Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

Lots of comments here about disappointment with the fee. Come on guys, Costa isn't the type of player to go for a world record fee. He is bloody good when he wants to turn it on but for me whilst he can deliver, i can name 5 strikers(excluding gods Messi and Ronaldo) that could get £76m being quoted before he does. He's got too much baggage and for a player to give you 3 years and still double what we paid for him when being sold on i would say we should be laughing. I'm happy for him, he may get criticised by a lot for moving to china and rightfully so but for what he's achieved in the game at his age of 28 he hasn't had any big money moves compared to his contemporaries. Imagine chelsea was his first proper money move as Atletico paid something like slightly over £1m when they got him. I wish him the best wherever he ends up. He will always be one to divide opinion, but he can be very lovable when he wants to.

I'm not so sure about China, I read the club he was recently linked with were looking at buying one of three players (sales talk?). That might be Costa or perhaps someone else. I suspect it will be Costa.

Both Lukaku and Costa often do not get good service.

Interestingly Fabregas is one of those players that can provide those killer balls to the CF yet because of their weaknesses do not play so often.

So if we buy Lukaku will he get the service here?

Or do we need an upgrade in midfield both creatively and also as a general box to box midfielder too?

Lukaku got service from Hazard, De Bruyne, Carrasco and Mertens at the Euros and didn't produce, the no service comment what people like to say Is a myth.

Besides Conte doesn't want him, he doesn't fit the profile of an Antonio Conte striker, Lukaku is lazy and doesn't press well at all, that's probably the main reason why Conte barely uses Batshuayi, his work rate isn't enough for Conte and Lukaku is no different, Morata and Belotti are the strikers id imagine Conte will want it's probably only Emenalo who actually wants Lukaku.

The body language between Conte and Costa as they walked past each other at the end if the Everton game wasn't good. I now think he's going at the end of the season and I have mixed feelings about it. He's been our best striker since Drogba, not that the competition was fierce! It was particularly noticeable when he came on in the cup match against Spurs when he upped the tempo considerably.

Drogba didn't look the complete player when he first arrived at Chelsea.

Kinda true. Drogba scored 16 in 40 despite two months out with a serious injury. We won the title for the 1st time in 50 years and he was a massive, massive part of that. We scored a record number of goals from midfield because we finally had a centre-forward who could 1; win the ball in the air. Practically everytime. 2; could hold the ball up. 3; was an unselfish team player prepared to work at closing down all over the pitch. Before Drogba we had JFH and points 1,2 and 3 didn't apply.

But you're right. He got even better and Diego Costa isn't, and never has been, as good as Drogba's shadow.

Oh, and he scored the winner in the League Cup final against the Mousers in that first season.

This is a point Ive found myself arguing several times. Allthough clearly important, theres more to being a striker then just scoring goals.

end of the day the board will decide with conte on who is best. i just hope when we sign players this summer conte won't be gone by next summer otherwise our new signings will be in vain.

Was that a wave goodbye? I thought maybe someone in the crowd it was meant for.

Regardless his job is nearly done, win the title and he can leave with my best wishes and 70 odd million in the bank!

I'm not so sure it was. If he was going to wave goodbye then surely he would do it in the last game of the season at the Bridge.

For a player who has been "sh*t" since January he's still scored twenty goals for us this season.

Having a striker who gets twenty goals is pivotal to winning titles and Diego has come up with the goods again. I'd love for him to still be here next season.

Doesn't look like a genuine waving goodbye to me lol, more like he either spotted someone or it's a sarcastic waving goodbye in response to media reporting he's already agreed a move

He has scored the most first goals in the league this season, that's how important he has been.

Change the record pmsl, you sound so bitter. Did Lukaku refuse to give you an autograph when you were a child or something?

Its already been said that Lukaku has scored more goals against the 'big' teams this year than Costa.

Bitter about what? Is Lukaku your idol or something? I am talking facts. Costa hasn't  stat padded and Lukaku has, why does that fact upset you?

I am assuming by stat padding you mean scoring against lesser opposition and not the bigger teams? Even though Lukaku has scored more goals against bigger teams, whilst being part of a worse team.. Strange that.

No that's not what stat padding is. :laugh2:

I think he meant stat padding by scoring the 3rd goal etc since it was in response to Diego scoring the most opening goals.

Like how Kalou would always score the 4th goal onwards in the 09/10 season making him look a lot better than he was.

I find that very meh tho. No one remembers goals like that.

Please enlighten me then. I don't speak football twitter hipster lingo.

To dumb it down for you it's basically scoring when a game is already won or lost usually late on, basically scoring a meaningless goal.

Costa's goals have won his team more points than any other player in the PL, Chelsea would be struggling for top 4 without Costa's goals, Everton on the other hand would still be 7th without Lukaku's goals

Well i apologise for never having heard that term before today.

Having said that, Costa is almost certainly gone in summer. Lets hope Lukaku can carry on from where Costa leaves off next season and score those goals that are handed to him by Cesc.

He was utter cat piss last night I thought, scored a goal yes, but we had a tonne of attacks created by hazard and pedro that broke down because he has the touch of a rapist and cannot dribble. I'll have mixed feelings if he leaves this summer, but if we get a replacement who has better ability on the ball, a lá Morata, i won't shed too many tears
