We didn't struggle.  Game should have been 5 to 1.  Bad officiating kept Southampton in it.

Chilly made an unfortunate mistake that allowed the penalty.  Dumb mistake but they did not break down the defense.

We were also fielding players who havne't been playing much, it was no surprise that when the main men came on (Mount, Jorginho) the game changed so drastically

Feel almost ashamed admitting I expected Werner’s late goal to be struck off for some BS technicality. Very exciting match to win because Soton always turn up against us.

Really surprised in a good way for RLC and Barkley. Thought RLC was finished after the horrible injury in that friendly a few years ago. He finally looks to be getting back to form. I do not see Barkley starting but he could be a valuable squad player like today. The midfield looked paper thin a few weeks ago but maybe we are alright.

Mount & Werner behind Lukaku for me going forward

Agreed. Then after that Havertz and CHO can battle it out for first reserve with Pulisic and Ziyech struggling to get a look in.

We have conceded 3 goals in the league this season, two of them penalties. I don't know where you are getting the idea from that it's not working. The struggle today came from a very dodgy VAR call a rare mistake defensively from Chilwell. Overall, we were good, especially when you consider the fact that the first 11 featured so many squad players.

I have no doubt that our tactic is getting figured out after watching us these last 3 matches, we were going toe to toe there before VAR gave them the red card and we had a 1 goal advantage and still conceded, even if our 3rd goal from the first half was counted a 2:1 lead wouldn't have been enough. I'm happy to see CHO in the advanced position and think that RLC and Chalobah played well but I have some doubts about us being that good of a team right now. We deserved the win no doubt about that, but we're not looking like a team that should challenge Man City and Liverpool for the title yet.

Please dont forget that Barkley played the great cross before the winning goal.

Ya that was a great one from  Barkley. Exactly the 1 thing missing from RLC. RLC was strong on the ball and all... but I was always hoping he would release the ball a bit earlier.

He has been decent at times. But brilliant i don’t think so.

Exactly.

CHO is the lowest rated Chelsea player today. As an attacker/winger, he never threatened the opposition.

Hard to see him get much minutes in the attacking front when all attackers/wingers are healthy and available.

Even before Werner scored he was my man of the match, unlucky to have his header DQ, and some top saves prevented a good hatrick, never stopped running and trying, a big difference to lukaku who was basically anonymous...

Good to have come through and won that. Always going to be shaky after back to back losses. Let’s hope that was just a setback and we can put it behind us. Seems TT and the team, including several surprise actors that we never thought would be in contention, are still finding their way. Had we not won today it wouldn’t have necessarily meant as much as some of you think. I’m staying positive.

Important win this. Now it is intl football time and to be honest it is the first time I am happy about a NT moment, Chelsea needed a break and some time away from the spotlights. There is a lot of pressure on Tuchel and the guys to deliver the league title this season and I can feel them a bit mentally tired after the bad results v City & Juventus. Tuchel has raised the bar so high after the UCL KO rounds performances that everybody now expects Chelsea to play like that every week and if they don't the media will be all over it.

CHO would have had an assist if we weren’t punished for a foul Dave made 20 years ago playing for his school team.

I don't think it works like that.  There will be a lot of rotation between those 6 based on matchup.

Mount offers the best passing.  Timo offers speed to stretch the defense.  Havertz seems to have the best control in traffic.  Pulisic offers a direct player who will take his man one on one.  Ziyech is probably the best finisher of the 6.  CHO gives you versatility since he can also play wingback.

CHO is young and needs to see the pitch to develop.

A victory that showed character today.

Players on the fringes playing their part as well.

I also liked the fact we scored late goals in a tight game (something Liverpool & Man City manage to do)

Turning 1 point into 3 is what can put you in a title race.

What technique from Chilwell, he’s been watching Alonso obviously.

With Liverpool & City playing each other a win today was vital.

All in all a good day and a good performance for Chelsea.

Top of the league…I was under the impression our season was over a few days ago.

The Daily Manc fanzine published their obligatory “Chelsea are sinking” article by Matt Barlow. He just changes the manager’s name each year.

Thought Ruben was excellent today, so positive and so good at retaining possession with his physicality, along with being so silky on the ball, can see him playing a big role for us this season. I thought CHO looked good as well despite a few things not coming off for him, definitely much better as one of the front 3. Lukaku wasnt given many chances but did his job, and Timo was MOTM, should have had 2 goals but ran his arse off and came up with the goods. Definitely should cement his starting place, we look so much better with his dynamism despite him not being a perfect player.
