Perhaps a slight exageration yet not by much. He is gone unless the sedentary pace of Serie A can help him. I think the for Fofana won't last and also worry that Chilwell is going the way of James. Sadly, you can't rely on any of James, Fofana or Chilwell. If they were all fit, you'd probably think that was three quarters of our best back four right there ... and this sort of underlines the problem faced by our current manager ! Injuries are absolutely crippling us.

This is what's mostly annoying about James and Chilwell, they're out injured, then they need a few games to get ready again so they're playing catchup and not at their best, then as soon as they hit some form they get injured again. A continual cycle with them two, it's so bad I've completely given up on them. I'm putting my eggs in one basket for Gusto to become a top player, and I think we need that LB equivalent for Chilwell, Cucu needs to be replaced ASAP.
December 10, 20232 yr So if it’s his hammy that’s probably March - April before we see him again at this point have the surgery and get him fit for next season
December 10, 20232 yr If it is hamstring, from the most uneducated point of view, surely they must consider surgery to prevent the recurrence. Just wonder what different path he may have been on if he had considered this a year ago instead of the World Cup push, which is totally understandable. Speedy recovery and hopefully not too serious. Doesn’t sound good though given his history.
December 10, 20232 yr Just rule him out for rest of the season, make sure he gets plenty of time to address his injury problems and be a mainstay in first team next season.
December 10, 20232 yr He's had two very good seasons for us during Tuchel's time here. Since then he's been in and out with injuries. Just not reliable and it's such a damn shame as he's phenomenal on his day.

It's hard to accept but it is, what it is. He's one of those ones that will never reach the heights he is meant to as a result of injuries. A shame really.

Didn't we say the exact same thing last April? Give him the rest of the season + summer to address his injuries? Got injured matchday 1 the following season.

December 11, 20232 yr I would sell him to whoever will buy him tbh people saying give him the season off. Do you know how much this guy is paid !! His £ per game played is a joke. It’s costing a fortune and for what ? Nothing whoever made him captain wants his head testing same goes for Chilwell
December 11, 20232 yr It's a club that's had its identity torn apart the past year. Hard to really put that much blame on Poch for trying to retain some identity by giving our club product the captaincy. James has just been disappointing.

The captaincy has been made pointless now anyway. He gave it to Colwill the other day. Good player but in footballing experience terms a novice.
December 11, 20232 yr Realistically it is not looking good for Reece. He seems to be in an eternal cycle of injuries. Maybe he will have more luck in a different league but he just cannot seem to stay fit. I think we need start planning for a future without him, and consider who will be captain next season. I would like to see us bring in a player with experience and leadership who could take on this role. Shame we didn't prioritize Declan Rice over other midfield choices in the summer. He would have been ideal.

Perhaps Reece should become "club" captain and we give the "on field" captaincy to someone else who is more reliable and actually has some demonstrable man management and leadership skills ? Don't know who that would be apart from Thiago Silva mind you 🙂
December 11, 20232 yr we should have sold him to Real Madrid and cashing in....now we are stuck with an injury prone player who barely play half the game in a season while making 250k p/week

Beyond 39 year old Thiago Silva in the last year of his contract we really have no suitable candidate for an on-field captain.
December 11, 20232 yr I'd be questioning the medical team more than Reece's hamstrings, a lot are getting injured and seem to be out longer than ever! Bring back Eva!

If not and this is how things are with Reece he needs to take a new deal on just a basic 40k a week and then pay as you play to top it up to more. That or sell him. Same with Chilwell. We have to find players like Gallagher and Disasi in terms of how reliable they are to stay fit, and get shot of those who are being paid to barely ever play.

I think both can be true. I would certainly question the medical team, but Reece and Chilwell have consistently had these injury cycles now for several seasons. Their problems predate the current medical team. Unfortunately, with each recurrence it is less likely that this is something that could be resolved with a change of medical staff.

It's a shame Trev has been frozen out as I reckon he could have made a decent fist of it, and possibly in the DM role (and we could have sent Ugochukwu to Strasbourg, or not signed him at all)

December 11, 20232 yr Really hate saying this but I think we need to consider moving on. Since returning from injury he hasn't been the same, which is most likely due to the fact that he was still getting back up to speed, but that seems to be the recurring cycle. Get injured, disappear for a while, come back a bit shaky, and get injured again before you get up to speed. He has also picked up two suspensions already this season (one overlapping with him being injured), which honestly is not acceptable for a player who already misses most of the season. Could be frustration pilling up at his situation, and maybe a move would do him good before it does the club good. As far as the club is concerned, that's the third season in a row where a manager plans a season thinking that he has one of the best right backs in the world at his disposal, only for those plans to get derailed by a long term injury and have the manager scrap for alternatives. I really hope the latest injury isn't too serious, but if it is I think the club needs to have that conversation in the summer.

I've always thought that he was "injured" as opposed to injured ... convenient face saver all round 🙂 Just found it weird that the actual nature of the injury was very vague ... as are any updates ... he's been out such a long time for a supposedly minor injury !
