himself in pre-season matches and knows if he impresses now he's in with a shout of regular football this season now we'll be playing a 3 man midfield.

Good lad, what about Cahill? He’s barely played at World Cup and tbh I’m surprised he’s not back yet. Great captain material...

Cahill has a family so in truth his first loyalties at this time must and should be to  his family

Cahill did indeed only have limited playing time at the WC but he was still with and part of the squad for the whole tournament and that on the back of a season that was one week longer than most due to our involvement in the FA cup.

Goodness, allow him his 3 weeks holiday. He has done the extensive training during the WC, his body needs rest, he's not a young pup anymore.

I hear Azpilicueta had a date-night with his missus one night last year when he could have been practising keepy-upeys. Calls himself a professional...

Cahill isn't going to be that important to how we play out from defence, so doesn't matter much if he's back early or late tbh.

Good on him for returning early. Shows a great level of commitment at a time in his Chelsea career when he has a genuine chance to break through into the team.

Give him a good chance to make a good impression on Sarri, especially when we've been constantly linked to signing midfielders this summer.

Could now get a few minutes against Arsenal in Wednesday's friendly and also play a part in the Community Shield at the weekend before he was even due to report back. Could be a smart move on his part coming back that week earlier.

Oh grow up.

The man is entitled to a few weeks holiday with his family.

While i admire Rubens commitment i think he's made a mistake here. I remember a few years ago i read an article from a sports physiologist saying professional players players need a minimum 3 week break for physical and especially mental wellbeing, and before anyone counters me saying he barely played he was still part of a squad that trained every day and had football on their mind 24/7. Players are human, they need some downtime where football is a mere afterthought if even that.

Schurrle returned early in 2014 and was tanked by October.

This will be a huge season for Ruben, at his age he has to play regular and on the back of a good world cup he will have expectations of himself. If he left it till Aug 5th he would have only 3 days to impress the new boss before he gets shipped out.

There's an argument he hasnt played much at all in 2018.

But he's had to be match ready all that time, including the WC. There is much to be said about the point Argo made. If I had only 3 weeks holiday and cutting even that short, I would not last long, and my physical exercise is walking to the coffee machine and the printer occasionally, under hardly any pressure.

Valerie why is that, job stress?

Another point on player R & R, isn't this the first season with a winter break?

If you're gonna ride Cahill, why aren't you saying anything about Batshuayi, Kante, Hazard, Courtois etc for not showing up early? Because shouldn't they all want to get as much time with the new manager as well?
