Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea

I don't believe Sterling will be a success here unless he is given good service. He won't make stuff happen on his own he needs chances created for him and we don't have that from midfield.

If he ends up missing clear-cut chances like Werner the usual excuse of "no service" won't do him any good.

He actually can create by himself which is why we signed him but you can't expect him to produce crazy number without good service

Did well today. Faded but that's to be expected. Like how he drops deep and then takes on players. Looks likely to be most dangerous player we've had since Hazard and although I know he will frustrate with holding onto ball too long, or making wrong pass, I would rather that than have negative players who wont even take a man on.

Has quickly gone from a player I detested to one I'm glad is wearing Chelsea Blue!

Funny, but yes, a very Werner like performance, but for now without much criticism.

A very good Chelsea forward performance. No goals, no assists. Scores when offside, cannot when he is onside. Cannot unlock a packed defence. Timo has taught him well.

Sterling beat more players off the dribble today than Werner has in his career.

Obviously he didn't score or assist but I think Sterling showed today just how diabolically bad Werner, Pulisic and Ziyech are at creating space or making things happen.  He was bright and constantly taking the ball past players which is something we haven't seen in years.

Thought he had a good game, especially in the 1st half.

He is levels above Werner and more dangerous than anything we have at present IMO.

I think what we need is another Sterling type player to get more out him.

I disagree. Sterling today was better than 90% of Werner's games with us. He was much stronger on the ball than Werner, made a lot of intelligent runs, dribbled better than Werner ever has. Nothing really came off for him in the 2nd half, but the first was better than pretty much anything Werner has tried at Chelsea.

His strength in the ball surprised me a bit, he was battling with 2 players at times and kept possession, really had a good impact on our static attack and took the ball forward superbly at times.

In all honesty, when Sterling is in the team you can really see just how average mount and Havertz are. We need someone to help Sterling out badly, he can't carry this attack all season.

I hated thinking this but it was in my head for most of the game. We've fallen so far from the heights of Hazard that when we finally see a high level player in attack it looks like he's playing with the Dev team.

It's all well and good to see flashes of good bits from Havertz, Mount, Pulisic etc but we are up against teams with at least 2 world class players in their attack. This lot shouldn't be starting for a title challenger.

The elephant in the room ...

If we had signed Raphinha, I'm not sure Mount even makes the starting XI, and as someone who very much enjoys seeing homegrown players in the side and doing well,  I hate saying that ...

If we sign a proper forward I can see Havertz being sold quite quickly ...

Probably just had an off day today but it looks like he can't handle any physical duels. Makes playing him in the striker position utterly useless, also he's short. We crossed the ball into the box a few times with only him in it, what's the point?

A wide forward who can pick and choose where and when to roam around to find free space like he did last week is the perfect role for him.

His goals for Man City were flashed across the goal, not crossed. He had a generally poor game i thought and showed his definciencies by missing chances. But the weight of pass for his assist was brilliant.

The curse of Chelsea forwards. Would not surprise me if Sterling got less than 10 league goals.
