I can certainly see where you're coming from but that's exactly the kind of thinking that resulted in Arsenal going for 14 years now without winning the PL, never winning the CL and currently playing in the second rate European cup competition. I don't know about their board, but if you think their fans are smiling I suggest you take a look at Arsenal Fan TV, it's downright depressing watch and who can blame them.

We're one step away from turning into an Arsenal ourselves. Before you know it, we'll be mentioning new stadium costs every time we miss out on a quality player, keep moaning about manc clubs "buying" titles and take fake pride in finishing 4th while losing our best players to more ambitious clubs.

I have zero concerns about spending big, but for me it has to be for a player that offers value. I am not convinced that a 29yr old Sanchez does at the money being discussed. 25-35 mill + 200k per week I could justify. No transfer fee plus 300-350k per week could also be argued. But not a combination of higher wages and a transfer fee

That depends on what you consider 'value'. If we're talking financial side, like resale value, then probably not, he's already 29. But when it comes to winning things, he definitely represents value, because he's a top tier player. How many world class players are there in this current Chelsea side? Hazard, Courtois. Fabregas is a world class passer, but his lack of athleticism and defensive flaws downgrade his chances of being in the same group. That's about it. Willian, Azpi, Morata, Kante etc are very good players and some may yet turn into world class footballers but they aren't there yet. Then there's a big group of decent to solid players who, when in top form, can produce some quality performances, but they don't have the natural ability to ever hope to break into a top tier echelon of football.

Players like Sanchez represent value in a sense that they're difference makers, they possess the kind of an outstanding talent that could turn a loss into a draw or a draw into a win. He's exceptional in the same sense that Hazard is exceptional. When Hazard is not on the pitch or he's off his game like vs Leicester, we look hopeless. There was literally no one you can turn to who you'd expect to be the match winner, even with a man advantage. That's when you desperately need someone like Sanchez, or Hazard, or Messi, or Ronaldo etc. You need individual brilliance to bail you out when things are not going your way. And that's value in my eyes. Because it helps you win games. And trophies. And winning trophies raises the profile and reputation of the club. And so on and so forth.

Well said..

Sanchez's time at Arsenal
July 2014 - joins Arsenal for £35m from Barcelona on a four-year deal, despite interest from Liverpool and Juventus
May 2015 - finishes the season as Arsenal's top scorer with 25 goals, including a goal in the FA Cup final win over Aston Villa
May 2016 - finishes season with 17 goals, despite missing over a month with a hamstring injury, but the Gunners fail to win a trophy
May 2017 - top scores for Arsenal again, with 30, as they win the FA Cup but fail to qualify for the Champions League
August 2017 - agrees a £55m move to Manchester City, but Arsenal cancel the deal when they fail to sign Thomas Lemar to replace him

January 2018 - after the forward scores eight goals in the first half of the season, City again consider signing him with six months left on his deal

AND HE IS NOT THE MAIN STRIKER!!!

He will easily score 20 goals plus every season if he is with us and more than 10 assists..

I see that as value...Moreover it may influence Hazard staying long term...

Well if just care about money and not football barkley is great value..Bought at 15m and sell at 25 to 30 later...Agreed...!!

If he does indeed go to Utd it would then make Henrikh Mkhitaryan available. He feels like one of those players that Jose can't get the best out of and just wants to ship him elsewhere. I think he would be a quality buy. Getting Utd to sell to use however would be the challenge but we have no problem selling to them.

Though he maybe apart of the Sanchez deal. If Arsenal sell Sanchez and get Mkhitaryan, Malcom (I am unsure of but looks quite decent) and Aubameyang. That's a pretty good trade off in my opinion. If they tie down Ozil and replace Wenger then with a strong manager then they will have a very good front line.

At least they are trying if true, Kudos - if we get him, oh god. Sanchez and Hazard is something of dreams!

Maybe they've read the Shedend and seen the absolute disgust of the fans

This is such a no brainer..imagine hazard and Sanchez playing together. Also we wont have to be so reliant on Hazard to make something happen all the time. This would boost our chances in the champions league too. I dont understand what's going on..then when the team does bad the manager will get the blame and get sacked, the board should sack themselves.

Basically, its a done deal to utd, chelsea board pretending we are in for him so they can say, well we did try

I did think this at first. Why offer now? Why not the last week or so.

If anything it's a bit of transfer excitement which has been lacking. Imagine if we did hijack it, how beautiful it would be..

There just arent that many realistic options for us right now. This is probably the best chance we have to upgrade our sqaud, the guy wouldnt even have to move, he could just come straight here. Proven in the EPL, available, already living in London. What are we waiting for exactly?

Just waiting for the sky sports banner now. "United agree Sanchez deal"

This isn't a transfer I can see us being involved in. £30m per year for a player with no resale value. The club hasn't operated like that for long time. The only transfer that is comparable in a financial sense would be shevchenko.

I would absolutely love us to get him though!
