Mason Mount

It's the areas of the pitch he does it in too dkw. Only Kante on his game covers as much space and can inject that same tempo IMO.

He just brings so much to the team in attack, I honestly think he's currently the player we will miss the most if he doesn't play. The fact we can say that about an academy graduate is brilliant.

I thought last season Mount struggled when turning and holding the ball in the oppositions half, but this season he has improved so much in that aspect. The ball is almost glued to his feet at times. This is what Havertz needs to work on. In the Bundesliga he looked comfortable on the ball, maybe it is just a matter of time (I'm hoping so) but this is desperately what Havertz has to do.

I hope Havertz does, it could lead to playing them both behind the attack. I wouldn't mind seeing a sort of 4-1-2-3 or 4-1-4-1 if you like, with them ahead of Kante playing behind a striker and a wide 2. Very similar to how we played under jose with makalele holding, Lampard and Cole behind Drogba with Robben and Duff wide. This would be changed to have someone like Essendon playing sort of between Makalele and Lampard.

Spot on! That's the main thing he's improved on when comparing last season's Mount to this season's. And it's made such a difference!

Who's that Essendon? He sounds like a player

Ha ha, what a weird auto correct. Essendon are an Aussie Rules team apparently.  God only knows why my phone auto corrected Essien to that.

We played 4141 under Lamp with mount and Havertz in front of them. It worked.

The problem lies on who do we want to get the best out of

Best player on the team again yesterday and the heartbeat of most that we do well. All action, loads of energy, drives the game forward - if only we could clone him.

Brilliant little player - leading by example.

Would of been a great goal if he scored when he did that great one two with Ziyech ran past Fred and then cut inside Mctominay.

Could have been goal of the month, notice he looked up for Giroud and in that split moment lost control.

Such a shame it might have been a cracking goal.

Does anyone think he could move deeper in the 343 and play next to a Kante or Kovacic/Jorginho. Like Conte did with Fabregas, for the easier games he would sometimes drop Matic and put Fabregas next to Kante. He's playing well where he is but i think he's better deeper instead of having his back to goal most of the game and trying to dribble past players etc. Where Frank had him playing, in a 3 man midfield, box to box i think is his overall best position.

So would be like this for example

     Hudson Odoi  Kante   Mount   Chilwell

                      Pulisic     Werner

                           Abraham

I mentioned he could play the lampard role like the Mourinho set up of makalele, Cole or Essien and Lamparf midfields. So Kante holding, Kova and Mount ahead of him in a 2 of Kante holding, Kova ahead of him and Mount ahead of Kova.

So either

          KANTE

KOVA        MOUNT

or

           KANTE

    KOVA

                MOUNT

I could see him playing a deeper role next o Kovacic or Kante. He has great work rate, able to pick out a ball, and able to run through the midfield. The fact we have bunch of attacking players couldn't get game time will push Tuchel to try something different next season, and playing Mount deeper is certainly an option. For now, the less change the better, he's the first name on the team sheet.

He would be a good third midfielder in a 433 allowing us to play a front 3 with more pace and Mase could thread through balls and get forward into the box arriving late to finish moves off. Furthermore with 2 more defensive mids and his pressing we could look pretty solid.

Definitely. He's got the workrate to be able to play there, he's decent enough in the tackle and he's one of the first ones to normally to start closing the opposition.

He's probably best suited to replacing Kovacic though and I suppose the question is, would you want to drop him at the moment?

Not yet i wouldn't but if we continue to lack goals and creating chances i would then yes.

He's taken another step now under Tuchel.

Rapidly developing into one of the top players in the league. Fantastic again today.

This might seem like I am being a bit harsh, but I thought we saw both sides of masons game tonight against Liverpool

Amazing engine, seemed to be everywhere, fabulous finish. Cant fault for that side....

...but then i thought he was also incredibly wasteful at times. And I don't mean that he always lost the ball or gave it away, but that he doesn't see opportunities to play people in, holds the ball slightly too long, final ball slightly off/behind/in front.

There was one opportunity, at 1v0 up, that we broke forward with mason on the ball, fairly central, and bearing down on the Liverpool goal. Werner made a fantastic run, pulled off into space, that begged for a little slide rule through ball, to put him through 1 on 1. It wasn't a very hard pass, and it was clear, right in front of mason.  Instead, he chose to hold the ball slightly too long, then played it wide left to Chillwell. That is one example, of something he does far too often.  He really needs to improve his vision, awareness of whats ahead and not take too long on the ball.

Again, sounds harsh, as he just won us the game, but it could have been more had he made better decisions.

FYI  - Mason is my fav player at the moment. Love the guy, and is consistently our best player. But he can be better!

He's young still very much learning the game.Like all young players the one thing that is consistent is inconsistency. He is though going to be a very good player in a couple of years.

Getting better and better imo, loved that.

I noticed in the first half we didn't actually start troubling Liverpool until we got him on the ball. He ran at Tiago and Firminho with full confidence and caused them problems all night. So glad he got the goal, well deserved.

It has to be said now, he's a quality talent, even Twitter is acknowledging it now.

He’s got the perfect character for the clubs climate like Didier, Frank etc had when the owners throwing all kinds of big money players their way to compete with, elite mentality and undroppable.
