New Center Backs?

Featured Replies

Koulibaly must be our target.

We need a CB who is strong, leader, experienced, who will upgrade our back line and won't make stupid mistakes.

We need to sign a world class CB, doesn't matter what the price is. Without one, we can forget about CL, PL, and every cup games, seriously.

We don't have a CB that you can really trust, we need someone to stick with Zouma as partnership and get Tomori as backup.

But the main CB must be a WORLD CLASS. I think we must go after Koulibaly.

New coach!!!

Pep and Klopp fully rebuilt their defenses. Nobody ever said that they just needed better coaches and that they should have kept Karius/Mingolet/Hart/Caballero, Sakho/Mangala, Clichy/Moreno/Kolarov and so on...

Man City outspent everybody in the previous seasons and Klopp sold 40 players since he has been in Liverpool...

This coaching argument makes little to no sense, specially when a simple cross is too much to deal with for Christensen, that's basic stuff.

How's this guy still on here?

Surprised he’s not bored doing this yet. I think he’s walking the tightrope though, I’m not sure he’s posted anything that gives the Mods room to ban him. (Unfortunately posting sh*te doesn’t count) I wouldn’t worry though, they all slip up at some point, it’s just a matter of time.

I think you can't put Christensen and Kepa in the same team. Every set piece they look like scared kids and make the whole team nervous. I don't know about Rüdiger either, sometimes he does really stupid things.

I was listening to the Straight Out of Cobham podcast and either Dom Fifield or Liam Twomey (I can't remember which one) said they went to the Norwich game with a specific brief to listen to the Chelsea players to see if any were vocal after Frank called them out before the game. Apparently by far and away the only one shouting and organising was Kepa, and bar a few claps from Azpi no one was loudly communicating.

I find this very worrying and it explains why we're so bad at the back. It's crazy that none of our defenders can do it. I read the other day about how vocal Van Dijk was a few games ago right at the end of the game while they were winning comfortably. And this is after they've won the title. We desperately need a defenders that can talk to each other and organise the team on the pitch.

How are we not in for Koulibaly? Apparently City are interested and he would cost £75, but City aren't willing to pay that. He would be like a Van Dijk esque signing and transform our central defence. Along with a signing like Tagliafico and Onana, our defence would be infinitely improved.

How do you know we're not?

75 million on a 29 year old defender, no chance.

We would have heard by now. These things don't stay quiet, especially in Italy with Sky Italia and their journos.

He would still strengthen our defence massively for a few years. We've spent more on multiple players who have done nothing to strengthen the team and barely contributed. Bakayoko and Drinkwater are two examples.

Oh absolutely, what is rumoured (or not) in whatever form of media is the absolute and only truth

Im sure they are, because when has spending a sh*t ton of money on defence ever been a problem for them before? Especially with FFP being a joke as well

We clearly need leaders all over the pitch, and especially in defence. To that end, I'd like to see Ampadu given a chance next season ...

I'd love to see Ampadu back in the squad for next season, get Tomori more involved as well. Rudiger is a liability these days, I always have anxiety when I see him anywhere near the ball!.

Im torn whether to give Ampadu another year on loan (where he actually gets game time) or just bring him back right away. Ideally I want him to have another season somewhere with plenty of game time and in the meantime we sign a Giminez/Skriniar/Koulibaly and bring back Ampadu next season so he can slot in next to our new CB.

Christensen and Zouma need to go, Rudiger we can keep until we sign Havertz and then he can go as well.

We definitely need to sell Christensen and Rudiger, both have under 2 years left on their contracts, at this point we can't give them any more time to improve but we can sell them for decent sums.

Zouma has 3 years left on his contract, and more likely to accept a utility role in the squad.

Koulibaly will be a risky buy at the mooted price for any team outside Italy. At £60m maybe, but anything over and you are taking a gamble.

I’d rather pick up both Demiral from Juve & Bastoni from Inter for £75m.

Anyone know anything about Partey, the Woolwich have been after him for a while now. Would he fit in with us? would love to get him from under their stuck up noses ( if he is any good)
