Alvaro Morata

You moving your snidey hate-posts away from Willian to Morata now?  or are you filled with sufficient bile that you can multi-task on the abuse?

How fickle and spoilt some people are.

Oh come on no need in that Yorkley, it's a fair critique, we're all Chelsea supporters here.

Costa would never miss a game due to back back and tiredness. Don’t get me wrong I like Morata, but he seems like a massive wuss compared to Costa.

Costa had far more injuries than Morata. He only played 24 games in the first season due to injuries and suspensions and in the second season, he had half of it off for whatever reason. Same again with the third season. He wasn't injured as much but his performances post January last season were very very poor.

True, just some are a bit more abusive to our players than others.

I think every team has their scapegoat and it only really happens when the player has been with us for over a season or two, so Willian is the scapegoat.

I wouldn't care I think he's actually been better than Pedro this season yet Pedro seems to escape more criticism than Willian.

And he would 'pace himself' ie be missing in the game save for a few moments in attack, hell Costa can only give 100% for half a season.

Have you ever played any sport or went to the gym despite not feeling right? You might as well not be there.

A perfect example is Eden being forced to play in 15/16, he was ineffective until he finally got a few weeks rest.

The Eden season was after he had been playing every minute and 50-60+ games a year for the past 6 years.

My worry with Morata is that he hasn't exactly had an incredibly demanding schedule over his career and we aren't even half way into the season yet. Hopefully its just his body getting used to being more than just an impact sub like he was at his other clubs.

Is that really what is a bookable offence these days?

If the booking is for the goal celebration routine then it needs to be rescinded. If it was some kind of political statement fair enough, we can't have that going on, but a personal message to his expectant wife ??? give me a break ref !!!!!!

I didn't see his entire celebration, because i was busy doing it myself, but it was discussed in match topic. Apparently he threw the ball away from Bour' players or smahed it up on the ground, dunno.

Anyway, Gosling didn't deserve it too, but got booked, so another scandalous refereeing.

Some of the posts on here are bizarre.

We've seen how Klopp has rotated in recent weeks because of how jaded his players are. City & Arsenal all rotated midweek along with United whilst we played full strength against Atletico. If he started tonight and put in a poor performance due to fatigue, people would be lambasting Conte for picking him and Morata for playing poorly.

Footballers these days are athletes and unless you're in peak physical condition like Ronaldo then you will get injuries & niggles. He'll be back for the Southampton game, there's no issue for me.

I have just seen this and the topic of conversation, it seems people think players should be immune to tiredness (be it mental or physical) because they earn loads of money, it's quite bizarre and dare i say ignorant notion.

Maybe today's result against Everton would have been different if Morata behaved like an adult against Bournemouth. His moaning attitude towards opposition players and refs is starting to get annoying.

Absolutely agree. His booking against Bournemouth was completely deserved. Instead of running off celebrating at his last minute goal, he grabs the ball off a Bournemouth player and tucks it under his shirt, as part of his pre-planned celebration. He runs back towards his own half with the ball still under his shirt when a Bournemouth player quite reasonably asks for the ball. This is the last minute and he should just give him the ball. Instead he refuses, so the Bournemouth player takes matters into his own hands, at which point Morata petulantly and stupidly kicks the ball away. How anyone can defend him is a mystery. He knew he had been rested with today in mind, he knew he was on four bookings already. He put himself before the team.

He has more bookings than Costa did by this time last term. Think about that. Costa had played every game as well whereas Morata's missed loads. Morata shouldn't be getting booked at all, because he's not a physical or confrontational player. His bookings are always the result of petty vendettas, like his booking at West Brom, when he tripped Yacob, when we were 4-0 up. Conte needs to have a strong word with him. Today he cost us 2 points.

If anyone wants to know where the blame lies for the points dropped today, they need look no further than Morata. Conte had to change his plans and play a front 3 with Pedro and Willian, both of whom had played most of the game barely two and a half days earlier. I'm absolutely fuming about it.

A suspicious mind may wonder if he wanted that booking as Alonso did in our last league game.

Alonso, for the benefit of the team, did something I don't personally like to see or agree with. Morata rather conveniently misses a cold trip to Merseyside giving him more time off before Christmas. Coincidence?

Yacob deserved it. He purposely tries to injure players all the time.

Agree with the rest of your post though. Morata is a top player but needs to get his act together.

This lad is one of the best headers of the ball that we have had in years, seems to hang in the air at times, and really rate that aspect of his game...

....which makes his "issues" when he has time with the ball at his feet even more of a mystery.   A world beater when the ball is put on his head, but comes across as a scared bottler when given time in the box.

Alvaro. When one on one, hit the bloody thing and put it in the net! Stop fart arsing about and over thinking the finish over and over again....drill the ball past the keeper, take it early if needed, bit whatever, stop being so scared to miss!

He's very Spanish with his finishing. Spanish players love a side footed pass into the goal, he needs to just smash them in now and again instead of trying to side foot it under the keeper.

Torres type finishing at the minute. Some days he does it, some days he doesn't.

Alvaro shoulda had a word with this fella after the game in how to play the centre forward role.

i hope he's saving up his footed goals for arsenal lol. i would hope he stops going down so easy though. it's not the same as drogba, but when drogba came he would go down easy and even dive, but eventually he improved that aspect of his game.

I wanted him to stay on but then thought, you know what, he had his chances.

Good.

Let him spend the next few days with that on his mind.

He should now come out very hungry against Arsenal.

Missed 2-3 sitters, but this is one of those games we didn't need him in form to win it, so I'm happy to let it slide. He's far more comfortable attacking crosses, again, we didn't need that to win this game.

The difference is that when Didi had a sniff, he bullied defenders. Morata has no such side to his game.

Anyhoo the boy just needs time. There are some things I really love, he reads the game really well. But there is some way to go to being a top striker, and even to match the man he replaced.

I'll give him some benefit of the doubt, as he was running at the keeper from an angle, and there isn't that much to aim at, if he was straight down the middle,'d give him 0 for effort

His finishing was poor but his movement was very good. Those chances don't just come his way by accident. His movement also creates a lot of space for his teammates, namely Willian and Pedro today. I don't mind a striker that misses chances, I mind a striker that doesn't get chances. Morata may not be the best in the world but he'll always score goals and he'll always contribute to the team through his all-round play.
