Don't mention Vertonghen in a such positive thread. One of the c**tiest players from the Prem.

Giroud just got one more year with us. He knows his role. He is a backup striker. Tammy is the main striker and I think Werner will play from the wings and can support Tammy. If Tammy fires blanks Timo can take that spot.

We have so much versatility up front we will actually have 2 good strikers for the first time in a long time and 4 good wingers or players that can play wing 2 of which can play number 10 plus mason and RLC our front is sorted for some timers come if they fulfil their potential. 
 

If we can do a sneaky one for vertonghen and sign Chilwell we have a serious challenging squad, young and pacy that should only get better.

Werner plays from the left, doesn't he? I would assume that if we sign him, it won't be direct competition for the main striking position. We'd probably see something like:

 

Werner    Abraham    Ziyec

 

With Pulisic rotating in both positions.

It looks like Willian will leave. Not sure about Pedro. So the wide positions are likely to be up for grabs.

According to The Athletic podcast special they done on this transfer that’s not the figure at all, it will go up in increments over the 5 years and peak at 170k-ish which is in line with our other top young players.

You are correct? I read it in a haze having just woken up and only really read the wage and though he missed the K!

The podcast also said it is pretty much a done deal and they haven’t accepted the deal to raise other bids. Just finalising paperwork now.

Odd opinion but have at it. You can’t have an exclusively young back line I think everyone understands this. 
 

He played for Tottenham that bothers you? So a good player on a free, just cast him aside if he played for a club you don’t like? Ashley Cole came from arsenal, didn’t hear anyone moan when we bought Torres from Liverpool when we thought he was going to be a world beater, that’s not how football works, how many players have we sold to rivals, that’s even worse but it’s business.

A couple of years ago i'd see your point but not now. From what I've seen with my own eyes and from comments by Spurs fans he's turned to sh*t and is completely out of his depth at this level now (similar to what happened with Ivanovic at the very end), there was a game not long before the league's suspension where he was hauled off for his good. His experience value won't last long if Broja starts ripping him a new one in training.

I just hope that we finally sign a top class striker who can really score goals. Our record at signing strikers is shocking. Only really Drogba, Anelka and Costa that have been good. The rest have largely have unimpressive.

Remy was good for backup and for how much we spent on him. Eto'o for a season was good also. Hat trick Vs Utd, Scored opener vs Spurs, & Arsenal and the winner vs Liverpool.

Im pretty sure we are buying Werner to play striker. Thats why we are still getting linked to Havertz, Sancho, Coutinho, Benrahma etc.

yeah i also dont see werner being pushed to the wing to accomodate tammy, its more likely they will have to compete for the spot

Yeah they’re ok but the issue I have is that we signed a lot of stop gaps for 1-2 seasons. Far better off spending on a top class striker who will last through the years.

In my opinion, Eto’o was really the only stopgap signing. Everyone else - Torres, Costa, Morata - were signed to be leading the line long-term. It just didn’t work out as planned, namely with Torres and Morata.

Werner's natural position is on that left side. I heard often in comments about him that he's a bit soft? Tammy can win duels and hold the ball and he's taller, if we don't sign Sancho I can see Lampard getting the most of the squad by having Werner to the left and Tammy in the middle as the striker, after all Giroud is staying so that he is the one that is the backup for Tammy, and thus not Tammy for Werner.

Yeah to be fair to the club, they have tried to sign long term replacements. They just haven’t worked out. Torres and Morata are prime examples.

Don’t think we will see sancho now, we have 2 young promising wingers who are on big wages, that frank will want to bring through, we have bought Ziyech and now Werner can play out wide, mason can also play out wide, just wouldn’t make sense to spend all that money in a position that’s well covered. 
 

It could be argued that Werner and Ziyech can Move central and play number 10 as can CP  but we have mason, RLC, and Barkley already competing for that position. 
 

Reality is we have a wealth in midfield and attack that all suit franks football, both pace and creativity doesn’t make sense to spend big on those areas when our back is so u underwhelming, a top LB and CB would make this squad title challengers, look what VVD did for Liverpool, would love a signing like that.

Looking through the striker list of who has been signed since Roman rocked up ... can't really fault the board for effort, although many have not worked out ...

Mutu, Crespo, Drogba, Kezman, Shevchenko, Pizarro, Anelka, Sturridge, Torres, Lukaku, Ba, Eto'o, Remy, Pato, Costa, Batshuayi, Giroud, Morata, Higuain ...

It’s an awful list though isn’t it. We just can’t seem to sign strikers. You would have to say that only Drogba, Anelka and Costa have been a true success. 
 

I would give a nod to Crespo (clearly quality but just couldn’t settle), Eto’o and Giroud.

For Demba Ba we got our money's worth as well I think.

 

2m net transfer loss and scored some memorable goals, particularly against PSG and Liverpool.

Sturridge was decent as well.
