Was a pen by the letter of the rules but that’s harsh and the red that’s not right

I can kind of understand the hand ball decision. It's one of those that could go either way, but like you say, the sending off is ridiculous.

2 penalties for us and Rennes down to 10 but with the bookings we have accumulated so far I reckon we'll be down to 10 by the end of the night

Ridiculous decision by the referee, compounded by the yellow/red

 

Timo takes a penalty like the boss.

Surely the refs still have a position to use judgement.
