Jose Mourinho thread

Featured Replies

Tbh I see City,  Arsenal and Liverpool more attacking and a team which is better on the eye.

Chelsea are good to watch in a organised counter attacking way but I don't really find this Chelsea great to watch but being great to watch doesn't guarantee trophies.

You need to be able to grind out results,  win when your playing rubbish etc.

I just looked up their form on Statto.com they are unbeaten in 14 and on their best run for 8 years.

I'm impressed that you got anything at all back from that website ... I used to use it all the time, but for two years now it has just returned a white screen. Their facebook page is awash with users who want to know where they have gone !

Ofcourse it was a dig at us, it must be killing him what's happening at Chelsea this season and this is (another) attempt at putting a stop to it.

Did Jose mention us again? I saw the headline, but didn't notice he mention us specifically. I aren't going to get riled up everytime Jose says something rude or stupid. When was the last time a Jose team is out of the title race at the start of the February in a season he didn't get fired? The man is trying everything to justify what he has and hasn't achieved

Which is a dig at the press and pundits, specifically NOT a dig at us!  FFS, people!

He'll have it put right by next season. He has always won the league everywhere he's been in the second season.

We'll have a proper fight on our hands then.

But I hope I am wrong :D

Yes we played counter attacking football under Mourinho and we still do now under Conte, however there are huge differences between the two teams. As Nibs pointed out Mourinho would take a 1-0 and 'park the bus', under Conte he always wants more and goes for a kill. I could see why many people in the press would have seen it as anti-football under Mourinho yet enjoy the displays from Conte.

Although I found the 04-06 team very enjoyable to watch, I can understand why neutrals prefer this team. This team is capable of finesse, and cleverer interplay, and attacks and defends as a whole and has so much more energy overall. I don't mind "parking the bus" but like some others have said, not one time has this team "parked the bus". The general mentality is less fearful.

While I don't think Jose said anything here to displease us, I do feel that he is being very simplistic and he is wrong to believe and suggest that two teams are similar just because they play counter attacking football.

I don't think the media is showing any double standards here (they do most of the time but not here).

its a back handed dig at us though inferring we play the same boring football that was prominent under his leadership. The media aren't calling us boring because the simple fact is we're not. We were, under Mourinho, often tiring to watch though. He can't seem to see the difference and just thinks because we're winning with less possession the media should be slaughtering us as they did with him. If Conte was playing boring football i'm sure they would, Mou had no need to mention us to further his 'the media hate me' agenda.

Which is a dig at the press and pundits, specifically NOT a dig at us!  FFS, people!

Point is why is he talking about this now? Was he asked about it? Fine the press isn't fair to him but does he have to keep complaining after every game he wins? He can't just keep his head down and work.

I love the guy and hated when he was sacked in December. But he is quickly losing my respect. Just comes across as a whiner nowadays.

I don't think anyone will disagree that Mourinho acts like a prick (he did on both spells here aswell as everywhere else) and right now he's grumpier than ever. Some of things he says I even will say things like oh shut up FFS but I mostly ignore the stuff like above because that's just what he does. As usual people rise to the bate and (quite clearly on here) sometimes read far to much into what he's said.

Sometimes as a team you need to park the bus. If you go to Madrid and Barca and attack them like Arsenal would they will just pick you off and there attacking players would have so much space. Mourinho s first team could go to any stadium and get the result needed, that's why Barca hated playing Chelsea so much.

ain't that the truth - the only posters who keep this thread going are the ones who either hate/d him & can't let it go or, now hate him. The irony concerning the latter is particularly tiresome. Here's the thing - jose is jose - he hasn't changed much at all. But now that he's not at our club some of you that were, shall we say, a bit shy in coming forward to take issue with his statements when he was our manager & we we're doing well, feel that it is necessary to comment on his on-going pronouncements whereas most of us who stuck by him for a long period but subsequently & long ago accepted that what was done was done & have moved on. The incessant & continual whinging concerning what a past manager says in his new role is really truly only a reflection on those posters themselves. Are these posters so obtuse not to recognise this? Wasting their time having a whinge about an ex-manager who in the main was great for our club but who has not been here now since December 2015. Smarten up – have a whinge about the economic suicide of Brexit or the dangerous waters of all things Trump but for f**k sakes get a grip – it’s football….only football.

I don't really see how having a moan about Mourinho is any different than moaning about other rival managers. If Arsene comes out and says something controversial in the press we all talk about it on the forum. Much the same as if a rival player says something we offer our view on the matter. The main problem here seems to be people getting too touchy about people criticising the almighty Mourinho yet no one bats an eye lid about other managers in the league. If someone doesn't like something being said it is their right to have a good old moan on a forum with people that may share similar views (quite obvious people do). If you and others don't like it just stay clear from the Mourinho thread, it really isn't that difficult. If its the potentially bright future we may have from Brexit or the fantastic deals we may be able to strike with Mr. Trump then move on over to the politics thread to discuss said topics. I mean come on, for f**k sakes get a grip - it's a forum thread....only a forum thread.

You seem to be forgetting the posters who defend him and clearly still have a soft spot for him!!

I would say the criticism of Mourinho to other managers is completely different. There's certain people in this thread who literally jump on every word, article or footstep Mourinho makes just to criticiss him.

Sometimes when you read through the article in question it makes no reference to Chelsea but people on this forum like to think everything has to be about Chelsea.

It's not defending Mourinho but just not jumping on every single word like it has to be against Chelsea.

Are there posters who defend Mourinho to the same degree he gets slagged off?

I would say those who still choose to defend him are outweighed by those that slag him off and that's exactly the way it should be!

A lot of posters are more likely just tired of responding to the same old people saying the same things every week.

I started supporting United back in the 80's and I don't know how many years I've been watching us play regularly. I don't miss many games... we were spoiled with the success SAF brought and a season without at least one trophy felt like Ragnarök was upon us. Then we had this joke David "we should aim to be as good as City" Moyes. He took over an aging side and did nothing to strengthen and obviously lacked the leadership and mentality to be at a big club. Enter Louis "We go again/sex masochism" Van Gaal... with the most boring football since... I honestly lack comparison. There's no joy in seeing your team having 70% possession when you create 0,5 chances in average. Can't say he did much to strengthen the team neither.

Moyes wasn't the name to attract the big names and LVG's handling of players didn't seem to be the best approach either.

Mourinho seems to be better at that. He seems to be able at not playing and getting rid of dead wood at a good price (bar Rooney). He has made us play a much more enjoyable and attractive football. The downside is our conversion rate which is appalling. If that was just 10% better, we would be breathing down your necks...

Our squad have long needed a big cleansing and lots of positions in need of strengthening and to achieve that in one summer was one step to huge for any manager.

I'm happy we've got him and I have no doubt we'll be fighting for the title next year.

I hated him when he was your manager, but never questioned his ability as a manager or tactician.

Imagine where you would be without all those offside goals
