Real Madrd (3) v Chelsea (1) (CL Q/F 2nd Leg) Tues 12th Apr 2022 20:00 GMT

Hard to take this one but at the same time you can switch off and take the positives from it; this team knows where they’re lacking. Behind the scenes stuff needs to be resolved ASAP as we need a plan in place for the summer to build and replace mistakes in previous windows. Tonight showed that our starting XI out there has heart, desire and will fight until the end; sadly, when the legs go and the bench players replace them, we find out who the real players that step up are (minus Jorgi). We have too many who maybe don’t have that quality to step up to a higher level.
onwards and upwards.

at least we can enjoy the football in Europe now without having a near heart attack for another year. I for one will be rooting for City and Liverpool. I hope this year KDB can pick up a European title he deserves; a warrior at the top of his game who I can now enjoy with a beer and my feet up.

goodnight.

He’s a humble guy so the media WON”T SAY A WORD about it… but tonight, was all on Kante, we’re out out because of this man, let’s not be ALL diplomatic and try and avoid this fact.

Not true.

It is also on a Pulisic miss

It is also on a Jorginho miss

It is also on a Kai miss

Yes - Kante 2 mistakes also f**ked us, but so did the rest above.

Then look at Lukaku and Mendy in the first leg.

Thought we were fantastic tonight proud of the boys. Sadly a disgraceful decision to rule out Alonso’s goal and a few mistakes ruined our chances.

Unlucky break what can you do but it was handball.

The week after the international break is what cost us, It was typical modern Chelsea. All of that effort and good football we played tonight, that is what we should be like 9 times out of 10, but it just doesn't happen. We are a team full of as much quality as anybody in Europe, but the difference is that we don't want it enough game after game. Tonight, we wanted it, every player put in 100%, even if a few of them made a mistake here and there. The effort, determination, it was all there, but last week against Real and Brentford, it wasn't, and that has now ultimately cost us a place in the semi-final of the Champions League.

Tuchel said he wants to turn us into a team nobody wants to play against, but he's got a way to go to reach that point. Against Southampton and tonight against Real Madrid, we were a team nobody wants to play against, but the week before, we were the Chelsea everybody wants to play against. We need to find a way to shift this mental block we have at the club and become the team nobody wants to play against all of the time.

Tbh…. I was closely watching him the entire game because I noticed something was WAY off, so watched him like a hawk. It’s not even about the big moments for me, it’s when Rudiger is having to make the interception of his entire life just for Kante not to cost us (Mendy & Rudiger wanted to kill him tonight). Poor concentration, misplaced passes left/right and centre, being dispossessed time and time again; his head wasn’t in the game. It’s not on Tuchel for me, as we’re lacking in options and Kante has obviously given him the all clear despite the fasting.

Way too much hindsight bias and blaming going on. Not very classy. “All on Kante” - really? Come on - we were always going to be up against it. Real Madrid away with a 1-3 deficit to overturn. Ok -  not the team it has been in the past but a lot better than last year, and their first goal was sublime.  Subs were poor, granted. But we needed fresh legs. no way we could have gone the full distance with same players. This match should be remembered for the positives, not the negatives (plenty of those to choose from this and every season) - a fantastic performance that just wasn’t quite enough on the night.

Totally agree. This was a 2 leg tie and the damage was really done in the first leg. I would say we only came as close as we did tonight because Lukaku wasn't playing.

Once we scored our 3rd goal tonight the game was always going to change as Madrid had to attack us at that point. We had to be perfect and we came up just a bit short. Brave effort and we certainly had the chances to put them out of sight but misses once again cost us.

That handball call was so ridiculous, but that is the state of the game and its rules at the moment.

We must absolutely get that FA Cup trophy, our guys really need it after all this troublesome season

First the players need to recover and regroup after tonight. Palace will be a tough opponent in the semi, and then we all know what to expect if we make the final.

World class players at the top of their game are a joy to watch. The movement, touch and finishing of Benzema is head and shoulders above anything we have had since Drogba in his prime. And if we can find a midfielder with the work-rate, vision and outrageous passing abilities of Modric we would be some team.

He’s so adorable, even an absolute disaster-class isn’t enough for us to criticise, I get it. As a collective we were so good tonight and it’s hard not to be proud of that given we were written off. But go watch the BT Sports ‘full’ replay and keep your eyes on Kante, it’s the heat of the moment now and we’ve all got a rush of blood. Go back and fixate yourself on that absolute disaster class of a performance. Love him though.

Madrid always have this luck in the CL, they are outplayed and win the tie with moments of brilliance from their senior citizens

I don't think they will do it this year. As good as Benzema and Modric are, they aren't Ronaldo at his peak, and without him, I think they will be taken apart by City or Liverpool. I will be seriously shocked if one of those teams fail to beat them. Liverpool will want revenge and City will be desperate to win it after missing out last season.

Think you can pretty much separate the game into the first 80 minutes (all time classic Chelsea performance) and the remaining 40 minutes (incredibly sloppy performance).

You have to question the mentality of the team when such a drop off can occur in a big game like tonight.

Well I can let go of the negative mindset now and express my gratitude to both team and TT, as well as our away fans, for a really magnificent effort. They are done the club and us fans proud.

I really dont want to blame anyone after that performance. Easy to look for what could have been done and point fingers but that was a huge effort. It was such a mountain to climb, losing the home leg against the 13 time winners with a multi time winning manager.

Yet they did not go there defeat. No they went there and gave everything in mind, body and soul to climb that mountain.

Gutted but proud of them and proud to be a Chelsea fan.

Thank you all.

Dont think many on here thought we were in with a chance today but having won away at the Bernebau we have lost the tie only on being outscored by 1 bleedin goal, aint the time to dig any players or TT out, just be PROUD cus there's only a handful of clubs in world football that could of done that !!

I wouldn't write off Athletico yet.

That’s the spirit, axman!

I'm done with European football for the year, what's left is the bald c**t and his band of mercenaries, the rat munchers, a team of ex-spuds, the most sh*thouse team that plays the sh*thousiest game of football and Real Madrid. Ugh

People blaming kante but fact is after tactical brilliance we showed complete tactical naivety. 10 mins to go 0-3 job done. We were still playing the same way and leaving gaps. Tuchel should have brought in 2 defensive players straight away and grinder out the last 10 minutes. That’s what cost us we threw it away by not responding to the changing situation.
