January 31, 20197 yr I still don't think his position is that much a problem, not that much difference to where he played in france. Its more to do with the fact that this is the first time in his career he's playing in a team that has 60-70% possesion nearly every game and he's not use to that. Every team he has played for played on the counter. Edited January 31, 20197 yr by jack_super_class

I will never understand how people got it in their heads he was a holding mid. As said above he has never played there, and we would lose best best ability which is his ability to run and run and run.
February 2, 20197 yr Superb today, that pass for Higuain’s opener was one Fabregas would have been proud of!
February 2, 20197 yr He's really settled into this RCM role perfectly, glad Sarri has seen what he is capable of and stuck with it.

It's frustrating, it's also frustrating when you have pundits saying he should be playing as a holding midfielder and he's playing out of position which just goes to show how clueless some of these so called football experts work. The fact is, Kante has been one of our best players this season. He's still adapting to the new system like the majority of our squad are. This whole narrative about supposedly playing him out of position just seems like a stick to beat Sarri with. I think Kante has 4 goals and 4 assists so far this season, if he hits similar numbers in the 2nd half of the season he would have contributed to around 16 goals and that's playing in a slightly dysfunctional team with a blunt attack. Now imagine how much better he would be in a functional, attacking team where he and the players have adapted to Sarri's style of play....
February 2, 20197 yr Kante is our biggest asset wherever he plays. Most important player we have bar none. Truly world class.
February 2, 20197 yr Goals and assists Pedro has contributed 8 goals this season Willian 9 Barkley 7 Kovacic 2 RLC 6 Morata 7 Kante 8 Kante has been our 3rd most productive player in terms of contributing goals this season yet people believe and have made up this narrative that Kante is playing out of position and should be a holding midfielder?
February 2, 20197 yr People will continue to say he is being played out of position to try and prove themselves right

Sarri deserves a lot of credit for that. Everybody, including me has never saw Kante as an attacking midfielder, I mean come on this time last year you’d never think he’d be scoring goals and creating chances. Sarri saw it when nobody else did. Fair play to him, I didn’t think Kante had it in him.

February 3, 20197 yr In the terms of absolute impact on games, week in week out over a period of years, I reckon Kante is the best midfield player we’ve had. Lampard is a greater Chelsea player due to his part in those great teams between 04-12, and was more damaging at his best. Essien also probably had a higher peak level due to his physical prowess. But in terms of dominating 90 minutes, every week, throughout the span of three-four years (counting his Leicester days), you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who’s done it better than Kante. He’s the best runner ever to grace the football pitch, and has very underrated technical skills.
February 3, 20197 yr Id say Kante is our best player. 9 out of 10, he will have a great game. Consistency is king.

Funny I read this and knew someone would bring up Eden ahead of kante before I caught up on this thread. I agree with you just. Time and again I can trust Kante to give his all for the shirt. Consistancy. To be fair Eden is consistant too, consistant at talking about his love for Real Madrid and his dream move. When he wants to play few are better, but sometimes he just does not want it. Chelsea are his fall back option if Real dont make a move. The consolation prize. For Kante we are the prize and he plays like it game after game.
