Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

There was yesterday a piece of news in the Spanish sport newspapers (and mentioned this Telegraph source http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/09/07/chelsea-will-rival-any-manchester-united-move-for-atletico-madri/) suggesting that Manchester Utd, and more specifically Mourinho, were going to go for Griezmann and would pay as much as it costed. They mentioned that Chelsea was going to try to get him as well, since we had been interested in him since his time at Real Sociedad. We would even pay the €100m out clause if necessary and offer Costa in the deal. I guess that if Atlético is banned from signing until 2018, they won't be selling Griezmann as they can't get any replacement, and we will keep Costa next season.

If a team pays his buyout clause AM can't stop him from leaving even during the transfer ban.

Griezmann has a boot deal with Nike?? :blush2:

Edit: it turns out in fact, he doesn't - he has a deal with Puma :face_palm:

France and Atlético have a kit deal with Nike though?? :blush2::laugh2:

Atletico's transfer ban held up and they won't be able sign any players for the next two windows.

Hopefully means my boy Diego is here for another two season yet.

Hopefully another season for Hazard too

The transfer ban wont affect outgoing transfers I dont think, as its actually a registration ban in reality. Both madrid clubs cant register any new players for the 2 years I think, but they can sell. they can actually buy players but cant register them, just as Barcelona did last season with a couple of players.

They are appealing to CAS so might be overturned yet.

Barcelona's wasn't, do not see their case as any different.

I read the link. The author says Drogba could rarely be accused of not trying, I agree. Unlike Costa for a large part of this season. And whilst Drogba did hit the ground too easily at the start of his career he was never involved in the pointless niggly, nasty, wind-up incidents that Costa gets himself embroiled in practically every game. That isn't leadership.

And I accept the two games you offered are matches where Costa may have played well and scored goals, but they are not anywhere close to being a game he totally dominated and won on his own. That was what Drogba did against West Ham that day and with the title on the line and the circumstances involved, down to ten men and a goal behind early in the match, give it an entirely different context.

You were saying, Just... ;)

He was brilliant today, he deserves to be celebrating a win, and he would have if we had a ref who could do his job properly. How many times did Amat foul Costa ? must have been 3, and this was after already being on a yellow card.

Did you see how angry Costa was at the end that we drew? Love the man.

What about the one he missed then? Not exactly a difficult chance. Drogba was flawless in the example I gave. And we only had 10 men that day.

Look Costa played well today but he is still nowhere near Drogba in terms of sheer ability and consistent delivery in the big games. And at some point he is going to get sent off, and he will cost us.

The papers are going to crucify him tomorrow for another alleged dive. I had to drive down to Winchester straight after the game today so on the 2 1/2 hour drive I got to listen to all the radio phone ins. Fans and journalists going mad raving about Costa diving and how Courtois should have been sent off, but not a peep about the outrageous double foul on Cahill for Fer's goal! The only pundit who said it was clear foul was Ian Wright.

Yet another performance that makes the notion that he is a clumsy brute without finesse and brilliant ball control laughable.

He was turning those CBs inside and out all afternoon.

No one doubts he can finish but Costa does lack ball control and runs into defenders. One game doesn't change that.

35 goals in 58 games is very impressive, and i remember one of those games he only played 10 minutes before having to go off injured, he could have got close to Shearer and Cole if he didnt have injuries in his first season and we wasnt such a mess last season!

He's just relentless! He'll do everything to win, such a warrior.

it means ~0.6 goal per game. it's amazing he still able to reach this number even after last season's comedy. imagine if last season never existed
this is why it always baffles me when someone says he's an average striker (he's not)

Different jungle, same beast. Respect.

Costa was one of the players who made last season what is was so don't gloss over it. Who came back overweight? Who decided to stand on the left wing? Who threw his bib at the manager? You can't make out last season wasn't his fault when it was everyone's.
