September 27, 20187 yr I'll have to well and truly concede here, as much as I defended Morata and I had faith he would become good. I was always happy with the singing even at the price, I thought he was an excellent player before we signed him I just can't see him making it anymore. I know it's still September but the signs are all there, he can't lead the line, his mentality is far too weak, he can't finish, his build-up play has been atrocious this season and that's something I've always credited him for. @RIP Mourinho @coco I truly concede fellas, you were right

September 27, 20187 yr At least last game he was going into space for the ball and caused some problems, he missed but he's going in chances so hopefully he will score next time.
September 27, 20187 yr Now we have a Torres on our hands. Sell him ASAP while he still has some value, before everybody realises how useless he is.

If he was to improve his game we would have seen some improvement but we haven't, he looks lost, he looks like he'll never be good enough and perhaps there was a good reason why he wasn't starting games at other clubs and doesn't have that many career goals. It was a gamble and sadly it's not paying off, I still don't think Lukaku would have been a better alternative though but he would at least score more goals.

If we were able to get a team to take Bakayoko (albeit on loan), then we can certainly get a team to buy Morata for a good price

Only a matter of time until you join in on the Willian agenda in all seriousness though this isn’t something I can be happy about. As Chelsea fans we all wanted to see our record signing do well. Shame.

We all remember the 'Torres Taliban' And we all remember Torres winning The Shed End player of the season calculated by the match ratings thread circa 2012. Good times...

September 28, 20187 yr Yeah, I'll have to admit as well I thought he would kick on this season. Need to sell before he loses anymore value. Icardi would be my choice.
September 28, 20187 yr This is his 'style of play' according to Wikipedia: 'Good in the air and at holding up the ball, with clinical finishing ability, quick feet and excellent movement, in his youth Morata drew comparisons to Real Madrid and Spain's Fernando Morientes due to his playing style.[86] During his first season at Juventus, he stood out for his pace, energy and work-rate on the pitch, while his technique, opportunism and positional sense saw him score several crucial goals.[87][88][89][90] A versatile and well-rounded forward, Morata is capable of playing as a main striker or linking up play between the lines, and can even play out wide on the wing. He is also an accurate penalty taker.[91][92] ' Someone give me a red pen so I can circle the mistakes and remove incongruous words like a teacher marking a piece of sh*t homework.
October 4, 20187 yr Scored the winner, so deserves some praise for that. Needs to stop overthinking things when chances come his way. That first half chance, no idea why he’s trying to lift it over the keeper with the outside of his boot, keep it low, and aim for a corner and as long as it’s on target there’s a good chance it’ll go in. Needs to just get back to basics in front of goal because he’s doing a lot of things right, his movement is good because a lot of chances are falling his way. I would start him against Southampton to see if he can build some momentum.
October 4, 20187 yr There was an odd moment after he missed that sitter one-on-one. Morata's eyes appeared to go steely, and a frown seemed to appear. After this, he fought harder for every ball and tried to make the most of everything we created (read: f**k all). He threw himself around and stalked after goalscoring chances like a spurned lover. Considering the nature of his goal (the ball suddenly appeared in the ten yards between him and the goal - he stabbed at it instinctively and it went in), I hope he can regain his confidence. Most of his overall play is very good - he deserves a run of goalscoring form - I would love to see a look on his face which isn't sheer abjection. More often than not he was in the right place at the right time, and he usually made the correct decision. I want him to do well, he has the talent to do well, he deserves to do well.

He could stand to be a little pissed off. Mice seen a lot of comments about how miserable he looked after that goal. I saw the opposite. I saw relief. I saw a guy who looked like he was just told he was cancer free. There is plenty of time left for unbridled joy. This was getting that freight train off his back.
October 5, 20187 yr I posted this in the game thread but this thread is probably more appropriate so sorry for repeating myself but the sad thing about the whole Morata situation is not only does he not trust himself, but the players don't either, I was only able to see the highlights, but from what I saw, there were two instances where a Chelsea player could have laid it off to Morata, but instead took the shot themselves. Willian in the 11 min could have easily played it through to Morata who could have at least a decent shot on target, but instead cut it onto his left foot and shanked the shot, and then in the 34 min when RLC made a great move on the defender and had Morata in the box for what could have been an easy tap in but instead took another touch and allowed the CB to knock it away for a corner. If the players can't trust him either, then theres no chance for Morata to get back to the form he was when he first started last year. I think his issue is 100% mental and confidence, nothing physical. Hopefully the goal he scored today will give him the confidence he needs going forward, but I also thought that with the first goal he scored this year and it took him this long to get his second. Im rooting for him big time but if its just not meant to be its just not meant to be.

There is plenty of time left for unbridled joy. This was getting that freight train off his back. I agree regarding the goal celebration. In the post-match analysis, Owen and Hoddle were speculating that he was unhappy at the club and maybe he (or his family) hadn't settled in the UK. All because he didn't smile (which he rarely does, he's not the most expressive of players) or run off to do a stupid dance for the TV cameras. What I saw is a man expressing his genuine relief and gratitude with the player who assisted the goal. Regarding the thing about him benefitting from being a little pissed off, I don't think that's necessarily a good thing with Morata. We saw in the middle of last season that he has a tendency to show his frustration by whining to referees and getting himself booked/sent-off for silly fouls and dissent. The red mist never really helped his football in the same way it could (sometimes) help Costa.
October 5, 20187 yr I also thought last season after the goals dried up and the injury that he wanted to leave. Think this season he is wanting to succeed again though wonder about his finishing. I have seen it before with strikers that can score goals where they have no thinking time yet cannot score when they have time to think about it. I would like to see some of those crosses Azpi used to deliver tried again from time to time as his headed goals were sublime.

I’m just trying to take another look at it. At this point, he’s either been pissed off at the referee or frustrated with himself. This was a case with a clear cut enemy on the other side. Maybe if he can take some of that anger and direct it at goal instead of towards the official or inward, it could have been a benefit. this is a picture of a man that has definitely been miserable, but shows utter relief. And good for Willian here too.
October 5, 20187 yr I hope he gets a run out against Southampton it would be great if he could score in consecutive matches and then see what effect that has on him.
October 5, 20187 yr According to the Spanish sports newspaper As, it was the saddest celebration that Morata has ever done, and apparently a journalist asked Sarri about it in the presser after the game, and his response was that if Morata wanted to cry after every goal he scored, he was hoping to see Morata crying very often. https://as.com/futbol/2018/10/05/uefa/1538720054_925037.html
