He has been good but he is still part of the problem. If this so called “project” is going    anywhere he would be part of the culling along with Azpi, Koulibaly, Jorginho, Kante & Aubameyang. Experience is overrated in todays game, you need players that will run through walls just look at the youthful Arsenal side.

You are joking.

If we got rid of Silva last summer and put a young defender in his place, we’d be way worse off in the table. Every single game Silva has been head & shoulders above everybody. The last time I remember anyone being so consistent and that much better than everybody else, it was Eden Hazard.

People on here are Dalling for Levi Colwill. He can't get in ahead of Lewis Dunk, let alone Thiago Silva.

That was the case at the start but since he got his shot against Arsenal away he's started every game since.

I love Silva but prime Hazard has us in the title race last season and in the top four this one.

Apologies, i wasn't aware of recent developments. Here's hoping he continues to improve........along with Maatsen perhaps

Do you know what, i was actually going to post today that looking at our team, Drogba, Zola and Fabregas could get in this team. Obviously forgetting their peak as that is a no brainer and I'm not talking about them at their age now, that's a bit too disrespectful.

No, i mean at the point that they left because the game had gone past them a bit and the intensity was too much, the pace of the team a bit too quick and slick. Not with this lot. The Fabregas that left us could play in this side and pull the strings. So could the others, and the last of Lampard as well. Sad really that the 36 year old Lampard that left us in 2014, could play in this midfield now and keep out a number of these players.

So he played in the defence that let in 4 to Arsenal on the weekend? Even our sh*t show of a side only let in 1 to them.

With Messi finally winning the World Cup with Argentina, and the recent sad loss of Pele, there has been a lot of discussion about the "Greatest Player Ever".

But watching him today, and the level of his performances since he joined us, in the fastest league in the world, and at 38 years of age,  I can't help but wonder is Thiago Silva the "Greatest Defender Ever"? Better than Beckenbauer, Moore, Maldini, Desailly, Baresi?

I think it could well be the case. His reading of the game, his athletic ability, his bravery. He lacks for nothing in terms of physical assets and leadership. And he is producing these consistent performances with relatively poor players, (by comparison), alongside him and with a poor DM in front of him.

Just awesome, absolutely staggering, when you weigh it all up

Would you have him over prime Terry?

Where does 38 yr old Silva rank over prime JT?

Really tough question. No doubt Silva is a rolls royce - we are very lucky to have him

Imagine them both together I'm their prime, what a pairing that would have been.

The Premier leagues best ever centre back. Just awesome.

That's a bold statement given that he hasn't won the PL title yet but surely it deserves let's say, a 2 year contract extension?

It's a big part of my point Jim. Silva is way past his prime and yet he is still regularly producing performances like we saw today. It is truly remarkable when you take account of the pace and intensity of the EPL.

38 year old Silva >>>>> 38 year old Terry. I think it's a shame Silva spent most of his careeer in the French league. If he'd played for a Real/Barca most people would have him in the GOAT conversation.

He actually had quite a slow start to his career which involved illness and even briefly retiring.

I wonder if that's helped play a role in keeping him going so long, almost like a reverse Rooney (who exploded so quickly but was done by 28).

We're not winning the title in the next 2 years and I'm not sure we can really offer him what he deserves on the pitch

I love Silva but doubt he would want to stay past this summer he doesn't want to be finishing midtable in his final years and given his wife isn't a very big fan of the manager we can assume Silva isn't either.

I expect he'll leave in the summer but he's been fantastic for us and still shines like a man in his prime years.

PL medals are not always the benchmark of a great player. Didn't Utd cb Johnny Evans get a pl medal and so did Robert Huth? Could be wrong but didn't Huth get one with us and one with Leicester?

Anyway, Silva has many a time carried us, I often wonder what would it have been like had we got him 10 years ago.

Despite our current problems he seems to really love Chelsea. His passion is there for all to see.

And yes, if he keeps playing like he does I'd keep him for as long as he wants to stay.

I do believe though that as it stands, players like John Terry and Nemanja Vidic are still ahead but I can agree T.Silva is in anyone's top 3.

I expect him to leave in the summer. Been rumoured for a while he wanted to stay here for the season of the world cup then go back and finish his career in Brazil, something his family are said to want to.

I would much rather he decide to retire here and join the coaching/board room staff. He is one of a kind.

It's very rare to see a player with this kind of longevity and without any physical decline. When he arrived, I expected 20 games at best for 1 or 2 seasons, but this is his third season now and he's still playing like a 30 year old at their physical peak.

I would give anything to keep him for another year. I'm not sure he will be that interested in a rebuild at this point in his career, but I would love it if he signed another 1 year deal. Nobody is better than him and I think it would be an amazing achievement to reach 100 league appearances with us.

please let this be true

I don't doubt it is. He certainly deserves a better send off than we have given him this season.

Will be on what his family wants though. Has been stated before he wanted to continue I'm Europe until the world cup was done and the end his career in Brazil.
