October 2, 20214 yr Good win in the end under difficult conditions (heavy rain) and Mike Dean in the VAR room. RLC did a good game in central midfield, alot of room opened up everytime he got past his marker, wich he did quite often. I just wish he made a bit better decisions in the final third. Werner with a very good game, hopefully we will see alot more of Mount-Lukaku-Werner in the next matches.
October 2, 20214 yr Just seen the Werner disallowed goal again on motd. Still absolutely livid, what a disgrace that was
October 2, 20214 yr Thought we played a good team, Tuchel picked the right players and they showed up. It should have been 2:0 game over after 40 something minutes, granted it looked like the correct decision, how far do you want to go back to disallow a goal? There has to be a limitation on that, you could always find something wrong rewinding the footage for that long. We were a bit slow in the second half, they got a lucky break when Chiwell slipped up. Their red card was justified, dangerous lunge from behind could have easily broke something. Tuchel made the brave subs and we pushed on for the win. The likes of RLC, Werner, Barkley aren't the most technical, but they bought the energy and directness we badly missed recently, and having Mount back will be a huge plus going forward. Lukaku and CHO let us down, Lukaku will start next game, but chances are fast running out for CHO. So much for the Tucel getting sacked after this game rubbish, if we sack a manager after 3 losses, may as well hire Roman's boy and any poster here to be the next manager.
October 2, 20214 yr That was am infuriating game, shesh. We should be talking about a thrashing here, but inept application of VAR and our appalling finishing stopped it being so. Saints did nothing offensively all game, Mendy could have pulled out a deck chair, they were rubbish and scored because Chilwell had a brainfart. I thought assistant refs were supposed to give the advantage to the attacking side and leave it for VAR on tight calls? So how come the same lino that did that for Trevs rightly allowed goal then pulls Lukaku up when he was marginally ahead? That should be on VAR to check, poor from him. Has been covered already how worng VAR were on Timos first "goal". Not a foul, too far back on the call, all true. Of course CHO and Chilwell are clean through with the keeper and waste glorious chances, no blame on the ref there. Timo clean through and hits it at the keeper in second half, should have had a hat trick. One is on him, one on poor VAR call. Lukaku did better as a playmaker. Lucky chilwell just managed to squeeze that in as that is a sitter and a 100mill striker should not miss chances like that. Poor game from him imo. Should have been at least 7, 3 missed sitters and the wrongly disallowed goal. We must finish better. Thankfully we were not robbed in the end. Nice to see RLC drive forward again the look really fit, final ball was too often wrong though. Well done Barkley and Mount. Would say Trev, Timo, RLC and Chilwell (minus brainfart) stepped up, CHO less so but robbed of an assist.

Honestly that red card was 50-50 call, it was more of a judgment call. I am more interested with werner disallowed goal. How far do you want to go back? Like I said before, if we cross for 20 times and then Werner score, should the goal be disallowed? How about 10? How about 5? What factor do you consider? Soton had many2 chances to reset. I honestly thought the check was for Lukaku climbing on defender, let's just say that was a foul then it is fine, you can disallow Werner goal. Edited October 3, 20214 yr by Bob stark
October 3, 20214 yr That no goal was just a VAR special reserved for Chelsea, and Werner in particular. The logic was find something potentially wrong to cancel that goal out, as far as it took. The Southampton players had no complain about the goal, even they were shocked if was choked off. Whoever was running the VAR should be called out, and explain that decision. Werner has been denied 16 goals by VAR, that must be some record. Granted at least half were his own doings, the one today and the last year's offside against Liverpool has to take the some beating for the best VAR No goal award. To his credit, Werner kept going, however I was waiting for the VAR to intervene, for a potential offside or pushing a defender out of the way, or just being Werner.

Well Brentford aren't going to be a pushover for our first game back and I doubt they have too many players being selected for international teams...if we are not ready we could face an embarrassing loss like Arsenal and certainly a tough game like Liverpool experienced.
October 3, 20214 yr A decent game of football, I thought we were energetic and I liked the directness of the mid-field with RLC and Kovacic driving forward; and fair play to CHO who I have been critical of many times for a decent game. The penalty aside Chillwell offers a more rounded LWB than Alonso IMO. Full praise to Werner who never gives up trying and in the end was well rewarded...shame he just can't cross a ball like Mount or James, to give Lukaku more opportunities a few times during the game he had opportunities to get the ball in early but failed to do so after getting into good positions. Nevertheless a good team performance all round, but we did look a bit dodgy at times once Southampton changed tactics 2nd half...The red card took the momentum away from Southampton and gave us the edge for the remaining 15 mins or so which we took full advantage of. Of all the players today Dave looked out of sorts and I think he should take a back seat for a bit if TT intends playing him as a RWB and not as one of the 3 CB's. Onwards and upwards with a tough game ahead again Brentford after the break.
October 3, 20214 yr non of the pundits and 'experts' (ESPN, Sherwood, Owen, ...) had the balls to question Mike Dean's decision to go back to the future and deny us a legitimate goal. but what a surprise they were all talking about the red card. not that they dissagre with the decision but it was about the slow motion of the replay and the still image that was briefly shown to Atkinson before the replay. VAR should have shown the replay only in real time according to them. twats. on MOTD they didn't even mention the f**king daylight robbery.

You can put your house on it that if that happened to Liverpool, Owen would be complaining about the ref.
October 3, 20214 yr Ross Barkley, never in doubt. Just as well I captained him for my Fantasy PL team. Did I f**k. To be fair to Tuchel he is now bringing in players that we all thought weren't up to it and getting the best out of them. Partly out of desperation but also a sign of a good manager. Happy for Chilwell to redeem himself with the goal. Thought it was a decent atmosphere for a game against a lower team in the pissing rain. Top of the league.

October 4, 20214 yr Chilwell improved as the game went on. I prefer him to a,on so most of the time. also thought cho did ok and again the minutes build confidence, but he didn’t have enough pace. RLC great direct running, but could pass earlier and defensive positioning not in same class to Jorginho. enjoyed the game
October 4, 20214 yr The one game I manage to get tickets at the front of the MHL. I have never been so wet in all my life, glad we came away with the win otherwise the journey home would have been extremely glum. So happy for Timo, I think we all hope he kicks on from here.
