Think you can pretty much separate the game into the first 80 minutes (all time classic Chelsea performance) and the remaining 40 minutes (incredibly sloppy performance).

You have to question the mentality of the team when such a drop off can occur in a big game like tonight.

I wouldn't say it was a question of mentality. Our boys gave everything from the 1st minute against a pretty good side with world class players who can always produce magic out of nowhere and also started pushing for a result when things went south for them. It's pretty normal to get completely drained after all that.

I will give you the mentality thing on our subs though, they were atrocious. Pulisic, Ziyech, Saul... They just don't have it in them, not at this level anyway.

But in the end we got out because of that horrible 1st leg. I am really proud of the effort of the starters today.

I had geared myself up all day for the fact that it was unlikely we would go through, but after that I'm gutted.

We had enough chances to go through tonight, Pulisic made zero impact unfortunately and Ziyech didn't do too much.

All in all I'm super proud of my team, we nearly pulled off the impossible and played brilliantly.

What a performance from the boys!

Despite the tough loss our fans should keep their heads up high.

In Madrid our away fans were louder while the home crowd was literally stunned for most of the match and for most of the extra-time despite them having a lead.

Tuchel's mentality is CFC mentality, he made life hard for the historically best team in Europe, sure tonight they survived the blue lion but we'll be back.

I'm very proud of the lads for climbing the mountain today but just the final piece of negativity before I go back into the void.

I cannot believe we couldn't score after min 75 when the Real team ended the game with Lucas-Carvajal-Alaba-Marcelo as their backline. A backline of all sidebacks and all below 6 feet stopped us from going through.

Jeez

World class players at the top of their game are a joy to watch. The movement, touch and finishing of Benzema is head and shoulders above anything we have had since Drogba in his prime. And if we can find a midfielder with the work-rate, vision and outrageous passing abilities of Modric we would be some team.

Yes they were brilliant and ultimately the difference.

benzima 34, was crap last season in the CL , we’re we too quick to get rid of Giroud ? Could have seen him coming off the bench tonight

I don't think Real Madrid ever produced something out of nowhere. Modric and Vinicius created their goals, but the space those two were gifted beforehand came solely from very silly Chelsea mistakes.

It has to be a question of mentality if, after running away with the match 3-0 in the first 80 minutes, we contrive to lose the most important last 40 minutes 2-0. How could things go so 180 south in such a manner without huge mental weakness?

We had the chances Deino but we couldn't convert them. It is what it is. Not every chance you create will be finished. Overall we were very, very good tonight.

Yes. It certainly wasn't for lack of chances. Normally extra time is pretty uneventful as both sets of players tire. Rare to see so many genuine chances in ET

Well thats the last of any CL football I'll be watching all season.

I'm a Chelsea fan these days and not a football fan which is a shame as I'll miss some great matches. I just can't bear to watch other teams have  success when our house isn't in order.

Nope, even Benzema missed a sitter at the bridge.

Heroic effort by the players to drag the game into extra time. Their first goal though was a killer. We missed some good chances after that. They took their one chance.

Just wasn’t meant to be. The first leg was a catastrophe. Tuchel’s selections and Mendy’s brain freeze meant it needed to be a perfect night tonight. It needed Kante to be at his very best. Unfortunately, he wasn’t. But it would be too harsh to blame one player. We fought hard, played some good football, and probably deserved to go through. But too many mistakes over two legs, by players and manager, meant it was too much in the end. No shame in going out like that.

How was it a disgraceful decision?

I understand if you think it is a disgraceful rule,  but the decision was 100% correct

By the letter of the law it’s a handball, but it’s incredibly harsh, gonna have to tie players hands behind there backs in future.

Proud of the team. Kante cost us.

What cost us, was us playing like used wet wipes last week. There will always be individual errors, but with a determined and focused collective it's possible to make up for that. We won today despite mistakes, think what better position we could have been in after the home match.

I find it amazing after such a display anyone would want to dig out any of our players, especially a wonderful servant like Kante.

First leg sure go nuts, I did. Only Havertz had any credibility in that even Silva was poor. Not tonight though. We tried our best to fix our poor display from last week and we missed our because of an amazing ball by Modric.

Pretty proud to be a chelsea supporter after that performance but gutted. Never thought we were going to beat city anyway. Thought the team were so good for so long. Kante was the weak link but look how well some of the others played particularly RLC and James and Ruddier and Kova and even Werner.

Mixed emotions out in Madrid…played superbly for so long, but missed too many chances, just like last week and got punished for sloppy play - the winner in particular. But these guys are only human, fatigue was a factor. Thought the subs were the most disappointing aspect…none of them marched the efforts and quality of those who started.

I get we are all gutted but let's try and be proud even more so.

Was not a bunch of Muppets we were playing it was Real Madrid with Carlo as their boss and World class players like Modric, Tibo, Benzema and Alaba.

I get if we don't get past Palace then by all means rip in to whoever underperformed as we have no excuse not to make it to the final, against the top sides though sometimes their class is just too much. We made mistakes but by goodness were they good enough to punish them.

So if you think Kante didnt cost us today, would you be ok with him performing like that on a regular basis? Question goes to @just and @axman2526as well.

Great classic encounter with The European Champions vs the most successful club in European Football. Real got lucky tonight as we could have scored at least 2 more, and we should hold our heads high. It shows the standard we are at when you go to Real Madrid and disappointed we didn't score 5.

My only real gripe is we lost our 100% record against beating Real in European competitions.

Anyway, onwards to Wembley.
