August 17, 20169 yr Nobody is saying they shouldnt try, I an sure the club is trying but its not that many options out there. We already have Zouma and Christensen on our books so we dont need a young player with potential. There just arent that many options out there and we are reportedly going hard free one of them As much as I love andreas, I will count him in when I actually see him in the squad. We literally are without a single LB and yet we loaned out AKE (who had a good loan spell at watford). I can no longer count "loan" players as potential squad players, the way the club is run. Also, obviously there wont be many options. We are talking about world class defenders. You have to pay over the top for the select few who are in the category or have the potential to get in that category. Its only once a while that there would be a player like benatia who you can get on loan. Stop-gap option but would have been a great option. I simply feel we are about 5 years in the past with our transfer dealings. 40 is the new 20. Sterling for 50, stones for 50, mane for 30. These are some ridiculous numbers but thats how the market is these days. Case in point, our defensive options for this season are: JT(0), Iva (9mil pounds), GC (7mil pounds), Azpi (7mil pounds), Zouma (12mil pounds), Aina (0), Tomori(0), Miazga (3mil pounds). Thats 8 players for a total of 38mil pounds. We need some severe investments in the defence.City's CB last night cost 80mil pounds. And while I dont want to throw money just for the sake of it (just like Conte said), but we do need investment which we unduly waste on attacking players like Pedro, salah, cuadrado - players who barely add anything of value to the squad. August 17, 20169 yr Mustafi iant much of an upgrade, not at all bothered we arent after him probably, but this "not much of an upgrade" allow us to accommodate Christensen and Zouma easier next year. if we sign Koulibaly, we would have too many young CBs with potential, thus increasing the risk of selling one of them (probably Christensen). not to mention KK would probably cost twice as Mustafi would besides, for JT, Cahill, and a severely injured Zouma, i doubt he is "not much of an upgrade" Edited August 17, 20169 yr by magichat
August 17, 20169 yr Meh, Id rather not spend 20+million om someone who will never be more then a backup and that we will have trouble getting off our books after this season. Arsenal can have him
August 17, 20169 yr f**k sake torino! Lets hope maksimovic decides he wants to go to napoli. http://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/eng/west-ham-make-surprise-inquiry-for-maksimovic-chelsea-are-ambivalent/ Rumours I read said napoli want him and kk as their CB pairing next season as their other CB will leave at the end of the current season. So whether they sign the guy from Turin or not I doubt they will see us kk.
August 17, 20169 yr Obviously no one cares, but if you liked Eric Bailly and Kalidou Koulibaly is too expensive, I would really recommend going in for Wilfried Kanon. He is every bit as talented as Bailly and together with Aurier they form a potential world class back four for Cote d'Ivoire. He's basically kicked out Lamine Kone from the starting line up for Cote d'Ivoire and we're supposedly interested in Kone... Best thing is he can probably be bought for peanuts (Transfermarkt has him at 1 mln EUR). One year ago Bailly was worth just that.

August 17, 20169 yr Don't trust De Laurentiis one inch...if they get Maksimovic what's to stop him putting two fingers up to us and making Koulibay wait till next season? I would buy Maksimovic first and loan him to Napoli on a loan to buy option ONCE they've sold us KK
August 17, 20169 yr According to Il Messaggero in Italy,Chelsea have made an official €50m bid for Koulibaly; an offer described as ‘mind-boggling’ by the newspaper. http://sport.ilmessaggero.it/calciomercato/napoli_il_chelsea_offre_50_milioni_di_euro_per_koulibaly_conte_non_parlo_di_lui-1913435.html they rejected our 50m offer last week but hey twice the charm maybe?

That's enough for me, let's sign him. I don't know why we wouldn't go for someone like Howedes or Subotic (i know he failed a medical but so did Remy) who are old enough not to inhibit our youngsters, but are seasoned veterans of Europe for high level teams.

Yeah and look at Remy's injury record since coming here.....
August 17, 20169 yr Yeah and look at Remy's injury record since coming here..... True, I wouldn't argue that he's been injury prone, but that wasn't why he failed the Liverpool medical, it was a heart defect.
August 17, 20169 yr Umtiti was the one I wanted, honestly... KK was good last year in the Serie A. Prior to that he was regarded as a talent but not quite living up. TBD whether he can perform in the EPL I suppose. Me too quite surprised we didn't to for him. Him and Zouma could the future for France aswell.
August 17, 20169 yr Telegraph Football ?@TeleFootball 11m11 minutes ago #CFC set to make club record £60m bid for Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly - @JBurtTelegraph not sure how credible jason burt is, but yeah, thats a loooot of money
August 17, 20169 yr too much money tbh. considering we bought both kante and michy for not much over that, it's a bit of a joke. not even the best cb in the world right now would go for that, and if he did it would be outrageous.
August 17, 20169 yr It is stupid on our part considering he has only had one good season, Gimenez also has a €65m release clause which makes more sense.
August 17, 20169 yr we can afford to spend £60 on him and still have money to sign a LB so why not? Koulibaly and Zouma could have 10 years of dominance with us, both have huge potential, Napoli would be very foolish to reject that
August 17, 20169 yr With Christensen coming back next season, and Zouma returning from injury, do we need a 60m CB? At that price he will have to start every game, so where does that leave one of those 2?

August 17, 20169 yr A Chelsea fan I know, who is Italian, is saying that their family in Italy are bemused as to why we are going to pay this much for him...
August 17, 20169 yr Koulibaly is an immense CB tbf. Only Chiellini was better than him in possession (and Bonucci was better as an overall defender) and he's an absolute beast physically -- haven't really seen him get bullied off the ball. Very technical for a defender Price perhaps might be a bit too steep though but 50m would be a fair price edit: When I say Chiellini was better in possession I don't only mean in Serie A. Very few players across the world leagues can match him for that Edited August 17, 20169 yr by MANoWAR
