Kissing the badge 3 months ago, pushes for a move to a hated rival 3 months later, one day before the transfer window closes during a transfer ban. For me, this is worse than the Courtois situation. Courtois never had the same kind of connection with the fans and club like Luiz had. Luiz has dumped all over that though. People say he doesn't deserve boo's when he returns to the Bridge, but I wouldn't complain one bit if that is how the fans react to this. How would you expect fans to react to a player pulling a stunt like this? It's unreasonable to expect fans to not be anything but pissed at Luiz for this. So if they boo him on his return, then they should be allowed to do that without criticism.

Exactly. It reeks of a panic sale, i.e. £8M is better than getting nothing and keeping a potentially disruptive presence at the club. 

Why would we choose to sell to a direct rival? Why has he not been linked with any other club? It just doesn't stack up...

Imagine if we pulled out of the deal right at the last second just to troll Arsenal.

Whatever happens I don’t care much tbh. He’s not going to improve Arsenal that much.

Yep, fully agree with all that. 

The only thing that annoys me abit is Arsenal are going to benefit from his long range passing - He got the ball to Pedro almost perfect every time, imagine what he can do with the likes of Auba, Pepe, Lacazette.

But forcing Luiz to stay when he adamantly wants to leave could have been a disaster in itself. He's clearly had impact in the dressing-room and have his own little clique of players so he could really have disrupted the squad if the club decided to make an example out of him. It's the correct decision as far as i'm concerned.

Whatever the story behind it is, I wish Luiz well. He provided some great memories for me and was part of the greatest moment in this clubs history. He isn’t getting any younger and has to think of his career. 

Conte was onto something in that second season.

Me thinks Luiz tries to exerts a little too much influence at times.

There’s been a vocal leader in the team and then there’s being a vocally disruptive presence.

Word was Luiz openly questioned Conte’s team selection and tactics following the away match to Roma in the Champions League a couple of years back and then he was “injured” the whole season.

I just wonder if he spoke out of turn to his former teammate, now manager? 

So has he actually gone ?

But but it’s all speculation no one can say anything because we have no inside information  it could well have been amicably planned  him and frank could be best if mates.

He got turfed out of first team training because his toenail hurt and we charged arsenal 8 mil because we had planned all along to sell our happy amicable defender who quite rightly put in a transfer request when discussing game time with his mate frank, to a rival team desperate for a defender that we could have taken to the cleaners on the last day at a third of his value...don’t speculate mate what’s the matter with you, didn’t you see him kiss the badge? 

Sounds stupid doesn’t it? I agree with you as the Spanish say he is an El wonker, it was pretty decent of us to let him go I would have said the reserve route too but I assume frank just wanted all the bad energy away from the club, he would have still met up with his mates and got in their ears.

Can't disagree with anything you've said. If Luiz  really wanted a move, its beyond me why we haven't said yes but you have 3 weeks to get yourself a club abroad. As it is we have given Arsenal just what they needed, a player capable of playing well in the centre of a three. £8 million is a pittance to receive on deadline day when the market moves in favour of the seller.

Did the board inform you when exactly David Luiz asked for a transfer? Do you know for a fact he forced the issue? And how do you know the fee is £8 million, might there not be add-ons? How would letting him rot in the reserves help anybody? FFS Scott, you''re smarter than this hysterical BS based on no factual knowledge whatsoever.

There are lots of things I will miss about Luiz but defending isn’t  one of them.

Focus in the fact that other than wages nett  he hasn’t cost a £1 in transfer fees and selling a player who quite possibly has been told that he didn’t feature in the managers plans or at least as a starter was never going to be well received by the player.

The average age of our squad has dropped like a stone.This season is all about promoting academy players, change and long term planning and the major part of that has to be all about moving players who are likely to block youngsters progress add to that Saris style of play isn’t how Frank seems is going to set us up and then it’s essay to see why he is on his way.

I won’t boo him, I never boo at football he has moved on and so must we.

People rave about the JT/Carvalho pairing but the best I have seen for us was JT/Gallas.

I think lack of leadership within the ranks is a big part of the problem. Ten years ago, if JT was out, there was Lamps, then there were Ballack, Cech, Cole, Drogba, etc. There were so many big characters with leadership abilities in that team, even with the managerial merry-go-round the team remained competitive and tough to beat year after year. Losing someone like Luiz, even under difficult circumstances, wouldn't have been that big a blow.

Nowadays we have a bunch of kids we hope will become the future stars of the club and a group of experienced players who have little connection to the club. Azpilicueta and possibly Rudiger may have some of that fire, but they are no match to the leaders we had back in the golden years.

agree to disagree - Ricci was miles above Gallas & then you compare the sides they went to after leaving Chelsea. One went to le arse while the other went to Sunny Spain to run w/ Real Madrid.

I've lost the like button so I will agree in text. Gallas was JT's best partner. He was excellent. I loved watching him chase defenders down. He was the quickest CD I can remember. He could catch Henry and that took some doing.
